National TVET Council Channels RM1 Million To Unisel To Strengthen TVET Courses
BAGAN DATUK, April 26 (Bernama) -- The National Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Council has channelled RM1 million to Universiti Selangor (Unisel) to implement TVET-related courses aligned with current market demands.
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the TVET courses offered at the university also promise attractive starting salaries, contributing to an improved standard of living for TVET graduates.
'Although the government has set the minimum wage at RM1,700, insya-Allah, TVET graduates, especially those from Unisel, will be able to earn a minimum salary of RM3,000, provided their courses align with current market demands,' he said.
'As chairman of the National TVET Council, I am confident that the six institutions under the Malaysian Technical University Network (MTUN) will continue to collaborate with industry players, to ensure that the courses offered are closely aligned with market demands,' he said.
He said this in his speech at the Bagan Datuk Raya Carnival, held in conjunction with the Unisel Malaysia MADANI Tour, organised in collaboration with the Bagan Datuk parliamentary office at the Bagan Datuk Waterfront, here, today.
Also present were Unisel's vice president and deputy vice chancellor (Student Development and Community Engagement), Associate Professor Dr Hamdan Mohd Salleh.
Earlier, Ahmad Zahid, who is also the Minister of Rural and Regional Development, officiated the Rural Transformation Initiative (INTRADE) Submodule, involving 119 Administrative and Diplomatic Officer (PTD) cadets, at the Dewan Armada Utama, Politeknik Bagan Datuk.
The programme is one of the initiatives under the Postgraduate Diploma in Public Management (DPA) programme, organised by the National Institute of Public Administration (INTAN) for the 2024/2025 session.
According to the Public Service Department, the programme reflects the MADANI Government's commitment to empowering the people, through rural development initiatives rooted in the values of well-being, with a focus on balancing physical and social development.

Telcos reassure customer privacy in MCMC data initiative

KUALA LUMPUR: Telecommunication companies (telcos) have reaffirmed their commitment to protecting customer data and privacy, following the use of mobile phone data (MPD) for official statistical purposes by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC). U Mobile Sdn Bhd affirmed in a statement today that customer data and privacy are its top priority, with policies and processes in place to ensure any shared data is anonymised, aggregated and fully compliant with applicable data protection laws and regulations. Advertisement 'We are aware of the objectives of the initiative and are committed to working with MCMC in a manner that upholds the highest standards of data governance,' it said. It noted that when the company does share the MPD, at no point will personally identifiable information be shared or processed. U Mobile remains committed to safeguarding customer privacy and ensuring full regulatory compliance in all aspects of data management, it added. Meanwhile, Telekom Malaysia Bhd (TM) also clarified that the MPD submitted to MCMC is fully anonymised and does not contain any personally identifiable information. Advertisement Data submission is carried out under strict governance and security protocols, with full compliance to applicable company policies as well as national laws and regulatory requirements, it said in a statement. 'TM remains fully committed to safeguarding the safety and privacy of customer data with responsibility and integrity,' it noted. CelcomDigi Bhd said in a statement that it continues to work intently with MCMC to support the government's initiatives without compromising the integrity of customer data. 'When required, CelcomDigi will process requested data within our own secure environments and provide a limited sample on relevant fields comprising anonymised and aggregated output to the commission,' it said. YTL Communications Sdn Bhd also confirms compliance with MCMC's directive to submit mobile network usage records for the first quarter of 2025, in support of the government's recently approved mandate to use MPD for national statistics. 'In fulfilling this obligation, YTL Communications has taken rigorous steps to anonymise all data prior to submission. No personally identifiable information has been shared, and customer privacy remains our highest priority,' it noted in a statement. Maxis Bhd said that for this initiative, as requested by MCMC, there is no access to, processing of, or sharing of personally identifiable information at any stage, as the company places the priority on data privacy and security. 'All data is anonymised by Maxis and processed in an aggregated manner within a secure environment, in full compliance with the Personal Data Protection Act 2010 (PDPA),' it said in a statement. On June 6, MCMC clarified that its collection of MPD from mobile network operators (MNOs) does not involve the access, processing or disclosure of any personally identifiable information. China committed to building South China Sea into sea of peace, friendship and cooperation, says report
BEIJING (Bernama-Xinhua): Xinhua Institute, a think tank affiliated with Xinhua News Agency, on Sunday released a report highlighting China's commitment to building the South China Sea into a sea of peace, friendship, and cooperation. The report, titled "Making the South China Sea a Sea of Peace, Friendship and Cooperation: China's Actions" and published in both Chinese and English, noted that China has always been a steadfast advocate, promoter, and guardian of peace and stability in the South China Sea, reported Xinhua. According to the report, China has long maintained that peace and stability in these waters depend on collaborative efforts between China and member states of the Association of South-East Asian Nations (Asean). Through deepened trust and cooperation across political, economic, and cultural spheres, this partnership has created lasting mutual benefits. Consequently, China has emerged as a reliable force for maintaining regional peace and stability while promoting cooperation and development in the South China Sea. The report stated that China has always adhered to the principles of building the South China Sea into a sea of peace, friendship, and cooperation: equal-footed consultation, rule-based co-management, mutually beneficial cooperation, and a constructive role. The report called on China and AseaN countries to ensure that the solutions of the South China Sea issues remain in their own hands, to adhere to sound principles and direction in addressing the issues, and to continue upholding the notion of a maritime community with a shared future. The report also called for joint efforts by China and Asean countries to build the South China Sea into a sea of peace, friendship, and cooperation that benefits the people of all regional countries. The think tank report has received positive evaluations from experts. They believe the report comprehensively explained China's practical achievements, insights, and pathways in advocating for the South China Sea to become a sea of peace, friendship, and cooperation, marking a significant academic contribution to the study of South China Sea issues. Zhang Jie, a research fellow at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, noted that the report not only offered historical depth but also summarised the latest developments in the South China Sea situation. It further clarified China's principled stance and comprehensively demonstrated China's positive contributions to the peace and stability of the South China Sea based on facts. Yang Xiao, a research fellow at the China Institutes of Contemporary International Relations, stated that the report, with a vision for a better future in the South China Sea, creatively explained and summarised China's consistent adherence to the principles on South China Sea issues. Those principles serve as the foundation for China-ASEAN dialogue, cooperation, and constructive development, carrying significant theoretical and practical importance for the future, consensus-building, and bridging differences. Ma Chao, associate research fellow at the Maritime Silk Road Research Institute of Hainan Normal University, believed that China, upholding the concept of a maritime community with a shared future, has deepened cooperation with parties in the South China Sea. Civilians In Gaza Face Heavy Attacks While Seeking Food At Aid Centres: UN Agency
ISTANBUL, June 8 (Bernama-Anadolu) -- The UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) reported Saturday that civilians suffering from hunger in the Gaza Strip have come under heavy Israeli attacks while seeking food at aid distribution centres, reported Anadolu Ajansi (AA). UNRWA cited in a statement the testimony of a Palestinian survivor of an attack on a distribution centre in Rafah, which had been established by the US and Israel-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) under the guise of humanitarian aid. The statement noted that starving Palestinians, in their desperate search for food, are being exposed to intense Israeli assaults at the so-called distribution centers, putting their lives at severe risk.
