Three bogus police officers arrested in Pretoria for blue light robberies
Police said three bogus police officers were arrested on Thursday morning for blue light robberies in Pretoria.
Spokesperson Captain Johan van Dyk said the arrests were made at about 07:30 on Thursday morning.
'Members of Boschkop SAPS, in collaboration with Echo 1 Security and the Boschkop Community Policing Forum (CPF), intercepted a white Toyota Hilux GD6 double-cab bakkie on the R104. Three male suspects were arrested on the scene following intensive intelligence-driven and surveillance operations.'
Van Dyk said the arrests follow a series of armed robberies in which criminals posed as police officers, using blue lights to pull over unsuspecting motorists before robbing them at gunpoint.
'The identified vehicle had been linked through surveillance footage and community intelligence to multiple incidents of this nature in the Boschkop policing area.'
He furhtermore said during the arrest, the suspects were found in possession of an unlicensed firearm, unlicensed ammunition, a blue light and Police uniform.
'All three suspects have been charged with armed robbery, possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition. The vehicle has also been positively linked to similar cases in the Cullinan and Bronkhorstspruit policing areas.'
Major-General Samuel Thine commended all role players involved for their dedication, swift action, and teamwork in ensuring the safety of the community.
'These arrests are a result of committed partnerships between SAPS, private security, and community structures. We remain steadfast in our mission to restore safety and trust in our communities,' he said.

Pretoria man sentenced for rape of 11-year-old with Down syndrome The Pretoria Magistrates' Court handed down a life sentence to a 32-year-old man found guilty of raping an 11-year-old girl with Down syndrome. 'The residents called the police, and Masoka was arrested on the scene that day. The state successfully opposed his bail, and he has remained in custody since,' Mahanjana said. In court, Masoka pleaded not guilty, denying the rape, and claiming the minor was his girlfriend, they had consensual sex and said he thought that the victim was 17 years old. However, Prosecutor Andries Ntjana presented evidence from a medical doctor and psychiatrist, who proved that the child could not consent. During sentencing, Masoka requested leniency, referring to his three children and wife, whom he supports. Ntjana opposed this, saying Masoka lacked remorse, as he continued to maintain his innocence even after conviction. Magistrate Lynn Pillay found no substantial or compelling circumstances to deviate from the prescribed minimum sentence, deeming life imprisonment appropriate. 'This ruling reaffirms the NPA's unwavering commitment to delivering justice for the most vulnerable members of our society, particularly children with special needs who are often targeted due to their dependence and trust. 'The court's decision to impose the prescribed minimum sentence, despite the accused's pleas for leniency, underscores our resolute stance that no one is above the law, especially when it comes to gender-based violence (GBV) against defenceless victims.' Man arrested in Limpopo days after brutal murder of Gauteng woman A 36-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the brutal murder of a missing woman from Eersterust, east of Pretoria city centre. According to Pretoria Rekord, the woman's body was discovered on Thursday, partially buried in an open field, just weeks after she was reported missing. Gauteng police spokesperson Captain Johan van Dyk says a dedicated five-member investigation team was established to pursue the case. 'The team immediately began following leads and gathering crucial information to piece together the events surrounding the murder.' He adds that as the investigation progressed, a possible suspect was identified. 'Information received indicated that the suspect had travelled to Polokwane. Acting swiftly, the team traced the suspect to a residence in Polokwane and, at approximately 02:00 [this] morning, a 36-year-old man was arrested.' Van Dyk says the man is expected to appear in the Pretoria Magistrate's Court on Wednesday, where he will face a charge of murder. Major-General Samuel Thine, the district commissioner of Tshwane, commended the investigative team for their dedication and hard work in bringing the suspect to justice. Captain Johan van Dyk, Tshwane SAPS district spokesperson, said police arrested 356 suspects and recovered a stolen vehicle during a crime operation. The operation, part of the police's zero-tolerance approach to crime, brought together a multidisciplinary team of SAPS, Department of Home Affairs, Tshwane metro police, Gauteng traffic police, and community safety officials. This outcome is a direct reflection of thorough planning, targeted deployments, and sustained visibility intended to suppress crime and track wanted suspects in identified areas,' he said. He reported that Tshwane district detectives initiated the operation's first phase, arresting 260 suspects. The arrests included 65 for gender-based violence, three for murder, three for attempted murder, six for armed robbery, one for perjury, three for possessing unlicensed firearms, and six for rape. During the operation's second phase, uniformed members conducted a roadblock in the precinct, supported by two operational teams. This, Van Dyk said, resulted in the detention of 34 undocumented foreign nationals, who are now being processed by immigration authorities for court appearances and potential deportation. Additionally, one person was fined for employing illegal immigrants. A total of 1,240 individuals and 518 vehicles were searched during the operation and three vehicles were verified to determine if they were stolen. 'This resulted in the recovery of a stolen motor vehicle that was reported stolen earlier at Pretoria Central SAPS. Thirty-seven persons were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol. At least 60 Aarto infringement notices were issued, amounting to R30,000 and one vehicle being discontinued due to non-compliance with the Road Traffic Act,' Van Dyk said. He added that police conducted targeted patrols and searches at 25 identified crime hotspots, disrupting criminal activity. The operation resulted in the arrest of nine people for public drinking and two individuals for dealing and possessing drugs, with 417 ziplock bags of various drugs and an undisclosed amount of cash seized. Additionally, authorities inspected 32 liquor outlets, closing 11 for non-compliance and seizing liquor and two gambling machines. Tshwane district Commissioner Major-General Samuel Thine thanked all stakeholders for their support and collaboration, assuring the public that similar operations will continue across the district.
