Three Brisbane bridges are getting a technicolour makeover

They have collaborated with Nike, Adidas, Tate Modern and major magazines in the US such as New York, for the cover of which they contributed a portrait of Barack Obama.
The Craig and Karl activations will appear on the three bridges from September 5 to 27. Bezzina said their work would also appear in a public art trail throughout the city.
Another production that will make use of the river will be Baleen Moondjan, a musical dance piece by Stephen Page inspired by a whale story from Page's grandmother on Minjerribah (Stradbroke Island).
'We are going to set up a barge in front of Queen's Wharf for the beautiful whalebone set that Jacob Nash has created,' Bezzina said.
In addition to the popular free fireworks display Riverfire and drone show Skylore, Bezzina said a new light show, Afterglow, would be set up in the City Botanic Gardens to replace Lightscape.
Lightscape posted strong attendances in 2023 and 2024 but was criticised for high ticket prices and for occupying the gardens for weeks after the Brisbane Festival had finished and limiting access.
' Lightscape will run only for the dates of the Brisbane Festival, and the ticket price is lower as well,' Bezzina said.
The privately owned Twelfth Night Theatre in Bowen Hills, a Brisbane venue given over to amateur theatre for several decades, will get a refresh for the festival to host acrobatic cabaret Gatsby at the Green Light, which enjoyed a sold-out run at the Sydney Opera House in 2023.
'Twelfth Night has done nothing of this scale for many, many years and the transformation is unfolding as we speak,' Bezzina said.
A hot-ticket show from overseas will be Gems by LA Dance Project, the modern dance company run by superstar choreographer and former husband of Natalie Portman, Benjamin Millepied.
Two shows will pay tribute to pop music icons. Amplified is a theatrical retelling of the life of Divinyls' Chrissy Amphlett, while Tina – A Tropical Love Story is First Nations drag performer Ben Graetz's memoir of growing up a Tina Turner fan in Darwin.
Performer Josh Hinton, whose family runs longstanding Paddington Indian restaurant Sultan's Kitchen, will celebrate his upbringing and cook his grandmother's famed chicken curry on the Cremorne stage in A Place in Sultan's Kitchen.
'At the end of the show the audience are invited to eat the curry,' Bezzina said.
Already announced stage highlights include the Australian musical The Lovers by Laura Murphy staged by Shake and Stir, and Queensland Theatre's world premiere Back to Bilo, about the Biloelan community's efforts to stop Sri Lankan refugees the Nadesalingam family being deported.
The program of free concerts Brisbane Serenades will return with events in Manly, Moorooka, New Farm and St Lucia. Disability-led performing arts event Undercover Arts Festival also returns, with nine different shows.

Bezzina, who takes over as CEO of Brisbane Powerhouse on October 20, said that after seven years as artistic director at Brisbane Festival it was time to pass on the baton.
'I'm quite devastated about leaving, but I also think it's important for change, a new artistic voice,' she said.
'I want to stay in my home city, and what a privileged opportunity it is to take on a role like the Brisbane Powerhouse.'
Brisbane Festival 2025 runs from September 5 to 27. Tickets and the full program are available at the website.

Anna Friel lost her entire wardrobe when she split from Darren Day

Anna Friel lost her entire wardrobe when she split from her former boyfriend Darren Day. The 49-year-old actress dated the entertainer back in the 1990s and she's now confessed she regrets leaving all of her clothes behind at his home when they broke up in 1997 - because she never got them back. When asked if she has any fashion regrets, Anna told The Sunday Times newspaper: "Only about the things I lost. I had the best 1990s capsule wardrobe and when I split up with my first boyfriend, Darren Day, I was so distraught, I grabbed the essentials and left my whole wardrobe there, including an incredible Afghan coat from the Kings Road [ in London]. "I remember years later calling to ask for my clothes back and he'd ditched them all." Anna went on to reveal she now prefers vintage clothes to buying new pieces and spends a lot of time hunting for bargains in second-hand shops. She added: "My great passion is vintage - the materials are superior and I love pieces with a story - so I hunt down vintage shops whenever I travel. "I've been shooting in Bristol recently and found a red 1980s jumpsuit. Palma, Mallorca, is a great place to shop for unique embroidery and leather shoes and bags." Anna also explained she's ditched heels for flats in recent years and her favourite shoes are a pair of Adidas trainers. She told the publication: "My favourites are a chunky pair of red Adidas Campus 00s that I have in navy too. "I love shoes and I'm a huge Terry de Havilland fan because they were the only heels I could walk in, but I prefer looking at them rather than wearing them now." In the interview, Anna also shared her top beauty tips revealing she uses a concealer and highlighter by RMS as well as Chanel's Lip and Cheek Balm in Number 1. Anna insisted she now wears less powder and prefers a dewy look. She also credited her 20-year-old daughter Gracie with introducing her to a fragrance brand called Moods and she is now a big fan of the company's roll-on perfume Frisky.

