The best romantic comedies in and of themselves become timeless Bibles of life.
Woody Allen's Annie Hall didn't just speak to the 1970s single folk but also to any teenager in a future era going through heartbreak.

'Materialists' Review: Dakota Johnson Measures Value Of Love Between Chris Evans And Pedro Pascal in Celine Song's Sublime Romcomdram
From Grammy Nominated Hip Hop Artist To Indie Filmmaker With 'Paradise Records': The Rise Of Logic - Crew Call Podcast
Ditto for 2009's 500 Days of Summer: It may have been about millennials and for millennials, but carried themes about the pursuit of love that any fortysomething could relate to.
And, so, we arrive at Celine Song's Materialists which is a deconstruction of the singledom that's absolutely now, steeped in its social media marketability and posh wants, but at the end of the day it's the raw, shabby, sincere form of love which wins out. In turning the romcom on its head (though Jane Austen's Emma does come to mind), Dakota Johnson plays Lucy, a high-end matchmaker in NYC who contends with her clients lofty wants in a mate. Lucy, who knows everything there is about marketability in the game of courtship, falls for the ultimate unicorn in Pedro Pascal's ultimate rich dude, Harry. But then Lucy's ex, John (an amazing, no-holds-barred Chris Evans) reenters the picture. He doesn't have Harry's wallet, but, man, he knows what makes Lucy tick (beer and soda).
Before she was an Oscar nominated filmmaker, Song was a matchmaker ten years ago.
'I learned more about people in those six months, than in any other part of my life,' she tells us today on Crew Call.
Though she doesn't consider herself an expert on love, you can't deny her knowledge. Move over, Leo Buscaglia.
'Love is a completely mysterious thing that we don't have a solution for,' says Song about the difference between dating and finding the love of your life.
'Love is something that humbles us, that ask us to surrender, it's the one that asks us to be our purist, most simple self,' Song shares, 'When love is offered to you, all you can say is 'Deal'. You can say 'Yes, deal. I want this love in my life.'
Materialists opens this Friday.

Why Fans Think Lucy and Freddie From ‘Perfect Match' Are Dating

And so ends another season of Perfect Match, aka the most chaotic reality TV show on Netflix. This season was filled with drama (Louis Russell's surprise red carpet appearance with Huda Mustafa! Hannah Burns' mystery baby daddy! AD Smith and Ollie Sutherland's early reveal!) but it seems possible that AD and Ollie weren't the only two to get a happy ending. The latest theory: Fans think Lucy Syed and Freddie Powell are now an item. While season 3 winner Lucy ended the season with Daniel Perfetto and Freddie ended up with Madison Errichiello, it's already been revealed that (spoiler!) neither couple lasted. Lucy and Daniel split before they could even go on their all-expenses-paid vacation, and according to Freddie, he and Madison just couldn't make their long-distance relationship work. As Freddie said of Madison during a post-finale interview with Elite Daily, 'We carried on speaking afterwards, but we were very realistic about the fact that there was 4,000 miles between us. And gradually over time, it just became apparent that it was more of a friendship.' While Madison lives in Minneapolis, the Love Is Blind: UK alum is based in is much closer to where Lucy lives in London. But that's not why fans think they're dating. No, the reason has to do with a pair of Instagram posts. Earlier this week, Freddie shared a pic of himself in L.A. with the caption, 'No place I'd rather be.' A day later, Lucy posted a few snapshots with an identical based on her outfit, fans are convinced that she's the one casting a shadow in Freddie's picture. Seeing as they're both from the UK, it's unlikely that they just happened to bump into each other in L.A.—but that doesn't necessarily mean they're dating, of course. In fact, Lucy seemed to directly address the rumors during a recent interview, where she referred to herself and Freddie as 'friends' and nothing more. 'I hang out with Freddie now and we are just friends,' she said. 'He's like a brother figure…I don't feel any sexual spark with Freddie.' Fans will have to wait and see whether anything comes out of this ~friendship.~

Entertainment gossip and news from Newsweek's network of contributors It was announced that the Wayans Brothers would return to the beloved "Scary Movie" franchise to reboot the series with full direction. Keenan Ivory Wayans will return to produce, while Marlon Wayans and Sean Wayans will presumably help write and star in he newest chapter. More news: James Gunn Drops Major Hint at Margot Robbie Returning to DCU While not much is known about what the new film in the franchise will entail, two of the original stars of the franchise are also set to return. In a new report from Deadline, Anna Faris and Regina Hall will return to the new "Scary Movie," reprising their roles as Brenda and Cindy, respectively. 33. "Scary Movie" (2000). Box office: $157.0 million. 33. "Scary Movie" (2000). Box office: $157.0 million. Miramax More news: Paramount Confirms New 'TMNT' Live-Action Film is in Development Both shared a quote on their return, stating: "We can't wait to bring Brenda and Cindy back to life and be reunited with our great friends Keenen, Shawn and Marlon—three men we'd literally die for (in Brenda's case, again.)" Hall and Faris starred in the first four "Scary Movie" films, but only the first two were written and directed by the Wayans Bros. With the family creative group getting involved again, they are bringing back two of the most fan-favorite characters in the franchise. According to Deadline, the film is set to shoot in October and is slated for a June 12, 2026, release date. Considering Cindy and Brenda are returning, it would be believed that Sean's Ray Wilkins and Marlon's Shorty would also be making a return, though that has not yet been confirmed. The original two "Scary Movie" films were a massive hit with audiences, with the first film releasing in 2000 and pulling in $278 million worldwide on a budget of $19 million. The second chapter in the "Scary Movie" universe followed shortly after in 2001, bringing in $141 million on a $45 million budget. The entire franchise has gone on to earn over $897 million through five films, making its return not at all shocking. Despite the big return, the Wayans Brothers have not been involved in the creativity of the franchise since "Scary Movie 2." The original films parodied "Scream," "I Know What You Did Last Summer," "The Exorcist," "The Shining," and so much more. Given the current state of horror, expect there to be a lot of films that are made fun of, such as "The Conjuring" films, though this is just speculation. Either way, fans of the original two films will be happy to know that Brenda and Cindy are back. For more on movie news, head to Newsweek Movies.

File Photo by Mike Goulding/UPI | License Photo Aug. 15 (UPI) -- Sophie Turner is opening up about what it was like kissing her former Game of Thrones co-star Kit Harington in the upcoming gothic horror film The Dreadful, which Turner also produces. The actress, 29, and Harington, 38, played onscreen siblings Sansa Stark and Jon Snow on Game of Thrones and now portray lovers in The Dreadful. Turner discussed the film on Late Night with Seth Meyers Thursday. "I sent the script to Kit and he kind of sent me a message back going like, 'Yeah, I'd love to, but this is going to be really ... weird Soph,'" she told Meyers. "And I was like, 'What is he talking about?' And then I was reading it and I'm like kiss, kiss, sex, kiss, sex. And then I'm like, 'Oh, shoot, that's my brother.'" "But it's such a good script that he was like, 'We kind of have to do it.' So then we put it out our minds and then we get on set, and it's the first kissing scene, and we are both retching. Like, really, it is vile. It was the worst. Another really bad moment in my career," she added. Meyers asked Turner if the experience was worse than filming with live rats and cockroaches for her upcoming movie Trust. "Yeah," she responded. In The Dreadful, Turner portrays Anne, a woman living her mother-in-law amid the War of the Roses. Harrington plays a man from their past who complicates Anne's life, Deadline reports.
