A loud roar for big cats on Tiger Day
1 2 Lucknow: Face painting event marked an awareness programme on World Tiger Day, organised by State Museum in the city on Tuesday. The event highlighted that India's national animal, tiger, remained in the endangered category despite conservation efforts. Currently, India maintains 50 tiger reserves across the country. State culture minister Jaiveer Singh was the chief guest at the event, directed by Srishti Dhawan, director of the State Museum. Along with face painting sessions, informative leaflets highlighting Govt of India's tiger conservation initiatives were distributed. Nawab Wajid Ali Shah Zoological Park celebrated India's success in doubling its tiger population ahead of global targets. Minister of state (Independent Charge) for forest, environment and climate change, Arun Kumar Saxena, highlighted this year's theme 'Human Tiger Co-existence'. The event began with a conservation-themed marathon in which 100 students from Lucknow Public School participated, followed by inauguration of 'Bagh Express,' a new rescue vehicle donated by Astle Foundation. A street play on tiger conservation and documentary by Pilibhit Tiger Reserve were also exhibited during the ceremony. Principal secretary Anil Kumar noted that UP's four tiger reserves demonstrated successful conservation efforts, with tiger numbers nearly doubling in past 15 years. Zoo director Aditi Sharma and assisstant director Utkarsh Shukla were also present on the occasion.

Digital library, vintage café and more in store for State Museum visitors
Visitors to the State Museum in the state capital will soon have access to a digital library offering research materials and reference books, to be set up in the Old Kothi building located behind the museum on the Lucknow Zoo premises. The auditorium conceptualised after renovation. (Sourced) Complementing the library, a vintage-themed café will be developed nearby, allowing readers to enjoy a cup of coffee while they browse. 'The work for both library and café is set to begin soon and is expected to be completed in a couple of years' time at a cost of ₹ 4.87 crore. The vintage café will showcase Lucknow's heritage and culture. Besides, the rich reserve collection in the museum will also be revamped at a cost of ₹ 4.85 crore. Once renovated, the objects will be tagged in such a way that one can find them at the click of a button. The process will be completed within two years,' museum director Srishti Dhaon said. Several other upgrades have also been planned at the State Museum to provide a better experience for visitors by the end of July. Among them is the transformation of the existing Foreign Art Gallery into an open gallery. The 23 stone sculptures preserved in the indoor gallery will be showcased in landscaped gardens where visitors can sit and view them at leisure. The work of making pedestals and garden landscaping in the Foreign Art Open Gallery is being carried out at a cost of ₹ 1.59 crore. Besides, the Folk Art Museum is also undergoing an infrastructural upgrade for ₹ 3.03 crore, Dhaon said. She said that the museum is also set to receive a revamped auditorium with a seating capacity of 120 people at a time. 'The work to renovate the auditorium by including all modern technology like Dolby Atmos sound and projector is underway at a cost of ₹ 1.72 crore. It will be in the form of a proscenium,' she added. The museum is also set to receive a new augmented reality and virtual reality room where the visitors will be able to watch documentaries like the origin of Ganges, story of Kumbh, and virtual tours of Mathura, Jhansi, Gorakhpur, Kushinagar and State Museum. 'The 360-degree view of the museum will also be available on the official website by the end of July. These developments are being carried out with the support of culture minister Jaiveer Singh and principal secretary Mukesh Meshram,' Dhaon said.

Mock drills held at multiple locations in Manipur
Imphal, May 7 (UNI) A state-level Mock Drill under the provision of Section 19 of the Civil Defence Rules, 1968, Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, titled 'Operation Abhyaas' was conducted on Wednesday. The drill was conducted at multiple locations including Johnston Higher Secondary School, the State Museum, BT Park, Polo Ground (Mapal Kangjeibung), and the Directorate of Fire Service. The mock drill was conducted across the 244 categorized civil Defence Districts of the Country. For Manipur, the drill was held in Imphal, Tengnoupal, Churachandpur, Ukhrul and Bishnupur districts. Imphal West Deputy Commissioner Mayanglambam Rajkumar Singh conducted both pre- and post-media briefings related to the mock drill held earlier. During his address, he urged the general public to remain calm, composed, and resilient when faced with hostile situations or unforeseen emergencies, as well as in their daily lives. The Deputy Commissioner extended his appreciation to all stakeholders for their cooperation during the exercise and emphasized the importance of continuous awareness and preparedness. He also called for sustained collaboration among all parties to effectively manage and respond to such eventualities in the future. The drill simulated the scenario of an air raid and was jointly carried out by the Fire Department, State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Health Department, Manipur State Power Distribution Company Limited (MSPDCL), Civil Defence, educational institutions, the State Museum and the Directorate of Information & Public Relations (DIPR). The exercise featured air raid warning sirens, public address announcements by the police, fire engine sirens, blackout protocols, and rescue operations. It included search and rescue efforts, evacuation of civilians from affected areas, casualty evacuation from damaged structures, the setup of temporary medical facilities, and relocation of civilians to bunkers. Civilians were also trained in basic civil defence techniques to enhance preparedness in the event of a hostile attack. The primary objective of 'Operation Abhyaas' was to evaluate and strengthen the state's emergency response capabilities during air raid scenarios. Dignitaries, officials, staff members, personnel, students from various directorates, universities, colleges, schools, NCC cadets, and other stakeholders actively participated in and extended their full cooperation during today's mock drill. Lucknow: Quiz contest and photo exhibition were organised by State Museum, Lucknow to commemorate the World Heritage Day at Govt Inter College and Universal Public School on Tuesday. The programme was organised with the aim of preserving, promoting and making new generation aware of historical heritage and culture. Students were introduced to various aspects of art and culture through a photo exhibition of artifacts collected in the State Museum and were invited to visit the museum. Participants were made aware of importance of heritage conservation . As many as 104 students participated in the quiz competition organised in Govt Inter College. Students made beautiful pictures of historical monuments, heritage sites and protected monuments. Around 50 students participated in the quiz, organised in Universal Public School. Prizes were given to select students and certificates to all participants.
