40-day ‘Fun Fair Exhibition' at Dasara grounds to begin on Friday

The Hindu08-05-2025

In a move to transform the Dasara Exhibition Grounds in Mysuru into a vibrant, year-round venue, the Karnataka Exhibition Authority (KEA) will be launching a 40-day-long 'Fun Fair Exhibition' on Friday, and it will conclude on June 17.
KEA chairman Ayub Khan announced on Thursday that the exhibition will be open to the public daily from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. Entry is priced at ₹50 for adults and ₹30 for children aged above five.
A key attraction of the fair is a replica of the iconic Niagara Falls, along with amusement games, commercial stalls, food courts, and special lighting displays.
Traditionally active only during the annual Dasara festivities, the exhibition grounds are now being positioned as a multi-purpose venue for hosting exhibitions, cultural events, shows, weddings, and other activities throughout the year. The fun fair is part of the KEA's broader vision to make the space more dynamic and accessible throughout the year.
The KEA had urged the Deputy Commissioner to consider centralising all city expos at the Dasara grounds, citing the site's infrastructure, ample parking, and basic amenities as key advantages. The authority proposed making it mandatory for expos to be held at the exhibition grounds rather than at various scattered venues in the city.
In a further boost to Mysuru's development, the KEA is also working to bring a Unity Mall to the city. The Central government has allocated ₹193 crore to the State for establishing such malls aimed at promoting local products and crafts.

From acclaim to accusations: Trouble brews again in Mollywood

Mollywood, long celebrated for its rich storytelling, is once again in the spotlight for the wrong reasons. Malayalam actor Unni Mukundan has landed in controversy after his former manager filed a police complaint in Kochi, alleging that the actor physically and verbally assaulted him. The manager was reportedly treated at a hospital for injuries sustained during the altercation. This incident adds to a growing list of controversies surrounding the Malayalam film industry in recent years. From sexual harassment allegations to drug abuse on sets, Mollywood has been battling a tarnished image despite its cinematic acclaim. Recently, actor Shine Tom Chacko, known for his roles in Telugu films like Dasara, Rangabali, and the upcoming Devara, made headlines after jumping from a hotel window during an inspection by the anti-narcotics squad. The bizarre act was perceived as an attempt to evade questioning, further fuelling speculation about rampant substance abuse within the industry. The situation echoes past scandals. In 2017, a high-profile actress assault case led to the Justice Hema Committee Report, which labelled Mollywood a 'mafia of powerful men.' The report named several prominent figures, including Ranjith Balakrishnan, VK Prakash, Siddique, Mukesh, and Jayasurya, with a total of 17 cases registered. Earlier this year, producer Sandra Thomas made headlines after revealing that some producers allegedly included drug budgets within film financing, aiming to meet actor demands. While the creative output from Mollywood continues to win national and international praise, repeated controversies are sparking widespread public outrage. Netizens and industry observers alike believe the industry needs urgent reform and a serious internal cleanup. Without accountability and systemic change, the dark underbelly of Mollywood threatens to overshadow its cinematic brilliance.

The film has earned Rs 77.48 crore in 17 days, just Rs 4.45 crore short of Dasara's Rs 81.93 crore. Strong word-of-mouth and Nani's growing pan-India appeal have fueled its success, despite facing competition from other summer releases. Natural Star Nani seems to be on the brink of delivering the biggest hit of his career. His latest thriller, HIT: The Third Case, is steadily inching towards surpassing the lifetime box office collection of his 2023 blockbuster Dasara . As of its 17-day run, HIT: The Third Case has amassed an impressive Rs 77.48 crore across all languages, putting it just Rs 4.45 crore short of Dasara's lifetime total of Rs 81.93 crore. The film opened to a roaring start with a Rs 21 crore collection on its opening day, powered predominantly by its Telugu version which contributed Rs 20.25 crore. Though collections dipped on the second day by 50%, it picked up steam over the weekend, maintaining steady double-digit numbers and wrapping its first week at Rs 63.65 crore. While the second week saw a significant drop — which is customary for most theatrical releases — HIT: The Third Case still managed to collect Rs 12.7 crore, thanks to strong word-of-mouth and Nani's loyal fanbase. Notably, the film performed especially well in the Hindi belt and Tamil Nadu compared to his previous outings, signaling Nani's growing pan-India appeal. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 2025년 최고의 전설적인 로봇 전투를 경험해보세요 기계 경기장 Undo The third weekend, however, has slowed down further with Friday and Saturday bringing in Rs 59 lakh and Rs 54 lakh respectively. Yet, trade experts remain optimistic. With Sunday's collection and weekday holdovers, HIT: The Third Case is well within striking distance of crossing the Rs 81.93 crore benchmark set by Dasara. If it manages to touch or surpass that figure in the coming days, HIT: The Third Case will officially become the highest-grossing film of Nani's career — a remarkable feat for a franchise thriller that faced stiff competition from other summer releases. Directed by Sailesh Kolanu , co-starring Srinidhi Shetty , the film's taut narrative, gripping performances, and Nani's star power have struck a chord with audiences, reaffirming his status as one of Telugu cinema's most dependable actors at the box office.
