PJP Project Sees Heavy Inflows; Spillway Gates Open as Reservoir Nears Full Level
Inflow and Outflow Dynamics:
The dam is receiving an inflow of 1,22,000 cusecs, a significant surge attributed to upstream rainfall and increased river catchment flow. To manage the incoming water and maintain reservoir safety levels, authorities have released 94,878 cusecs through the spillway, utilizing the 14 spillway gates of the dam.
In addition to spillway discharges, the PJP powerhouse is generating hydroelectric power by releasing 28,658 cusecs through turbines. The overall total outflow from the dam is reported at 1,26,365 cusecs, slightly exceeding the inflow rate to ensure water level stabilization.
Lift Irrigation and Canal Utilization:
Bhima Lift-I has drawn 1,300 cusecs, while Koilsagar Lift has drawn 315 cusecs for irrigation and drinking purposes.
The Nettampadu Lift Scheme and Bhima Lift-II have reported no current drawals.
Left Main Canal (LMC) and Right Main Canal (RMC) drawals are 770 cusecs and 400 cusecs respectively.
This includes 150 cusecs through the RDS Link Canal.
Parallel Canal drawal is nil, indicating it is currently not in use.
Other drawals from the reservoir are reported to be nil, implying focused and controlled water distribution.
Additional Observations:
Evaporation losses have been minimal, at 44 cusecs, thanks to recent cloudy and rainy weather.
Authorities are closely monitoring the situation to ensure safety and optimal water management, given that the water level is nearing the full reservoir mark.

‘Wrong' weather forecast: many schools give a miss to celebrations
Independence Day celebrations in schools – students dressed in whites with hues of the Tricolour, attending the school assembly, and participating in cultural and literary activities – on Friday were low-key events or nearly absent, thanks to the forecast of very heavy rainfall during the week. While some school teachers alerted parents that their wards can attend the flag hoisting ceremony in regular school uniform, others sent instructions not to come to the school and watch the live telecast of flag hoisting at Red Fort. While some schools did ask the students to come to the school, the celebration was limited to flag hoisting, and in some cases minimum events were held indoors. Contrary to the serious weather forecast by IMD and some self-proclaimed experts, which went wrong, Hyderabad received moderate overnight showers on Monday, brief spell of about 4 cm rainfall on Tuesday, and light rain and drizzle on Wednesday and Thursday, as against orange and yellow alert. In reality, for many schools, the holiday lasted a week - starting Tuesday and ending Sunday.

Pilgrim city gears up for I-Day fete
Tirupati: The pilgrim city is gearing up for the 79th Independence Day on a grand scale. Municipal Corporation Commissioner along with TUDA, Revenue and police officials inspected SV University Stadium where the celebrations will be held. Due to incessant rains, the police parade ground where the I-Day celebrations will be held every year was water-logged forcing the authorities to shift the venue to SV University Stadium this year. Commissioner directed the officials to provide galleries for separate seating for VIPs, senior officials, freedom fighters, awardees and public who are participating to witness the Independence Day celebrations. She also wanted to set up an exhibition with the involvement of various departments showcasing their achievements. DRO Narasimhulu, TUDA EE Raveendra, ME Thulasi Kumar, Health Officer Dr Yuva Anvesh Reddy and DE Mahesh were present.
