Gavin and Stacey star Ruth Jones appeared on The One Show on Thursday evening and was joined by Joanne Lumley and Alexander Skarsgard to discuss her latest project.

Viewers of The One Show were treated to a star-studded sofa on Thursday as Angellica Bell and Roman Kemp welcomed Joanne Lumley, Ruth Jones and Alexander Skarsgard onto the programme.
In the episode, Ruth Jones, well-known from Gavin and Stacey, discussed her latest book, By Your Side.
Responding to a fan's inquiry regarding her choice to write in the first person, Ruth explained: "My previous three books were all written in the third person and past tense."
She elaborated on her decision saying: "I just wanted to write part of this book, Linda's story, in the present tense and first person so that I could make it more of a monologue and being an actress, I could inhabit the voice."
Yet, when touching on the topic of the audiobook, the star confessed she narrates using a Scottish accent.

Looking into the camera, Ruth said: "She (Linda) is actually Scottish, so I've done the audiobook and I apologise right now to the entire nation of Scotland for my Scottish accent."
During her chat with Angellica and Roman, Ruth mentioned that the recording process was enjoyable and helped bring the character of Linda to life, reports the Express.
The conversation took a turn towards TV possibilities, as Ruth was asked if she'd want to play Linda.

She firmly stated: "I'd be furious if they don't give me the part! Absolutely."
Ruth went on to provide insight into her novel, describing it as a tale of two primary characters whose lives are intertwined despite them never meeting.
Ruth detailed: "Levi Norman lives his story set in the '80s, and Linda Standish's story is set in the present day.
"Her job is to try and solve the mystery of people who die without leaving a will or without any next of kin named.

"If that happens and you own anything, it just goes back to the crown if they don't find any next of kin and this unit actually exists, I read about it on a BBC website."
Confessing her fascination with such an occupation, Ruth shared with the BBC hosts her desire to craft a character engaged in this line of work.
In her novel, Ruth unfolds the narrative of her central character, Linda, who embarks on a journey to a secluded Scottish isle to unravel the enigma surrounding the recluse Welshman, Levi.

The One Show host Alex Jones paid tribute to a friend at the start of Thursday's show The One Show host Alex Jones has delivered a heartfelt homage to a "friend" one year after their tragic death. During tonight's (June 5) episode of the popular BBC show, Alex and her colleague Roman Kemp delved into the day's top stories from the UK and beyond. At the start of the episode, Alex shared a touching tribute to Dr Michael Mosley, who died at the age of 67 after going missing while on holiday on the Greek island of Symi last June. "It's been a year since our friend Dr Michael Mosley sadly died. He had a long history with this show and one of his sons, who's also a doctor, shared with us how he hopes to continue his father's legacy," she remarked, reports the Express. A special segment was then aired, with Michael's son, Dr Jack Mosley, explaining how he planned to follow in his father's footsteps. "My dad was so passionate about healthy living, and his infectious enthusiasm was part of what made him so popular," Jack reflected. Discussing the aftermath of his father's death, Jack continued: "It was such a sudden thing when dad did pass away. It has been difficult for my siblings and I, my mum. The only positive I can think to come out of it is it has brought us closer together as a family, and that's something that he would have liked to see." Michael's spouse Clare, also a medic by profession, conveyed how the outpouring of public sympathy has provided her immense solace during this hard time. She then took cameras into the cupboard where Michael used to record his podcast, Just One Thing, and revealed that she "can't quite bring herself" to take down the podcast's poster. Now, Jack has written a book on weight loss medication and food nutrition, called Food Noise. He has worked closely with his mum, who has created over 50 healthy recipes for the book. Jack concluded: "To continue on some of these really important messages about healthy eating and lifestyle changes is something that was very important to my dad. I do want to continue that mission." Back in the BBC studio, Alex reflected: "It's hard to believe it's been a year... Our thoughts, of course, are with the whole family at this time." Beyond his podcast, Michael gained recognition for his roles in several health-focused TV programmes, including Trust Me, I'm A Doctor, The Truth about Exercise, and Lose a Stone in 21 Days.

Las Vegas remains a top choice for Scottish couples eager to say "I do," whether they prefer the charm of Elvis officiants or the spectacle of the Bellagio Fountains. New research from reveals that residents of smaller and medium-sized Scottish towns are more likely to jet off to the 'Marriage Capital of the World' to tie the knot and create lasting memories. Bathgate in West Lothian leads the way, boasting the highest rate of Vegas weddings with 93.22 marriages per 100,000 people over the past decade. It is followed closely by Motherwell with 90.82 marriages per 100,000 and Wishaw at 66.2 per 100,000, Scottish Daily Express reports. A spokesman for explained, 'This figure puts Bathgate ahead of larger cities such as Edinburgh, Glasgow or Inverness. "While larger cities like London and Manchester account for higher total numbers of Las Vegas weddings (1,923 and 642, respectively), the per capita data reveals which smaller towns are proportionally more inclined to elope in America's marriage capital.' The study, conducted by the world's leading guide for online casinos, analysed ten years of marriage licence records from Clark County to uncover which British towns and cities have been heading to Las Vegas for their big day and celebration. Between 2015 and 2024, 2,660 Scottish couples married in Vegas, though numbers dropped sharply during the Covid pandemic in 2020 and 2021. Still, a few determined couples managed to make the trip despite the significant challenges and restrictions. Eagle-eyed viewers spot West Lothian building used as backdrop in BBC series

More info A West Lothian building was used as a backdrop in a hit BBC series. The Bombing of PanAm 103, which concluded earlier this week, told the story of the flight which exploded over Lockerbie on December 21, 1988. It was the worst terror attack to ever happen on British soil, and 270 people were killed - reports the West Lothian Courier. The programme was made by World Productions as part of a collaboration between the BBC and Netflix. A lot of filming has taken place in West Lothian and eagle-eyed viewers may have spotted the Civic Centre which was used as one of the main locations for filming. Emmy award winner, Merritt Wever (New Girl, Nurse Jackie), Patrick J. Adams (from Suits - the most watched series on Netflix in 2023) and Connor Swindells of Barbie fame were all located here for a short while to undertake filming.
