Mock drills held at multiple locations in Manipur
Imphal, May 7 (UNI) A state-level Mock Drill under the provision of Section 19 of the Civil Defence Rules, 1968, Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, titled 'Operation Abhyaas' was conducted on Wednesday.
The drill was conducted at multiple locations including Johnston Higher Secondary School, the State Museum, BT Park, Polo Ground (Mapal Kangjeibung), and the Directorate of Fire Service.
The mock drill was conducted across the 244 categorized civil Defence Districts of the Country. For Manipur, the drill was held in Imphal, Tengnoupal, Churachandpur, Ukhrul and Bishnupur districts.
Imphal West Deputy Commissioner Mayanglambam Rajkumar Singh conducted both pre- and post-media briefings related to the mock drill held earlier. During his address, he urged the general public to remain calm, composed, and resilient when faced with hostile situations or unforeseen emergencies, as well as in their daily lives.
The Deputy Commissioner extended his appreciation to all stakeholders for their cooperation during the exercise and emphasized the importance of continuous awareness and preparedness. He also called for sustained collaboration among all parties to effectively manage and respond to such eventualities in the future.
The drill simulated the scenario of an air raid and was jointly carried out by the Fire Department, State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Health Department, Manipur State Power Distribution Company Limited (MSPDCL), Civil Defence, educational institutions, the State Museum and the Directorate of Information & Public Relations (DIPR).
The exercise featured air raid warning sirens, public address announcements by the police, fire engine sirens, blackout protocols, and rescue operations. It included search and rescue efforts, evacuation of civilians from affected areas, casualty evacuation from damaged structures, the setup of temporary medical facilities, and relocation of civilians to bunkers.
Civilians were also trained in basic civil defence techniques to enhance preparedness in the event of a hostile attack. The primary objective of 'Operation Abhyaas' was to evaluate and strengthen the state's emergency response capabilities during air raid scenarios.
Dignitaries, officials, staff members, personnel, students from various directorates, universities, colleges, schools, NCC cadets, and other stakeholders actively participated in and extended their full cooperation during today's mock drill.
As part of the drill, the Deputy Commissioner also sought and considered feedback and opinions from the participating stakeholders.

Sri Lankan Army commander in India to boost defence ties
New Delhi, June 11 (UNI) Commander of the Sri Lanka Army Lieutenant General BKGM Lasantha Rodrigo arrived here on Wednesday on a four-day official visit aimed at enhancing bilateral military cooperation. This visit is set to enhance bilateral military cooperation and explore new avenues for collaboration, particularly in the areas of training and capability enhancement, a Defence Ministry statement said. It underscores the continued efforts of both nations to further strengthen and deepen their longstanding defence partnership. Later, he was briefed on Operation Sindoor and India's security perspective. He was also briefed by other senior officers of the Indian Army on matters of mutual interest. Lt Gen Rodrigo met with Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi, Chief of the Naval Staff, Air Chief Marshal Amar Preet Singh, Chief of Air Staff and Rajesh Kumar Singh, Defence Secretary. These meetings provided an opportunity for the exchange of views on broader defence and security issues, focusing on matters of mutual interests. He also planted a tree at the Manekshaw Centre, symbolising time-tested relation of Indian and Sri Lanka Army. On June 12, Lt Gen Rodrigo will visit Jaipur and meet Lt Gen Manjinder Singh, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, South Western Command. The General Officer will grace the Passing Out Parade at the Indian Military Academy (IMA), Dehradun, as the Reviewing Officer on June 14. This visit will mark a poignant return to his alma mater, where he was commissioned in December 1990, with the 87th Course of the IMA-an experience that laid the foundation of his illustrious military career. His presence at the Academy will rekindle memories of his formative years, now brought full circle as he would review a new generation of officers. Adding a personal and emotional dimension to the ceremony, Brigadier RMSP Rathnayake of Sri Lanka Army, will also be in attendance to witness his son, Foreign Officer Cadet RMNL Rathnayake, being commissioned with the current course. This confluence of legacy and leadership underscores the enduring spirit of camaraderie and leadership connect between the two Armies. Odisha CM claims his govt turned promises into reality in one year
Bhubaneswar, June 11 (UNI) Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Wednesday claimed that his government has successfully turned the promises made to the people into reality within a year. Inaugurating the State-level Vikas Mela 2025 in Bhubaneswar to mark one year of the state government, Majhi said that the past year has been full of challenges. 'During this time, we have achieved remarkable success in various fields and have fulfilled the promises made to the people,' he said. 'Our promises are not mere words; they are commitments carved in stone. We have made promises and we have kept them,' he remarked. Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister said that a year ago, the people of the state changed the administration with new hopes and aspirations, entrusting the government with the responsibility to deliver. 'We are working with a strong commitment to fulfill those hopes and aspirations,' he added. Majhi said that in the past year, he has visited all the districts of Odisha, spoken to the people, and reviewed various development works. He emphasized that a firm stance has been taken to fight corruption. 'Look at the record of the past year: from a peon to an IAS officer, no corrupt official has been spared,' he asserted. Highlighting the progress made, the Chief Minister said that due to the government's strong will and commitment, almost all major promises made to the people have been successfully implemented. He mentioned that through the Kisan Kalyan Yojana, the annual income of every farmer family in the state has increased by at least Rs.30,000. Odisha CM announces Rs 10L assistance to family of communal clash victim
East Bhubaneswar, June 11 (UNI) Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Wednesday announced Rs.10 lakh assistance to the next of kin of a youth who died following a communal clash. The youth, identified as Santosh Parida, was seriously injured during a communal clash that broke out between two communities in Bhadrak under the Tihidi police station jurisdiction a few days ago. He died on Wednesday while undergoing treatment. The Chief Minister expressed deep grief over the incident and said that strict action will be taken against the culprits as per the law, and justice will be provided to the family of the deceased.
