Two men due in court following €31m drugs seizure in west Cork
Gardaí from the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau stopped a van in the Courtmacsherry area of County Cork, and a large quantity of suspected cocaine was recovered.

The men, aged in their 30s and 40s,are expected to appear before a sitting of Bandon District Court on Thursday morning.
Two other men, also in their 30s and 40s, remain detained at a Garda station in Co. Cork under Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act, 2007.
A Rigid Inflatable Boat (RIB) with two males on board departed from Broadstrand, Courtmacsherry.
The Irish Naval ship, L.É. William Butler Yeats on patrol in the area as part of the Joint Task Force operation responded, supported by a Maritime patrol aircraft from the Irish Air Corps, who provided overhead surveillance during the operation.
Two Naval Service rigid-hulled inflatable boats (RIBs), with members of ships armed Maritime interdiction Team, were launched from L.É. William Butler Yeats and intercepted the suspect RIB off the coast of Cork.
The suspect RIB was detained by Revenue Customs Service and the two males were taken on board the L.É. William Butler Yeats.
The L.É. William Butler Yeats returned to Haulbowline Naval Base and both males (also aged in their 30s and 40s) were arrested.

Colombia's still-powerful former president Álvaro Uribe has been sentenced to 12 years of house arrest, capping a long and contentious career that defined the country's politics for a generation. The lengthy house arrest, which is due to be publicly announced on Friday, marks the first time in Colombia's history that a former president has been convicted of a crime and sentenced. Uribe insists he is innocent and said he would appeal the ruling. A law-and-order hardliner, Uribe was a close ally of the United States and retains ties to the American right. The US secretary of state, Marco Rubio, earlier decried Uribe's prosecution, claiming, without providing evidence, that it represented 'the weaponization of Colombia's judicial branch by radical judges'. Recent opinion polls revealed Uribe to be the South American country's best-loved politician. In 2019, thousands protested in Medellín and the capital, Bogotá, when he was first indicted in the case. On Monday, a smaller group of followers gathered outside the court wearing masks fashioned after his image and chanting: 'Uribe, innocent!' The investigation against Uribe began in 2018 and has had numerous twists and turns, with several attorneys general seeking to close the case. It gained new impetus under the current attorney general, Luz Camargo, picked by the current president, Gustavo Petro – himself a former guerrilla and a political arch-foe of Uribe. More than 90 witnesses testified in the trial, which opened in May 2024. During the trial, prosecutors produced evidence of at least one ex-paramilitary fighter who said he was contacted by Uribe to change his story. Maguiresbridge: Victims of fatal shooting to be laid to rest in County Clare
The funeral service for the mother and her two children murdered in County Fermanagh last week will be held on surgeon Vanessa Whyte, 45, her 14-year-old son James Rutledge and 13-year-old daughter Sara Rutledge were shot dead in Maguiresbridge last week.A funeral Mass is to take place in the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Ms Whyte's hometown of Barefield, County Clare, at 12:00 local will then be buried together in Templemaley Cemetery. Olympic star Sha'Carri Richardson arrested on domestic violence charge after incident with sprinter boyfriend
Olympic sprinter Sha'Carri Richardson was arrested at a Seattle airport on Sunday following an incident with boyfriend and fellow Team USA star Christian Coleman, according to reports. The Athletic claims Richardson, who won a 100m silver and 4x100m relay gold medal at last year's Paris Games, was held in custody for just shy of 19 hours after being arrested on a domestic violence assault charge. It is believed the 25-year-old first got into a heated argument with Coleman, her boyfriend of two years, at the TSA security checkpoint in Seattle Tacoma International Airport before an officer witnessed her shoving him multiple times as he tried to walk away. Footage of the alleged incident was reportedly captured on security camera, with cops deeming it enough probable cause to arrest her. The offense was listed as a fourth-degree domestic violence assault, per The Athletic.
