Kuwait Grants Citizenship Rights To Children With Disabilities Born To Kuwaiti Women

Gulf Insider21-07-2025
In a significant step toward equal rights and social justice, Kuwait's Ministry of Interior has issued a ministerial decision granting lifetime treatment as Kuwaiti citizens to children with disabilities born to Kuwaiti mothers, according to local media reports.
The decision was issued by Sheikh Fahad Yousef Al Sabah, First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, as part of a series of ministerial decisions, which are grounded in Article 3 of Law No. 8 of 2010 that enshrines the rights of persons with disabilities and aims to ensure their protection, integration, and full participation in society.
In a related development, Major General Ali Al Adwani, acting Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior, issued two additional directives allowing several minor children of Kuwaiti women to be treated as citizens until they reach the age of adulthood.
The measures reflect the government's continued efforts to address the legal and humanitarian concerns faced by families headed by Kuwaiti women, particularly in cases where the father is not a citizen. Authorities emphasised that these steps align with Kuwait's national legal framework and its commitments under international human rights conventions.
The Ministry of Interior reaffirmed its commitment to promoting equality and safeguarding the rights of vulnerable groups, calling the decisions part of a broader policy to uphold principles of social inclusion and justice.

Bahrain Celebrates Global Anti-Human Trafficking Day with Continued Commitments to Human Rights

Foreign Minister Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani praised Bahrain's achievements in the fight against human trafficking and its strong commitment to protecting human rights, calling the Kingdom a leading regional and international model in this field. He highlighted that these efforts stem from the wise leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the support of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister. Marking this year's World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, held under the slogan 'Human Trafficking is Organized Crime… Stop Exploitation', Dr. Al Zayani expressed pride in Bahrain's sustained progress. He noted that the country has built a robust legal and judicial system, including Law No. 1 of 2008 to Combat Human Trafficking, aligning with the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime and other international standards. The minister also celebrated the international recognition Bahrain has earned for its human rights record, particularly in protecting vulnerable groups such as women and children, including against online exploitation. Initiatives have included awareness campaigns, training programs, capacity-building efforts, and the establishment of the region's first specialized prosecution office and court for human trafficking cases, as well as a support center for migrant workers. Dr. Al Zayani extended his gratitude to the National Committee to Combat Human Trafficking, as well as government ministries, labor market regulators, civil society organizations, and diplomatic missions, for their joint efforts in safeguarding human dignity. He reaffirmed Bahrain's ongoing commitment to strengthening its national response to human trafficking with modern legislation, flexible strategies, and a focus on justice, transparency, and fairness. These efforts, he said, reflect Bahrain's civil and rights-based identity and support the National Human Rights Plan (2022–2026), the Government Action Plan, and the Bahrain Economic Vision 2030, while meeting the highest international standards.
