Bahrain Celebrates Global Anti-Human Trafficking Day with Continued Commitments to Human Rights

Daily Tribune29-07-2025
Foreign Minister Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani praised Bahrain's achievements in the fight against human trafficking and its strong commitment to protecting human rights, calling the Kingdom a leading regional and international model in this field.
He highlighted that these efforts stem from the wise leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the support of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.
Marking this year's World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, held under the slogan 'Human Trafficking is Organized Crime… Stop Exploitation', Dr. Al Zayani expressed pride in Bahrain's sustained progress. He noted that the country has built a robust legal and judicial system, including Law No. 1 of 2008 to Combat Human Trafficking, aligning with the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime and other international standards.
The minister also celebrated the international recognition Bahrain has earned for its human rights record, particularly in protecting vulnerable groups such as women and children, including against online exploitation. Initiatives have included awareness campaigns, training programs, capacity-building efforts, and the establishment of the region's first specialized prosecution office and court for human trafficking cases, as well as a support center for migrant workers.
Dr. Al Zayani extended his gratitude to the National Committee to Combat Human Trafficking, as well as government ministries, labor market regulators, civil society organizations, and diplomatic missions, for their joint efforts in safeguarding human dignity.
He reaffirmed Bahrain's ongoing commitment to strengthening its national response to human trafficking with modern legislation, flexible strategies, and a focus on justice, transparency, and fairness. These efforts, he said, reflect Bahrain's civil and rights-based identity and support the National Human Rights Plan (2022–2026), the Government Action Plan, and the Bahrain Economic Vision 2030, while meeting the highest international standards.

The office, aligned with international standards, provides a safe environment for victims to give testimony and includes a dedicated space for children. It aims to enhance cooperation with judicial authorities from investigation to prosecution. This step reflects Bahrain's commitment to combating trafficking in persons, in line with Law No. 1 of 2008 with Respect to Trafficking in Persons and the Palermo Protocol, ratified under Law No. (4) of 2004.

Bahrain Continues Strong Efforts Against Human Trafficking, Says Rights Body

Bahrain's commitment to fighting human trafficking remains strong, according to Ali Ahmed Al-Derazi, Chairman of the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR). Speaking on the occasion of World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, Al-Derazi highlighted that the NIHR closely monitors the Kingdom's efforts in this area as part of its independent role in observing, evaluating, and promoting human rights protections. He noted that Bahrain has maintained its Tier 1 status for several consecutive years in the U.S. State Department's Trafficking in Persons Report—a recognition of the country's consistent efforts and commitment to combatting this crime. Al-Derazi explained that the NIHR follows all related developments, from government legislation to institutional measures, and regularly provides feedback and recommendations to relevant authorities. These efforts, he said, aim to strengthen national initiatives while maintaining a balance between human security, dignity, and individual rights. He also stressed the importance of expanding cooperation with international and regional organizations, exchanging expertise, and adopting global best practices to combat this cross-border crime. The NIHR, he affirmed, will continue its mission through monitoring, evaluation, awareness initiatives, and partnerships with respected international bodies.
