Man charged in shooting of Lee's Summit police officer
Jackson County Prosecutor Melesa Johnson announced Monday afternoon that Thomas E. Tolbert has been charged with first-degree assault, second-degree domestic assault, armed criminal action, unlawful possession of a firearm and resisting arrest.

The officer remains in 'serious condition' as law enforcement agencies continue to search for Tolbert.
A was issued in Missouri and Kansas for Tolbert, after he ran from officers following the shooting and then left in a car, police said. The car was recovered in Grandview.
According to court records, Lee's Summit police responded to an apartment complex late Sunday night near Southwest Hollywood Drive and Highway 150 regarding Tolbert, who investigators say was involved in a domestic assault with the victim.
When an officer approached the suspect in the parking lot of the complex and attempted to detain him, Tolbert broke away and began running on foot, with the officer running after him.
Tolbert then began to fire multiple gunshots at the officer, striking him four times, according to court documents.
Court records say the officer was hit in the leg, left arm, chest of his body armor and his shoulder.
Investigators are working with law enforcement partners to track down Tolbert. According to the LSPD, there is no danger to the public at this time.

A Cuyahoga County jury this week acquitted Antoine "Fahiem" Tolbert and two fellow members of the grassroots activist organization New Era Cleveland on a slew of felony charges. The big picture: The resounding not guilty verdict closes out a lengthy trial that sparked citywide debate over race, activism, and the right to self-police. Funeral services announced for fallen Wyandotte County Deputy Elijah Ming
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Funeral services have been announced for fallen Wyandotte County Sheriff's Deputy Elijah Ming, who was shot and killed in Kansas City, Kansas, while responding to a call on July 26. Ming's funeral will take place at 11 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 11, at Children's Mercy Park. At a community vigil last week, Ming was remembered as a father, college baseball player and wrestling coach. Remembered for his smile and being the same person out of uniform who served his community with honor, integrity and pride. Court records say that on Saturday, July 26, law enforcement received a call from a woman asking officers to accompany her as she moved out of her home, located near South 30th Street and Shawnee Drive, due to safety concerns. She told investigators that she tried to move items out of the home previously with her friends, but a man, later identified as Harris, had threatened her with a gun. According to investigators, Ming and a Kansas City, Kansas, police officer were called to the scene on reports of a 'civil standby.' They arrived at about 3:30 p.m. When they approached the front door, investigators say a man, identified as 38-year-old Shawn Harris, shot at the officers multiple times from inside the house. The KCKPD officer was uninjured; however, Ming was struck by gunfire. He was later taken to a hospital, where he died from his injuries. Following the shooting, the suspect barricaded himself inside the house for several hours. At some point during the standoff, gunfire was exchanged between him and responding law enforcement agents, resulting in Harris being shot. The Wyandotte County District Attorney has charged Harris with one count of capital murder and one count of criminal possession of a weapon by a felon. Harris is held on a $2 million bond.
