YSRCP leaders behind kidnap, torture of Dalit youth: TDP
Tirupati: The alleged abduction and assault of a Dalit youth in Tirupati has triggered a sharp political confrontation, with Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leader and Swachh Andhra Corporation chairman Kommareddy Pattabhi Ram demanding stringent action against former Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) chairman and YSRCP state spokesperson Bhumana Karunakar Reddy and his son, Abhinay Reddy. Addressing the media on Sunday, Pattabhi accused the Bhumana family of masterminding the incident. He claimed that Abhinay Reddy's close aides, Anil and Jagadish Reddy, abducted Pavan Kumar of Pulicherla in Chittoor district, tortured him, and later coerced him into saying that his own brother was responsible after videos of the assault emerged. The TDP leader also levelled charges of large-scale corruption and land grabbing against Karunakar Reddy, alleging illegal occupation of nine acres in the Swarnamukhi riverbed and registration of 21 properties in the names of family members during his tenure as TTD and TUDA chairman. He remarked that Karunakar Reddy had risen from running a photocopy shop to amassing assets worth thousands of crores, questioning the source of his wealth. Referring to the abduction of Pavan Kumar, Pattabhi said Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and Minister Nara Lokesh had intervened to rescue him, leading to the arrest of the main accused. He demanded that those 'at the top' face legal consequences without political protection. TDP leaders G Narasimha Yadav, Parasa Rathnam, RC Munikrishna, P Sridhar Varma and others were present. Meanwhile, police said Pavan had gone missing after being allegedly held captive for nearly 12 hours and beaten with a police baton by Anil Kumar Reddy – YSRCP Tirupati social media in-charge – over a dispute involving a rented two-wheeler. The assault was reportedly recorded and the video sent to the youth's father, along with a demand for payment. Pavan's mother, Sunitha, had released a video on social media pleading for her son's safe return, while Dalit organisations sought urgent police action. Four special police teams were deployed to trace him, and he was eventually found in Chittoor and shifted to SVR Ruia Government General Hospital. Doctors confirmed a fracture below his left knee, and he remains under treatment. Police have said the investigation is continuing, with more arrests likely as they probe the alleged role of those accused of planning the attack.

Tirumala police step up vigil to check chain snatchers
1 2 Tirupati : Tirumala police have stepped up vigil on the movement of suspects and interstate gangs following the recent arrest of a gang of chain snatchers from Maharashtra operating in the guise of devotees in the hill town. The sacred abode of Lord Venkateswara at Tirumala, which attracts approximately 60,000-70,000 devotees during weekdays and close to 1 lakh pilgrims from across the globe during the weekends and festive occasions, is one of the major pilgrimage hotspots in the country. With the temple open almost round the clock and jostling with pilgrims day-in and day-out, local petty criminals and gangs occasionally turn up on the hill town to try their luck and decamp with the valuables of the visiting devotees. While the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams in coordination with the Tirumala police have been effectively dealing with the petty thefts, pickpockets and other similar offences with the help of 24/7 surveillance through the centralised command control centre, the manner in which a six member chain snatchers gang from Maharashtra operated at Tirumala in the disguise of devotees, has come as a surprise for the Tirumala police. According to Tirumala I town CI Vijay Kumar, Arjun Lakshman Masalkar (24), Bhagwan Bapurao Gaikwad (42), Vikas Vijay Yadav (27), Ganesh Sunil Gaikwad (30), Akash Baban Gaikwad (31) and Ravi Janardhan Jadhav (38), belonging to different parts of Maharashtra, were found to be frequently travelling to Tirumala in the disguise as devotees and resorting to acts of chain snatching at high pilgrim congregation points on the hill town. "This gang targeted a lonely woman devotee from Hyderabad near Pilgrim amenities complex-3 at Tirumala in June this year and decamped with her gold chain. A month later on July 26th, the same gang used a cutter to cut the chain from the neck of a woman devotee from Krishnagiri near the silver gate entrance inside the Tirumala temple," the CI stated. After receiving complaints from the two woman devotees, the Tirumala police meticulously analysed all available CCTV footage and apprehended all the six accused near the Outer Ring Road at Tirumala in the first week of August. Police recovered approximately 87 grams of gold chains worth approximately Rs.8 lakh from the possession of the accused. The SUV used by the gang to frequent to Tirumala from Maharashtra was also seized by the police. According to Tirumala I town CI, the Maharashtrian gang had a prolonged criminal history and were involved in multiple chain snatching and rioting incidents back in Maharashtra and in other states. With the Maharashtrian gang now behind the bars, the Tirumala police who have stepped up vigil on the hill town, have appealed to the devotees visiting the hill town for a pilgrimage to be extremely cautious especially when they are at high pilgrim congregation points at Tirumala. Cops' security notices to 32 Tirumala mutts
Tirupati: The police department has issued security upgrade notices to 32 Hindu mutts in Tirumala, prompting strong objections from the YSRCP, which called it an insult to the revered Hindu pontiffs. As per the provisions of the Public Safety (Measures) Enforcement Act, 2013, these mutts are classified as "establishments" and must enhance security protocols. This includes installing CCTV cameras, deploying full-time security personnel, and implementing access control measures such as pilgrim frisking with hand-held and door-frame metal detectors. While historic mutts like Ahobilam, Parakala, and Sringeri have operated in Tirumala for decades, this is the first time they've received such directives from law enforcement. The mutts are yet to respond officially to the notice. And while the mutts are yet to respond to the diktat served to them by the Tirumala police, former TTD chairman Bhumana Karunakar Reddy slammed the police dept and the AP govt for going overboard in the guise of security. Addressing a press conference in Tirupati on Sunday, Bhumana felt it was an insult to the highly revered Hindu pontiffs, who are not only the representatives of the mutts but are also the custodians and torch-bearers of the Hindu Sanathana Dharma. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You To Read in 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo "The devotees and the disciples of the mutt who stay here and strictly follow certain ancient customs and pious religious traditions are not supposed to be touched in the first place. They observe a practice called "Madi" and Touching them means disrespecting them and their traditions. That being the case, how can the police dept mandate security frisking at these sacred mutts", the former TTD chief questioned. Bhumana also questioned the double standards of the police dept. "There are nearly 8000 odd rooms at Tirumala and there are many guesthouses and cottages operated by the TTD. Why hasn't the police dept issued similar notices to the TTD to upgrade security systems at all its guesthouses and cottages at Tirumala. Why are the Hindu mutts alone being singled out by the police dept", Bhumana wondered and warned that the YSRCP will extend support to the Hindu pontiffs and stage protests if the police dept doesn't withdraw it's notices with immediate effect.
