Do you know your dog at all?

Washington Post4 days ago

In today's edition:
This past weekend, Post Opinions published one of the most disconcerting pronouncements I've encountered in my near-decade working here: You might not know your dog as well as you think you do.
Clive D.L. Wynne and Holly Molinaro are researchers at Arizona State University; the very good, very handsome Oliver is Molinaro's dog. Oliver is also the star of the researchers' study, in which they made videos of him responding either happily or unhappily to various stimuli.

Guillermo del Toro's ‘Frankenstein' Has Its Creepy First Trailer

The world's next hot monster is here. At its big Tudum event, Netflix released the first teaser trailer for Guillermo del Toro's latest film, Frankenstein. In it, audiences finally catch a glimpse of Jacob Elordi as Frankenstein's monster. A monster that is scary, but in a way that makes death seem okay. Thankfully, that's juxtaposed with the type of gore and scope one expects from Del Toro. The Oscar-winning director of The Shape of Water, Pan's Labyrinth, Pacific Rim, Hellboy and others has been wanting to make his version of the classic Mary Shelley story for years now, and with the help of Oscar Isaac, Christoph Waltz, and Mia Goth, he's done just that. Here's the first trailer for Frankenstein. Though Frankenstein was produced and will live on Netflix, we certainly hope audiences have a chance to see it on a big screen. Guillermo del Toro is one of those filmmakers whose work begs to be seen in a theater, and Frankenstein looks to fit the bill once again. It's all there in the trailer—incredible sets, beautiful visual effects, stunning costumes, gruesome makeup, you name it. We're also very curious about where Frankenstein is going to fit into the awards cycle at the end of this year. With a cast and crew like this, you'd imagine Netflix is expecting Frankenstein to be a contender for all the major awards. And, frankly, fans like you and I expect the movie to be good enough to do so. However, a project like this, one that seems so incredible on paper, often doesn't meet those expectations. How could it? This is the ultimate monster story from the ultimate monster filmmaker! After seeing this trailer, though, we think maybe this will live up to its potential Frankenstein, directed by Guillermo del Toro and starring Jacob Elordi, Oscar Isaac, Mia Goth, and Christoph Waltz, comes to Netflix in November.

Chopper Steals the Show in Netflix's 'One Piece' Reveal

Line up for the doctor. One Piece fans know who's joining Netflix's live-action show for season 2, and today, Tony Tony Chopper made his official appearance for a sneak peek of what's to come. We first spotted his reddish hat and signature antlers during the streamer's Geeked Week celebration last fall, but Netflix revealed Chopper during its live Tudum event. When the series returns in 2026, the beloved character will be voiced by Mikaela Hoover. Adapted from the long-running manga, One Piece picks up the story and takes Luffy and the rest of the Straw Hat gang through several story arcs, including Reverse Mountain, Whiskey Peak, Little Garden and Drum Island. If you've been a fan of Chopper for a while, then you may want to emotionally prepare (and get the tissues) for Drum Island. His backstory with Dr. Hiriluk hits hard. A skilled medic in the pirate crew, Chopper the doctor is known for his kindness and brings a degree of virtuousness to One Piece. He'll be introduced to the small screen with Hoover's role as a voice actor and facial capture model, but he won't be alone when he joins the story in season 2. Among those entering the mix are Joe Manganiello as Mr. 0, Charithra Chandran as Miss Wednesday, Katey Sagal as Dr. Kureha, Lera Abova as Miss All Sunday, Mark Harelik as Dr. Hiriluk and many more. Though fans will have to wait until 2026 for season 2, you can binge One Piece season 1 now on Netflix, and enjoy the anime on the platform, too.
