Leaders21-03-2025
The Prophet's Mosque welcomed 4,000 worshipers from 120 countries for Itikaf during the last 10 nights of Ramadan, according to Arab News.
Recently, Saudi authorities have completed preparations for accommodating 10,000 Itikaf worshippers in the Grand Mosque in Mecca and the Prophet's Mosque in Medina, according to Gulf News.
At the Prophet's Mosque, the authorities directed worshipers to their designated areas, as follows: The western rooftop section for men, accessible via staircases No. 6 and 10
The northeastern section for women, with entry through doors 24 and 25A
Chief of Presidency of Religious Affairs in the Grand Mosque and the Prophet's Mosque, Abdulrahman Al Sudais, stressed the significance of providing Itikaf performers with an appropriate environment for performing rituals.
Currently, worshippers can find a dedicated help desk to secure lockers for their belongings, medical clinics as well as first aid.
In addition, other services include multilingual translation support, religious lessons and full meal provisions for iftar, dinner, and sahoor.
Itikaf represents a deeply revered Islamic practice that starts on Ramadan 20 (March 20) and continue until the end of the fasting month.
During the Itikaf period, Muslims should dedicate themselves to worship, seclusion in a mosque, prayer as well as reflection, following the example of the Prophet Mohammed (Peace Be Upon Him).
Furthermore, participants spend their full time in reciting the Quran, making supplications, and performing additional prayers.
They often spend the entire time within the mosque's premises, eating and sleeping there as well.
Therefore, it provides Muslims with an important opportunity to strengthen one's connection with Allah, away from the distractions of daily life.

Scouting empowering Saudi women on global stage

Scouting is more than just a youth activity; it is a universal language that connects young people from diverse cultures, developing their leadership, belonging and a sense of responsibility. In Saudi Arabia, Scouting has emerged as a vital platform for empowering youth, especially women, in alignment with Vision 2030, which places youth at the heart of the nation's transformation. Driven by (Princess Lamia) a deep belief in the leadership potential of Saudi women, Alwaleed Philanthropies launched a strategic initiative in collaboration with the World Scout Foundation to expand young women's participation in Scouting both within the Kingdom and internationally. This initiative has led to the establishment of the first women's Scout units in leading Saudi universities, and authorities including Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University, King Khalid University, Imam Abdulrahman bin Faisal University and the Diriyah Gate Development Authority. The focus is not on symbolic representation, but on true empowerment. To date, more than 400 Saudi Rovers have been supported, many trained to represent the Kingdom at global events, while others lead Scout teams on campus, strengthening their presence both nationally and internationally. In 2019, the initiative enabled the first official participation of young Saudi women at the World Scout Jamboree in the US, a historic moment that marked a new era for women in Saudi Scouting. This journey continued with active participation at the World Scout Jamboree in South Korea in 2023 and now we celebrate the participation of a female Saudi delegation at the World Scout Moot in Portugal in 2025. The focus is not on symbolic representation, but on true empowerment. To date, more than 400 Saudi Rovers have been supported. Princess Lamia bint Majed Saud Al-Saud We also launched the first Saudi edition of the 'JOTA-JOTI' virtual program in collaboration with Princess Nourah University, opening new avenues for young women to connect globally and learn in innovative digital spaces. As chair of the Girl Scouts Committee at the Saudi Arabian Scouts Association, my (Princess Sama) focus is on transforming empowerment into tangible opportunities for building female Scout leaders in the field. We have worked to establish women's Scout teams in universities, open pathways for participation in national and international camps, and develop leadership and teamwork skills. In every event, those taking part showcase the modern Saudi woman: empowered, proactive and responsible. Princess Sama bint Faisal bin Abdullah The committee's vision is to make Scouting a genuine path to leadership, through specialized programs, global representation opportunities and community-driven initiatives that promote inclusion and equality. In every event, those taking part showcase the modern Saudi woman: empowered, proactive and responsible. Today, we see the results of that commitment: young women leading teams, representing the Kingdom abroad and creating real impacts in their communities. What we witness is only one milestone in a longer journey toward greater empowerment, broader inclusion and deeper impact. Saudi Scouting has moved far beyond its traditional role to become a strategic platform for shaping the leaders of tomorrow, both men and women. We firmly believe that continued support for the empowerment of young women in Scouting will help cultivate a generation capable of representing Saudi Arabia at its best, while achieving their aspirations at home and abroad. In this defining national moment, where the roots of heritage meet the vision of the future, our hopes rest on the youth of our nation, both young men and women, to stand as a cornerstone in building our country's future. — Princess Lamia bint Majed Saud Al-Saud is Secretary-General of Alwaleed Philanthropies. Saudi Arabia marks World Humanitarian Day with spending over $141 billion in global aid

Saudi Gazette report RIYADH — Saudi Arabia marks World Humanitarian Day, which falls on August 19, with an extensive history of global humanitarian giving, reflected in aid and development projects totaling over $141 billion across 7,983 initiatives spreading over 173 countries. This sustained commitment solidifies the Kingdom's position as one of the world's largest donor countries. Spearheading these efforts is the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSrelief), established on May 13, 2015, as the Kingdom's dedicated international humanitarian arm. Operating with transparency, neutrality, and professionalism, KSrelief has implemented 3,612 projects worth more than $8.141 billion in 108 nations, benefiting millions of people. KSrelief has been at the forefront of responding to urgent international crises. To alleviate the severe humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip, the centre established air and sea bridges that have delivered over 7,180 tons of aid, provided 20 ambulances to the Palestinian Red Crescent, signed agreements for relief projects valued at $90.35 million, and carried out airdrop operations in partnership with Jordan to overcome the closure of border crossings and ensure the continued delivery of aid to those in need. KSrelief also extended significant support to Syria, operating air and land bridges to deliver essential food, shelter, and medical supplies to people affected by the crisis. A key component of this effort is the Saudi Voluntary Program for Syrians, which has mobilized over 3,000 Saudi volunteers for 104 distinct campaigns. Contributing a total of 218,500 hours, these volunteers have provided crucial support in fields like medicine, education, and economic empowerment. In an urgent response to the devastating February 2023 earthquake that struck Syria and Türkiye, KSrelief operated an air bridge to provide medical, shelter, and food aid to those affected in both nations. In Yemen, influential programs include the Masam project, which has removed over 500,000 landmines; a prosthetic limbs program for the injured; and an initiative that has successfully rehabilitated 530 Yemeni children recruited or affected by the conflict, providing psychological and social support to them and more than 60,000 of their family members. Beyond immediate crisis relief, the Kingdom is globally recognized for its specialized medical initiatives. Chief among them is the Saudi Conjoined Twins Program, a world-renowned effort that has performed 66 complex separation surgeries completely free of charge. The program has studied 150 cases from 27 different countries, embodying the Kingdom's commitment to providing life-changing medical care. At the Kingdom's initiative, the United Nations designated November 24 as World Conjoined Twins Day to raise awareness and celebrate achievements in the field. To enable widespread participation in its charitable work, the Kingdom has also developed powerful digital platforms. The "Sahem" online donation portal has successfully raised over $1.605 billion from nearly 8.5 million donors, ensuring the continuity of KSrelief's global programs. In parallel, the Saudi portal for external volunteering has mobilized over 80,000 volunteers who have participated in 991 programs across 55 countries, contributing to initiatives that include the completion of 236,000 free surgeries. As the world marks World Humanitarian Day, Saudi Arabia's contributions through KSrelief paint a bright picture of humanitarian giving that knows no borders, planting hope in the hearts of those affected by crises and disasters worldwide.
