Defeat for Carlos Alcaraz and Emma Raducanu in revamped US Open mixed doubles
British number one men's player Draper and American partner Pegula overcame men's world number two Alcaraz and top-ranked British woman Raducanu 4-2 4-2 in 51 minutes to reach the quarter-finals.
Raducanu lost her serve in the opening game and although there were no further break points in the set, that was enough for Draper and Pegula to clinch it.
Alcaraz and Raducanu opened up a 1-0 lead in the second set but were broken again to fall 2-1 behind and Draper demonstrated his accuracy and power to hold his own serve to edge 3-1 ahead.
Raducanu saved three break points before holding to cut the deficit to 3-2, but Draper sealed victory on the third match point in the next game with a stunning forehand down the line.
The mixed doubles has come under the spotlight at Flushing Meadows after being rescheduled to start before the main tournament, with $1million (€859,000) in prize money at stake for the winners of the 16-pair event.

But I watch every single game on Rams TV for my sins sometimes, but I've been up early across the planet to watch the Rams. Won't miss a game." Horan also paid tribute to Derby manager John Eustace, who he believes is arguably the best manager in the EFL Championship. "I love John, I think John Eustace is one of the best, if not the best, manager in the league," he continued. '[He's] one of the greatest British managers flying around. He's proving himself everywhere. He kept us up last season. He just needs to accumulate this team and make them look good. We've got a lot of injuries obviously, but today we were just sloppy. 'I'm sure I won't be the only person to say that. We were all over the place. We didn't look energised, we didn't look like we could win a second ball. It was just very, very frustrating, but not a crazy day to be a Derby County fan. We've seen this before, and we'll be here again."

And two years on from missing the Wimbledon final, Shields went AWOL after the 1933 French Open. Amazingly he was later discovered at sea, armed with nothing but the tuxedo on his back. Hart wrote of the episode: "He had accompanied some friends on the boat train to Le Havre, a party all the way, and woke up at sea on the Warren Harding with no money, only his tuxedo." Shields struggled with alcohol in his latter years and he eventually died in 1975 aged 65, sadly succumbing to a third heart attack. His legacy is a complex one, but Shields will forever remain one of the most intriguing stars in American tennis history.
