Gaza journalist ready to sell equipment, press shield to buy food; social media calls it ‘heartbreaking'
Medical professionals and journalists, too, are facing the same fate.
In light of this crisis, a photojournalist from Gaza shared a heartbreaking LinkedIn post alongside a picture of his camera, lens and press shield.
The photojournalist, Mohammed Abo Oun, said he was ready to sell everything that made him a journalist to buy food for his family.
Oun has been covering Gaza, and his work has been featured in global publications such as The New York Times, Sky News, and ABC News.
'I am the photojournalist Mohammed Abu Aoun from Gaza, I want to offer my equipment and the press shield for sale so that I can buy food for me and my family,' he wrote.
Social media users have deemed this viral post as the most heartbreaking one.
'This is heartbreaking,' said a user.
Another added: 'May God grant you victory and relieve your worries.'
The United Nations and experts have claimed that Palestinians in Gaza are at risk of famine, with reports of increasing numbers of people dying from causes related to malnutrition.
Israel, on the other hand, said that hundreds of truckloads of aid are waiting at the border for the UN to distribute in Gaza.
On Thursday, Israel's military took journalists to the Gaza side of the Kerem Shalom crossing, where hundreds of boxes of aid were on pallets filling a lot.
According to the World Food Programme, almost a third of people in Gaza have not eaten for days.
According to AFP, the UN agency said that around 470,000 people were expected to face "catastrophic hunger'.
Several countries, including Mexico, Germany, the UK, and France, have called for an end to the war and an immediate ceasefire.
'The time has come to end the war in Gaza,' said German Chancellor Friedrich Merz in a post on social media platform X on Friday.
'We - France, the United Kingdom and Germany - urge all parties to bring an end to the conflict by reaching an immediate ceasefire,' he added.
Earlier, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum condemned the war and said, 'Mexico is putting all its words and actions into building peace.'
US President Donald Trump has, however, blamed Hamas for the breakdown of Gaza ceasefire talks, signalling support for Israel to escalate its military campaign, according to CNN.
'I think they want to die, and it's very, very bad,' Trump said of Hamas while speaking to reporters before departing for a weekend trip to Scotland.
'It got to a point where you're gonna have to finish the job.'

Netherlands bars two hardline Israeli ministers
Ben Gvir, Smotrich (AP file photos) The Netherlands has declared Israel's finance and national security ministers persona non grata for inciting violence and urging ethnic cleansing in Gaza. In June, the Netherlands backed a failed Swedish proposal to impose EU sanctions on Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich and National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir. "They repeatedly incited settler violence against Palestinians, promoted illegal settlement expansion, and called for ethnic cleansing in Gaza," Dutch Foreign Minister Caspar Veldkamp told parliament in a letter released late Monday. Smotrich responded on X, saying European leaders had succumbed to "the lies of radical Islam that is taking over" and "rising antisemitism". Ben-Gvir said he would continue to act for Israel, even if he was banned from entering "all of Europe". "In a place where terrorism is tolerated and terrorists are welcomed, a Jewish minister from Israel is unwanted, terrorists are free, and Jews are boycotted," he wrote on X. Veldkamp said the Netherlands wanted to "relieve the suffering of the population in Gaza" and was exploring further ways to contribute to humanitarian aid. "Airdrops of food are relatively expensive and risky," he said. "This is why the Netherlands is also taking steps to further support land-based aid delivery." Aid drops resumed in Gaza on Sunday as Israel announced temporary humanitarian pauses in parts of the besieged territory. Around 2.4 million Palestinians in Gaza are facing what UN aid agencies have warned is a deadly wave of starvation and malnutrition. The UN-backed Integrated Food Security Phase Classification Initiative (IPC) said on Tuesday that famine is unfolding across much of Gaza, with thresholds breached and over 20,000 children treated for acute malnutrition since April. Veldkamp said the Netherlands would push to suspend the trade element of the EU-Israel Association Agreement if Israel fails to meet its humanitarian obligations. "The summons will also be used to remind Israel to comply with its obligations under international humanitarian law," he said. After speaking by phone with Israeli President Isaac Herzog, Dutch Prime Minister Dick Schoof said the government's position was "crystal clear". "The people of Gaza must be given immediate, unfettered, safe access to humanitarian aid," he said. Israel's Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar said he had held a formal reprimand with the Dutch ambassador Marriet Schuurman in Jerusalem on Tuesday afternoon. He said he told her that the Dutch government's policy towards Israel "fuels antisemitism in the Netherlands". "I said that Israel will not surrender to jihadist forces and, on this occasion, wished the Netherlands success in its future confrontation with radical Islamist elements that have established themselves in its territory," he said on X. "The Netherlands' intention to bring about a change in Israeli policy by applying pressure on it -- is rejected outright and doomed to fail." The war in Gaza was sparked by Hamas's October 7, 2023 attack on Israel, which resulted in the deaths of 1,219 people, most of them civilians, according to an AFP tally based on official figures. Israel's retaliatory campaign has killed 59,921 Palestinians, also mostly civilians, according to the health ministry in the Hamas-run territory.

Centre encroaching on rights of states under guise of NEP: Punjab minister Bains
New Delhi, Jul 29 (PTI) Punjab's education minister Harjot Singh Bains on Tuesday alleged that the central government was 'encroaching" on the rights of states through the new education policy. Addressing the Akhil Bhartiya Shiksha Samagam organised by the Union Ministry of Education at Bharat Mandapam here, he said as education is a concurrent subject between the Centre and the states, the central government is overpowering the state authority through its new education policy. The minister highlighted that despite Punjabi being one of the 22 scheduled languages under the Constitution and being widely spoken and studied in several states other than Punjab, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) had initially included it as an optional subject alongside languages like Thai, German and Mandarin. He said that it was only after the Punjab government registered its strong protest that Punjabi was included as a main subject. He said that the Centre has maintained that the NEP would promote regional languages, but contrary to these claims, the Centre placed the regional languages under the category of optional subjects, which is undermining the status of regional languages. According to a state government statement, the minister said that the Punjab government has already announced the framing of its own education policy and it will be ready soon. He said that the state will not tolerate any steps of the Centre that 'undermine Punjab, Punjabiyat and Punjabi language under the guise of the NEP". The minister highlighted that students from government schools in Punjab are excelling at the national level in various fields of education and competitive exams, bringing pride to the state, the statement said Bains said that during this event, there was no discussion on the tragic collapse of a school building in Rajasthan and even a two-minute silence was not observed on the death of innocent children, 'which is very unfortunate". He said that in this conference, important issues like mid-day meal, slary hike for workers and increasing the funds for school uniforms were not discussed. He said new methods of education, blockchain, artificial intelligence, digital learning and other issues were not even touched.
