HE Sheikh Bandar bin Mohammed bin Saoud Al Thani, Governor of the Qatar Central Bank, has issued Decision No. (1) of 2025 appointing Sheikh Abdullah bin Hamad bin Mubarak Al Thani as Acting Head of the Financial Information Unit, effective from the date of the decision's issuance.
Sheikh Abdullah bin Hamad bin Mubarak Al Thani brings extensive professional experience. He began his career at the Qatar Media Corporation from 2015 to 2017, then moved to the State Audit Bureau, working as an auditor from 2017 to 2020. He later served as Head of the Internal Audit Units Evaluation Section and Head of the Institutional Performance Audit Section. In January 2023, he was appointed Director of the Performance Audit Department at the State Audit Bureau.
Sheikh Abdullah holds an Executive Master's degree in Public Administration from the Doha Institute for Graduate Studies. He is also a graduate of the 2018 Government Leaders Program from the Qatar Leadership Center and earned a Bachelor's degree in Business Studies from the University of Bedfordshire in the United Kingdom in 2012.

QCB foreign reserves rise 3.28% in July

Doha International reserves and foreign currency liquidity at the Qatar Central Bank rose by 3.28 percent year-on-year in July, reaching QR259.238 billion, compared to QR250.981 billion during the same period last year. Data released today by the Qatar Central Bank showed that official international reserves increased by 3.99% at the end of July, equivalent to QR7.681 billion, reaching QR199.838 billion compared to July 2024. The Bank's holdings of foreign bonds and treasury bills rose by around QR57 million to QR 138.754 billion compared to the same month last year. Official reserves are composed of key components: foreign bonds and treasury bills, cash balances with foreign banks, gold holdings, Special Drawing Rights (SDRs), and Qatar's quota at the International Monetary Fund (IMF). These, combined with other liquid assets (foreign currency deposits), make up what is known as total international reserves. The data also showed that gold reserves increased by about QR13.471 billion to QR44.153 billion by the end of July, compared to QR30.682 billion in July 2024. Similarly, Qatar's SDR deposit holdings at the IMF rose by QR12 million in July 2025 compared to July 2024, reaching QR 5.178 billion. On the other hand, balances with foreign banks declined by around QR5.859 billion to QR11.751 billion at the end of July, compared to the same month in 2024.

Born in Maracaibo, Venezuela, from a Greek mother and an Italian father, Chef Alessandra was surrounded by diverse cultures and food traditions from a young age. She discovered her love for pastry at the age of 12 and has followed that passion ever since. Throughout her career, she has worked in reputable hotels in Greece, the UAE as well as Greece. She represented Greece at the prestigious Valrhona C3 pastry competition in Paris. She has also supported culinary teams in New York and Dubai, learning and growing with each experience. Besides her career in hospitality, Chef Alessandra is also a successful entrepreneur and educator. She founded 'The Cookie Method', an online pastry class and business school that successfully reached many students around the world. Her first cookbook named 'ABC' which was a calendar recipe book, released in 2021, was a success and sold out quickly. She is now working on her second book, which will focus on her favourite treat - cookies. Mentored by world-famous pastry chef Antonio Bachour, Chef Alessandra is known for her beautiful dessert designs and bold flavours, especially while using high-quality cocoa products. Chef Alessandra is excited to explore local flavours and ingredients, combining them with her personal style to create new and exciting desserts for hotel guests and visitors. 'It is an honour to be part of Waldorf Astoria Doha West Bay,' said Chef Alessandra. 'Qatar has a warm and rich culture that inspires me. Tribune News Network Doha The Qatar Goodwood Festival presented by Visit Qatar concluded after a week of outstanding racing, cultural celebration, and strategic dialogue, further reinforcing Qatar's commitment to international sporting excellence and bilateral cooperation with the United Kingdom. Among the racing highlights was the Qatar International Stakes (Group 1 – Purebred Arabian) held on July 30th where Al Ghadeer delivered a dominant performance to take the win. In the presence of President of the Qatar Olympic Committee and Chairman of the Doha 2036 Olympic and Paralympic Games Bid, Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani, the trophies were presented by Chairman of Qatar Tourism and Chair of Board of Directors of Visit Qatar, Saad Bin Ali Al Kharji; and CEO of Visit Qatar, Eng. Abdulaziz Ali Al Mawlawi. The festival also hosted the Group 1 the Qatar Nassau Stakes held on July 31st which brought together a competitive field of 22 elite fillies over the 1m2f distance. The race ended in a thrilling finish, with Whirl securing first place. The trophy was presented by Eng. Abdulaziz Ali Al Mawlawi, CEO of Visit Qatar, accompanied by Ali Turki AlSobai of Education Above All Foundation. Visit Qatar's exclusive naming and ownership rights across five key races served to spotlight the country's rich equestrian heritage and its positioning as a global destination for world-class events. As the week progressed, the energy continued with the King George Qatar Stakes and a fitting finale with the Qatar Lillie Langtry Stakes, bringing the curtain down on a remarkable programme. As the Festival concludes, Qatar's presence at Goodwood leaves a lasting impression from the winner's circle to the broader celebration of culture and sport demonstrating the country's integrated approach to international engagement.
