Tourist guide shares new detail in Meghalaya honeymoon murder case: ‘Four men were walking ahead while…'
A tourist guide in Meghalaya has told the police that the missing honeymoon couple from Indore, Raja Raghuvanshi and his wife Sonam, were accompanied by three men on May 23, the day they disappeared from the Sohra area.
Raja's body was found days later in a deep gorge, while the search for Sonam is still ongoing.
According to a police official, the guide's statement has been recorded as part of the ongoing investigation.
Local guide Albert Pde said he saw the couple with three other men on the morning of May 23 as they climbed more than 3,000 steps from Nongriat to Mawlakhiat.
'The four men were walking ahead while the woman was behind. The four men were conversing in Hindi, but I could not understand what they were speaking as I know only Khasi and English,' Pde told PTI.
Pde added that he had met the couple a day earlier, on 22 May, and offered to take them down to Nongriat, but they had hired another guide named Bha Wansai instead.

He said they stayed the night at Shipara homestay and returned the next day without a guide. When Pde reached Mawlakhiat that day, the couple's rented scooter was no longer in the parking area.
The scooter was later found abandoned at Sohrarim, several kilometres away, with the keys still attached.
Sonam's brother, Govind, who is in Shillong to help with the search, has criticised the state government's efforts. 'We strongly believe Sonam is alive. They are searching for her like she is dead,' he told PTI, urging authorities to involve the CBI or other agencies.

Meanwhile, chief minister Conrad K Sangma said the government is doing everything possible. "No stone is being left unturned," he said.
Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem of East Khasi Hills district told PTI that rescue teams continue the search despite tough conditions. 'We are trying our best... ur boys are doing what they can without rest, using gadgets and trained dogs. The search will continue,' he said.
A special investigation team led by an SP and assisted by four DSPs is probing the case. Search teams, including the NDRF, SDRF, sniffer dogs, drones, and trained climbers, are involved in the ongoing search for Sonam.
Raja's decomposed body was discovered on June 2 near the Weisawdong waterfalls. Police said his gold ring and chain were missing, raising suspicions of foul play. The next day, a bloodstained machete was found near the area, followed by a raincoat similar to Sonam's, discovered in Mawkma village, located between Sohrarim and the gorge.

Earlier, a CCTV footage from a homestay showed Sonam wearing a raincoat similar to the one found earlier.
The Mawlakhiat parking lot lacks CCTV cameras and does not keep a record of parked vehicles.
A village elder told PTI that the area's infrastructure is poor, and electricity is unreliable. Locals have now decided to start keeping track of vehicle numbers and visitors' phone details.

Manipur tense after Meitei member's arrest; Local group declares 10-day shutdown
IMPHAL: Tensions escalated across the valley districts of Manipur following the arrest of Asem Kanan, a member of the Meitei group Arambai Tenggol, by the Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB), Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Guwahati, on Sunday. In a press release, CBI said: 'Kanan was arrested on Sunday at Imphal airport for his involvement in various criminal activities linked to the 2023 Manipur violence. His family has been informed of the arrest.' The statement also mentioned that CBI is investigating cases related to the Manipur violence as per the directive of the Supreme Court of India. 'Due to the prevailing law-and-order situation, the trial of these cases has been shifted from Manipur to Guwahati,' it said. CBI further confirmed that Kanan has been transported to Guwahati and will be produced before a competent court for police remand. According to police officials familiar with the matter, Kanan was arrested along with four other Arambai Tenggol members on Saturday from Imphal. However, the CBI's official statement confirmed only the arrest of Kanan. Meanwhile, violent protests erupted in Imphal city. Hundreds of demonstrators blocked major roads using burning tyres, wooden planks, and other debris. Security forces fired tear gas shells, mock bombs, and live rounds to disperse the crowds. Amid the chaos, a 13-year-old boy sustained serious injuries to his leg, reportedly from a tear gas shell explosion. He was evacuated to a nearby hospital. From Saturday evening to 5.30 pm Sunday, at least 11 people were reported injured in connection with the unrest, with the situation continuing to deteriorate in the evening. Security forces have been deployed at key locations across Imphal, including Palace Compound in Imphal East, and Keishampat Bridge, Moirangkhom, and Tiddim Road stretching up to Imphal airport in Imphal West. Arambai Tenggol on Saturday announced a 10-day statewide shutdown demanding the unconditional release of the arrested volunteers. Additionally, a women's group from Khurai in Imphal East issued a stern warning, demanding that 'all MLAs currently outside the state return to Imphal and form a new popular government by 6 pm on June 10.' The group declared that any MLA who fails to return by the deadline will not be allowed to re-enter the state. As of 5.30 pm Sunday, the situation remained highly volatile in the valley districts, with security on high alert and public anger mounting.

Delhi news: Woman found dead in Paharganj hotel, police arrest male companion
In a tragic incident, a woman was found dead in a hotel room in Paharganj area of Delhi on Sunday, while her male companion has been arrested by the police in connection with the case. The deceased has been identified as 29-year-old Sarika and the man as 31-year-old Sachin. According to Delhi Police, a PCR call was received at Nabi Karim police station, wherein a hotel staff said that a couple was staying in the hotel overnight. On Sunday morning, Sarika was found lying dead in the bathroom while Sachin was missing. Preliminary investigation suggest that the woman was allegedly strangulated using a drawstring, they said. The couple had checked in on Saturday at about 4 PM. They ordered food on Saturday evening, which was served in their room. The next morning, only Sachin was seen leaving the hotel premises and the woman was found dead, prompting the hotel to alert authorities. 'At 09:47 AM today, a PCR call was received at PS Nabi Karim, wherein the caller, a staff member of a Hotel in Paharganj, informed that a couple was staying in the hotel overnight. In the morning, Sarika (29) was found lying dead in the bathroom while Sachin (31) was missing,' said the Delhi Police. 'Preliminary findings suggest strangulation using a drawstring. The body has been taken into custody. A case under Section 103(1), BNS is being registered at PS Nabi Karim. Investigation has been taken up. The accused, Sachin, has been apprehended,' said the police added. Sarika's body has been sent for post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death. Further investigations are underway. A nine-year-old girl was found stuffed in a suitcase at a neighbour's house in northeast Delhi's Dayalpur area, triggering protests by family members and locals who alleged sexual assault and murder of the minor. Police and paramilitary personnel have been deployed in the area on Sunday to maintain law and order. According to news agency PTI, police sources said the perpetrator seems to have fled after stuffing her in a suitcase. Senior officials of the Delhi Police said all angles are being probed, including sexual assault. "We are awaiting the autopsy report to confirm the cause of death. Teams have been formed to nab the absconding accused. We are taking this matter with utmost seriousness," a police officer said. The child, a resident of Nehru Vihar, had gone to give ice to a relative living nearby around 7 pm, her family said. When she did not return home for a long time, her parents began searching for her. According to the victim's father, they approached several relatives and neighbours, but no one had seen her after her brief visit to one relative's house. "She had only gone to deliver some ice to our relatives. They said she stayed for five minutes and left. But she never came back. We looked everywhere. Finally, someone told us she was seen entering a house nearby. That's where we found her in a suitcase," he said. The girl's father alleged that when he reached the house, it was locked. Suspecting something was wrong, he broke the lock and entered the room. Inside, he found his daughter stuffed in a bloodstained suitcase. They rushed her to a local clinic, but the doctor asked them to take her to a hospital immediately. At Jag Pravesh Chandra Hospital in Shastri Park, doctors declared her brought dead, the father said.
