Truck driver dies after crash into Toowoomba retirement village

A truck driver has died after crashing into the side of a residential unit block on one of Toowoomba's busiest roads.
Emergency services were alerted about 1:15pm Friday after receiving reports a truck travelling eastbound collided with a white SUV travelling in the opposite direction, before crashing into a residential unit block on James Street near Clifford Gardens Shopping Centre.
Police said in a statement that the driver, a man in his 50s, died at the scene.
A woman who was inside the unit at the time was treated for shock.
Queensland Fire Department Superintendent Kent Barron said it was "early days" and police would investigate the circumstances of the crash.
"There's been sustained damage to the corner of the unit and we will shore that building up and see what we can to do enable the residents to return," he said.
Superintendent Barron said it had been a busy afternoon for emergency services in Toowoomba with numerous incidents across the city.
Two other unrelated crashes were reported along Toowoomba's busy Anzac Avenue.
One person suffered minor injures, and a car was left on its roof when two cars collided at the roundabout of Anzac Avenue, West Street, and Russell Street at about 1:15pm.
At the same time, one person was taken to hospital in a stable condition when two cars collided at the intersection of Anzac Avenue and Alderley Street.
"I guess it's a timely reminder for people to be really careful on our roads," Superintendent Barron said.
"As a rescue service we are sick and tired of going to these types of incidents, we just ask people to be safe on the roads."

Western Sydney medical centre wrecked after teen allegedly crashes stolen car after cop chase

A teenager has been charged after allegedly crashing a stolen BMW into a medical centre and causing extensive damage following a police chase through Sydney's west. About 11.30PM on Friday, police attempted to stop the SUV, which they allege was stolen from a Cambridge Park hotel that night, on the Northern Rd, Cranebrook. When the driver allegedly failed to stop, police initiated a pursuit but terminated it a short-time later due to safety concerns. Police allege the BMW later collided with a Mitsubishi SUV on the Great Western Hwy at St Marys, before crashing into a nearby medical centre. The alleged driver – a 16-year-old boy – was arrested at the scene with the assistance of the Dog Squad after attempting to hide in the centre. He was treated at the scene by paramedics before being taken to hospital under police guard. The teen was later charged with police pursuit not stop drive dangerously, take/drive conveyance without consent of owner, and never licenced person drive vehicle on road. He to appear before children's court on Saturday. The driver of the Mitsubishi – a 39-year-old woman – was also treated at the scene, but was not taken to hospital. The Traffic and Highway Patrol Command have since established a crime scene with Strike Force Puma to investigate the incident. Images of the medical centre obtained by 7News showed extensive destruction, including a broken sign and debris strewn across the floor.

Man accused of raping a mum after she denied him breast milk

A father in the American state Louisiana is accused of raping a longtime friend just two weeks after she gave birth. Police allege he attacked her after she refused to let him drink her breast milk. Cecil Fuller, 38, shocked the new mum, a friend of 10 years, when he asked to drink her milk while visiting her in her home around 4.30am on Tuesday, US time, according to court documents obtained by KTVE. Disgusted, the unidentified friend went into her bedroom to escape him. Fuller followed her in and raped her, according to the documents. Fuller is also accused of choking her to the point where she was unable to breathe — and only stopping the attack when the mum's baby woke up and started crying, police said, New York Post reported. Police were called to a medical centre and heard the woman's horror story. Fuller was arrested later that day. He was arrested on one count of second-degree rape and booked into the Ouachita Correctional Center, where he's being held without bond. Fuller looked crestfallen with dark circles under his eyes in his mugshot. He is a dad of two who recently split from his wife, according to social media posts shared by the Daily Mail. The accused rapist was previously arrested in November 2023 for allegedly dealing drugs that led to two people overdosing. Police found 200 prescription pills, marijuana, synthetic marijuana, and methamphetamines at the home where the pair overdosed, according to KTVE. He was also arrested in 2018 after he was caught smoking meth in a house where young children were present.

Mark Latham reveals ‘truth' about defecation claim in new affidavit

Former Labor leader Mark Latham has confirmed, in a 13-page sworn affidavit, that he did defecate on his ex-lover, Nathalie Matthews, and that she called him 'master' during sex, but he insists it was all her idea. In a graphic account of the couple's relationship filed in NSW Local Court, the NSW MP strongly denies all of Ms Matthews' allegations of mistreatment in their relationship, insisting that some of the more unusual sexual acts they engaged in were at her request. Confirming for the first time that her original claim in an AVO application that he defecated on her prior to sex had occurred, he insists he was simply following orders. 'She asked me to s*** on her in the bathroom once because it turned her on,' he wrote. 'I did that but said we wouldn't be doing it again. 'She said she would like to s*** on me and I said that would never happen and it never did.' In the affidavit, which was first obtained by The Sunday Telegraph, Mr Latham asserts that the couple's 'consensual subservience' was at the behest of his younger girlfriend. 'As a reflection of this desire, she insisted on calling me 'master' and that I use this nomenclature,' Mr Latham writes in the affidavit. 'When having sex, she would invariably demand from me, 'Call me Mark's slut,' or 'Call me Master's slut,' knowing this would bring her to orgasm multiple times,' he wrote. 'She was a highly powered sexual woman who knew what she liked and how to get it.' He claims this role play allowed her to 'orgasm multiple times'. Ms Matthews has been contacted for comment on this claim. Mr Latham has previously slammed the media as 'peeping toms' amid revelations his former partner booked him two sex workers to celebrate his 64th birthday and asked for the escorts to refer to the NSW MP as 'master'. In her own application for an AVO in the NSW Local Court, Ms Matthews claims Mr Latham pressed her 'to engage in sexual acts with others' and demanded she call him 'master' – claims Mr Latham strongly denies. 'Throughout our relationship, the defendant engaged in a sustained pattern of emotional, physical, sexual, psychological, and financial abuse, including defecating on me before sex and refusing to let me wash,'' the application states. does not suggest the claims are true, only that they have been made in an application to the NSW Local Court in pursuit of an AVO. Mr Latham led the Labor Party from December 2003 before going on to lose the federal election in October 2004. He later joined the Liberal Democrats (2017–2018) and then One Nation (2018–2023). Mr Latham also claims in the affidavit that Ms Matthews had up to 20 sexual partners in the two years they were together. According to the report, Mr Latham claims that Ms White once sent him naked photos in the aftermath of a group sex session with four Emirati men. Mr Latham claims in the affidavit that Ms Matthews sent him annual text messages to mark the date, including one that said, 'I told you I'd be your slut. I think I'm doing a good job!' The NSW Labor MP also claims in the affidavit that Ms Matthews was a fan of controversial influencer Andrew Tate and had a fetish for married men. 'In f***ing me, it shows me how much they value it — risking their marriage,' Mr Latham claimed in the document that Ms Matthew told him during their relationship. 'I've done my best to ignore her but … she has tried to make herself unavoidable in my life through this bogus AVO application and scores of leaks to the media, producing salacious headlines.' The matter will return to court next month.
