Tripura man sentenced to 20 years in jail for raping minor stepdaughter

Indian Express5 hours ago

A Tripura court on Wednesday handed out 20 years' imprisonment to a man who raped his minor stepdaughter. He was also ordered to pay a penalty of Rs 5,000, failing which he will have to serve an additional jail term of two months.
Government counsel Ashmita Banik said the incident occurred in West Tripura district in August 2023. 'Though her mother was supposed to support her in this condition, she fled with her (rape-survivor's) stepfather. The minor's elder sister, who lives in South Tripura district, came to know about the incident and filed a complaint,' said the counsel.
The minor rape survivor is living at a shelter home.
Her stepfather was found guilty by the court under section 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act and Indian Penal Code sections 376 (rape) and 506 (criminal intimidation). The court examined 19 witnesses during the trial.
The court also ordered that the rape survivor be paid compensation under section 357 of the Code of Criminal Procedure.

Kutch businessman loses Rs 3cr in imported machines deal

Rajkot: A deal with an acquaintance to import a special machine used in urea production led to an expensive setback for a businessman from Gandhidham town of Kutch after he lost nearly Rs three crore. Pranav Agrawal lodged a complaint against Ramratan Agrawal, a resident of Hyderabad's Banjara Hills of defrauding him of Rs 2.93 crore, part of a larger Rs 7.5 crore deal involving the procurement of 23 Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) machines from Egypt. The two had first met at a family function in 2015, and in early 2024, their professional engagement began. During a meeting in Hyderabad, Ramratan claimed he could arrange DEF machines from abroad. Trusting him, Pranav transferred Rs 7.5 crore to Ramratan's company account between Jan 11 and Feb 12, 2024. However, only Rs 4.56 crore was returned between March 2024 and May 2025, with Ramratan assuring that the remaining amount would be cleared by delivery of eight machines. Despite repeated promises, neither the machines were delivered nor was the balance refunded. Pranav filed a complaint with the Gandhidham City 'A' Division Police Station

Surat: A 29-year-old software engineer, was duped out of Rs 19.91 lakh by cybercriminals using the 'digital arrest' modus operandi. The accused — while pretending to be members of Mumbai Police, the ED, NCRB and the RBI — threatened her saying drugs had been found in a parcel she sent to Iran. They made her sequester herself for four hours, during which they got her to take an instant personal loan and send them the funds. Surat cybercrime police registered a complaint and started an investigation. According to the FIR filed by the software engineer, she has been working for a private company for the last two years, while her husband is an engineer working in Hazira. On Nov 28, while she was at her home in the Rander area, she got a call from a person claiming to be from the courier company FedEx. This person told her that drugs had been found in a parcel she sent to Iran. He told her her Aadhaar number and mobile number had been used to send the parcel. He then transferred the call to the 'Mumbai crime branch'. A man who said he was Mumbai crime branch inspector Pradip Sawant sent her a Skype link, to 'investigate' her. Sawant sent her letters bearing the emblems of Mumbai Police, the Enforcement Directorate, the Reserve Bank of India and other agencies, to get her to cooperate. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch CFD với công nghệ và tốc độ tốt hơn IC Markets Đăng ký Undo The accused got her to give them her ICICI bank account details.
