Suriya will next be seen in the Tamil action-thriller film, Karuppu. The first look from the film was unveiled today, June 20. Though only the actor's silhouette was visible in the poster, the striking red background is enough to give you the chills.
The poster for Karuppu is visually intense, immersed in a striking blood-red hue, setting a powerful and ominous tone. At the center is actor Suriya, silhouetted against the red mist, holding a large machete in a commanding pose. His stance conveys confrontation, strength, and possibly vengeance. Surrounding him are religious and ritualistic elements like tridents (trishuls) and towering statues, hinting at a deeper mythological or spiritual layer to the narrative.
The smoke-filled background adds to the mystical atmosphere, while the title Karuppu, meaning 'black' in Tamil, is boldly displayed in sharp red typography, suggesting themes of darkness, intensity, and moral complexity. Dropping the poster, Suriya tagged the film's writer-director RJ Balaji, and wrote, 'Here's our #Karuppu for you..! Wishing you all happiness @RJ_Balaji (sic)."
Karuppu, starring Suriya in the lead, is produced by Dream Warrior Pictures and written and directed by RJB, with cinematography by GK Vishnu and music by Sai Abhyankar. Given RJ Balaji's previous successes like Mookuthi Amman and Veetla Visesham, expectations are high that the film will strike a balance between good content with a mass appeal. It is planned for release this October during Diwali.

The Fast and Furious series may be racing toward a big finish. Actor-rapper Ludacris , during a recent event in Los Angeles, spoke to PEOPLE about his upcoming projects, including what could be his final ride in the long-running action series. Ludacris, whose real name is Christopher Bridges, confirmed he's working on one more Fast and Furious movie, which is expected to mark the franchise's 25th anniversary in 2026. The first Fast and Furious film was released in June 2001. "One more Fast and Furious because it's the 25-year anniversary," the 47-year-old star said. "So those are the two big things right now... But that whole 25-year anniversary is definitely a big deal," he added. Ludacris joined the series in 2 Fast 2 Furious in 2003, where he played Tej Parker. He most recently appeared in Fast X, which came out in 2023 and made over \$700 million worldwide, according to PEOPLE. Earlier in 2024, the actor spoke to PEOPLE about the future of the franchise, saying, "A lot of other franchises, they may end, but they don't really end... It's almost like the beginning of something new, so I don't feel like it'll ever truly end either, but you never know." by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Free P2,000 GCash eGift UnionBank Credit Card Apply Now Undo In the same interview in 2024, the rapper hinted at the fact that Fast X might not be the last movie. "The last one was open-ended, so to speak. It kind of left people hanging," he told PEOPLE. "I feel like we are definitely going to come back at some point very soon to surprise everyone. Will it be the last? I don't know, but we shall see." The franchise, known for its action-packed car chases and focus on family, also stars Vin Diesel , Michelle Rodriguez , Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, and Dwayne Johnson. The late Paul Walker was also a key part of the series. Vin Diesel has previously said the next film, Fast X: Part 2, will be the final chapter. He called it a "celebration of the incredible family we've built together." "This grand finale is not just an ending; it's a celebration of the incredible family we've built together," he wrote on Instagram at the time. An official release date for Fast X: Part 2 has not been announced.

Ten days, ten stories come alive on stage

In a city where sabhas are synonymous with iyal (literature), isai (music) and nadagam (drama), Krishna Gana Sabha keeps the tradition of theatre alive every year with its Summer Drama Fest. For ten days, the sabha's stage becomes a canvas for laughter, nostalgia, and hard truths. As the 2025 edition unveiled on June 26, the stage once again became the meeting ground for veteran drama troupes sharpening their skills to meet the new-age audience. 'The drama fest was initially started in 1960. It's been over sixty years. It was my father (R Yagnaraman) who was the pioneer of Krishna Gana Sabha and this drama fest as well,' says Y Prabhu, general secretary of Krishna Gana Sabha. 'The intent was to provide a platform for Tamil theatre artistes to exhibit their talents.' Various well-known veteran drama troupes including, actor Sivaji Ganesan troupe, actor Nagesh troupe, actress Manorama troupe, actor Mouli troupe among others have been part of this drama fest in the 90s. Notably, keeping up the legacy of late actor-comedian Crazy Mohan, his troupe, Crazy Creations have been performing continuously at the fest.
