The success of Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda 's film 'Saiyaara' demonstrates that if the story of the film resonates with the audience, it does not require big stars. The movie is scoring big at the box office day after day. The lead stars have received immense love from the viewers, especially the young audience. However, would the movie have been successful if the main actors had been well-known? The question comes into the picture because the film's director, Mohit Suri , initially had different plans. Here's a closer look at what Mohit Suri had in mind. Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda were not the first choice for 'Saiyaara' According to ScoopWhoop, Mohit Suri had planned to rope in two known stars for the film. And as per the report, the duo was none other than Sidharth Malhotra and Kiara Advani . Sonakshi Sinha's Brother Kussh Hints Saiyaara Might Be Copied? Nikita Roy Director Says 'There's Been…'
Sonakshi Sinha's brother, Kussh Sinha, director of Nikita Roy, opened up on his film's struggle against the hit Saiyaara, starring Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda. When three Bollywood films dropped on the same Friday (July 18), only one took over the conversation – and the box office. While Saiyaara quickly became the runaway hit of the season, Nikita Roy and Tanvi the Great were left behind, barely making a dent. Now, Shatrughan Sinha's son, Kussh Sinha, who directed his sister Sonakshi Sinha in Nikita Roy, is opening up about what went wrong – and why he believes his film never stood a real chance. In an interview with Dainik Bhaskar, he admitted they struggled to secure screens. 'We tried to get more screens, but sometimes, some films are swept along by a wave," he said. 'At the same time, whichever theatre chains we have spoken to, they've seen the merit in the film and they've held on to it." Though he didn't directly name Saiyaara, it was clear which film he was referring to. 'Three films were released on the same day, and while everybody knows about the film that performed so well, the other film lost theatres." Kush acknowledged Saiyaara's success and even congratulated the team. 'Nobody anticipated this wave, and box office results aren't in our hands. I'm happy that a romantic film starring two newcomers has done so well. I'm happy for YRF, and I want to congratulate them." He also hinted that his own film might have had a better shot if the promotional strategy had been stronger. 'Other stakeholders in the film could've done things differently to anticipate Saiyaara and to promote Nikita Roy more forcefully," he said. Despite the rough start, Kush remains optimistic and said that his film has actually gained some traction in its second week. 'Our film has survived the storm and has entered week two with 40%-50% increase in theatres." His family has stood by the film too. 'The best thing is that it is an entirely original film, we haven't plagiarised content from anywhere," he said. When asked about the plagiarism chatter surrounding Saiyaara, Kussh chose to stay out of it but made his own position clear. 'There have been discussions, but that is for them to answer. It's up to them to clear their names. But I've always been clear that I want to tell original stories, and if I ever do a remake, it will be an official remake. Others might not share this point of view, and that's up to them." First Published: July 29, 2025, 15:30 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