What to Watch TV Reviews: Outlander: Blood of My Blood, Necaxa, The Voice & Playing Gracie Darling

Jamie and Claire fans: assemble! At long last, the anticipated Outlander prequel series is hitting screens. And if you've peeped the extended trailer and are already frothy for all things relating to this super-popular series, you'll already know it's shaping up to have plenty to blow the wind up your kilt. Like its predecessor, this story is touting itself as 'a romantic tale that unfolds across time,' shifting between the eve of the Jacobite uprising in the 18th century, and World War I. This time, there are new lovers at the centre of the story, namely the parents of Jamie (Sam Heughan) and Claire (Caitriona Balfe). The first episode largely focuses on the beginnings of the story of Jamie's parents Ellen MacKenzie (Harriet Slater) and Brian Fraser (Jamie Roy), with Claire's 20th century mum and dad, Henry (Jeremy Irvine) and Julia (Hermione Corfield) only getting a look-in towards the end of the episode, though there's plenty to come from those two. Real talk: those looking for highbrow storytelling may be disappointed. They'd also be missing the point: fans watch Outlander (and presumably its prequel, too) for the romance at the centre of the plot, and it's not long before we're fully invested in the stories at play here. Beautifully shot, gorgeously cast (Heughan is about to get a run for his money in the be-kilted-heartthrob stakes) and boasting stunning Scottish Highland scenery, this is one for both rusted-on Outlander fans and those of us (guilty!) who like a good period romp (in all senses of the word). Mark your diaries: this one's going to be big. Eva Longoria is clearly a fan of Welcome to Wrexham. As she says in this new series, which charts her decision to help re-invigorate the fortunes of the struggling Mexican football club Necaxa, her involvement was born out of the idea 'that one day you can be an underdog, and the next you're building a football empire'. If there's one thing Longoria is good at, it's empire building — she's enlisted Rob Mac and Ryan Reynolds to help. They've all got buckets of cash, so that will probably help. It's just not an Aussie drama unless Teresa Palmer or Bella Heathcote are starring — they're both in this one. Based on the novel by Sally Hepworth, it tells the story of Isabel (Palmer) who arrives in Pleasant Court, a picture-perfect suburban cul-de-sac in a town on The Great Ocean Road. She's there in mysterious circumstances, and it's not long before she's upending the lives of all those who reside in the quiet street. Directed by Emma Freeman, this is beautiful to look at and has an intriguing off-kilter feel to it — I lapped up the first episode. One for your watch list. Rolling on my boob tube, snapping up my Adidas trackies and slicking back my high pony in anticipation for Mel C's arrival as a mentor on this long-running show. She's always been my fave Spice Girl (and the only one with any talent — cough who said that?), so I have no doubt she'll elevate the contest with her knowledge of the industry. She's joining returning judge Kate Miller-Heidke, who's nestled in the red chairs alongside Richard Marx and Ronan Keating. Should be a good year. Last seen delivering blenders on The White Lotus, Kiwi actor Morgana O'Reilly is back on the small screen in this fantastically moody and instantly gripping six-part mystery series. She plays Joni, whose friend disappeared in mysterious circumstances during a seance they were all doing as teens in the Nineties. Two decades later, local kids are 'Playing Gracie Darling' when another girl goes missing. Joni is determined to piece together what's afoot. Don't miss this one.

Suki Waterhouse just wore these fashionable and functional ECCO sneakers - here's where to find your pair

When you think of trending sneakers, there are a few brands that come to mind — Nike, Adidas, New Balance, to name a few — but there's another under-the-radar label that even the A-listers have given their tick of approval. Ecco, known for their practical designs and comfortable soles, has long been received as functional, rather than fashionable. But given the recent spottings on the feet of IT girls and Hollywood stars alike, the brand appears to be rising in popularity, quickly becoming a go-to for trending shapes and seasonal styles. Last week, Suki Waterhouse stepped out in London wearing satin shorts (another big trend for 2025) a vintage tee, oversized blazer and ECCO sneakers on her feet. The pair in question? The Biom Lite-W, $299.9 5, a luxe-looking pair crafted from premium leather with a padded collar for extra comfort. While Suki's burgundy pair is not yet available to shop on Aussie shores, there's three colours you can currently choose from; grey, beige and black. Low-profile sneakers have risen to fame as an alternative to heels and flats. Perfect for long days on your feet running errands, heading to lunch or even working 9-5, ECCO is quickly becoming one of the most popular choices for shoppers on the hunt for a cool and comfortable pair of kicks. Suki's favourite style, the Biom Lite, has a sporty-look with a premium finish, padded collar and innovative BIOM Natural Motion midsole that supports feet with every step. Designed in collaboration with Natacha Ramsay-Levi, a former creative at Balenciaga and Louis Vuitton, it's no surprise to see them gaining popularity in the fashion world. Retailing for $299.95 at ECCO, this low-profile pair are a must-have for spring and summer.
