Law and order has collapsed in State, alleges Jagan Mohan Reddy

YSRCP president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy has slammed the NDA government for the 'collapse of law and order' in the State. Taking to X, Mr. Jagan said he was shocked and pained by the 'complete collapse of law and order' under Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu's governance. 'The systems have been rendered ineffective due to political vendettas and criminal actions of Mr. Naidu and his party leaders. The arrogance and rowdyism of the ruling party have created an atmosphere of fear, leaving no safety or security for people. The police machinery has been manipulated, leading to incidents that are shameful and alarming,' he alleged. 'In Srikalahasti, Tirupati district, when a constable issued a challan to the driver of the MLA's wife for driving under the influence of alcohol, the MLA had the same driver assault the constable in the presence of the Circle Inspector. Instead of taking action, the police tried to hush it up. If a policeman has no protection, how can we expect ordinary citizens to feel safe?' he asked. In YSR Kadapa district's Khajipeta mandal, YSRCP activist Reddy Shiva Lakshminarayana was falsely charged with possessing ganja for refusing to pay a bribe, beaten, and jailed for two months, he alleged. 'Unable to bear the humiliation, he took his own life, leaving his 10-year-old son and 8-year-old daughter destitute,' he added. 'What action is being taken against those who drove him to such a tragic end?' he questioned. In Kurnool district's Orvakallu mandal, a former MPTC member Ramesh Naidu was murdered allegedly by TDP activists. 'Is this the fate of those who work democratically for the people?' he asked. Equally horrific was the alleged assault on a 9th grade Dalit girl at Edu Gurrakulapalli village in Sri Sathya Sai district. 'TDP activists intimidated her family, stopped them from filing a complaint,' Mr. Jagan alleged. The family was forced to flee the village while the police stood as spectators, he alleged. 'These incidents are not isolated. They show a system where law is mocked, justice is denied, and the accused, shielded by the ruling party, walk free. I warn Mr. Naidu that people will not stay silent forever,' he said.

Indore: In the coming years, Indian and local languages will become the primary medium of instruction in higher education, said Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan while chairing the second meeting of the Consultative Committee of Parliament for the Ministry of Education in Indore on Thursday. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The meeting, focused on "Promotion of Education in Bharatiya Bhasha in Higher Education," resulted in renewed commitment toward multilingual education as a foundation for Viksit Bharat by 2047. Pradhan underscored the govt's comprehensive efforts under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 to strengthen mother tongue education. He said that the inclusion of Bharatiya Bhashas in higher education will enhance cognitive development, promote inclusivity, and preserve cultural heritage. "Technology and AI will play a pivotal role in translating academic content and enabling students from rural or economically disadvantaged backgrounds to learn in their preferred language," he added. Members of Parliament appreciated initiatives like Bhasha Sangam, which introduces students to 100 basic sentences in 22 Indian languages. They also welcomed the integration of AI tools such as Anuvadini and UDAAN for translation and multilingual content delivery. Senior officials, including School Education Secretary Sanjay Kumar and Higher Education Secretary Dr Vineet Joshi, briefed the Committee on various initiatives, including the Bharatiya Bhasha Pustak Pariyojna, promotion of regional languages in IITs, and events like Matribhasha Diwas and Kashi Tamil Sangamam. They shared that India identified 1,369 mother tongues grouped into 121 languages, with 22 officially recognised in the Constitution. Bhubaneswar: State govt has formed a high-powered ministerial committee, headed by deputy chief minister Pravati Parida, to supervise the arrangements for the June 27 Rath Yatra in Puri, according to a law department notification released on Friday. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The committee comprises four cabinet ministers as members — Prithiviraj Harichandan (law), Mukesh Mahaling (health), Krushna Chandra Mahapatra (housing and urban development) and Bibhuti Bhusan Jena (commerce and transport). Law secretary Manas Ranjan Barik has been appointed as the convener, with Parida serving as the chairperson. "The committee's mandate includes supervising and guiding government-level arrangements for Rath Yatra, which anticipates attendance exceeding 10 lakh devotees. Smooth conduct of rituals, proper crowd management and convenience of devotees will be the focus areas," a senior govt official said. The govt is taking comprehensive measures, including plans to extend invitations to the President, Prime Minister, Union ministers and chief ministers of NDA-ruled states for the annual festival. The celebrations will take place two weeks after the BJP govt in Odisha marks its first anniversary on June 12, an occasion expected to draw prominent BJP members, including PM Narendra Modi. "We will leave nothing to chance to ensure inter-departmental coordination for an incident-free Rath Yatra celebration," the official said. Sources said the committee is likely to visit Puri in a day or two to oversee the preparations and discuss with various stakeholders as well as servitors of the Jagannath Temple.
