TTD holds meet on increased leopard movement in Tirumala
The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) on Tuesday conducted a meeting at the Gokulam Conference Hall on the increased movement of wild cats along the footpaths and ghat roads in Tirumala.
TTD Executive Officer J. Syamala Rao, participated virtually, along with Additional Executive Officer Ch. Venkaiah Chowdary and officials from the TTD Forest, State Forest, Wildlife Institute of India, and other stakeholders, discussed short-term and long-term plans to tackle the situation.
The meeting discussed the overall management of the MANIMAL Plan in TTD and decided to deploy additional forces and ensure timely garbage management along the Alipiri footpath route. It was decided that a joint drive along the footpath route with officials from various departments, including Forest, Revenue and Panchayat will be conducted on a regular basis.
The Wildlife Institute of India and Forest Department shall assist TTD in preparing measures to overcome the Human-Animal conflict. Several safety gadgets, including camera traps, bio-fences, and pepper sprays will be deployed to ensure the Alipiri footpath is a 'No Leopard Zone.'
Restrictions will be imposed on shopkeepers, and surveillance will be increased, particularly on the 2.5 km stretch between Sri Narasimha Swamy Temple and the 7th mile on the Alipiri trekking route.
