Kopp's Frozen Custard marks Milwaukee Brewers' home opener with flavor honoring Bob Uecker
Kopp's Frozen Custard will honor Bob Uecker with a new flavor of the day Monday, the day of the Milwaukee Brewers' home opener against the Kansas City Royals.
Monday's flavor, called "Mr. Baseball" after one of the beloved broadcaster's nicknames, features caramel malt custard, beer nuts, fudge-covered peanuts and a splash of Miller Lite, according to the Kopp's flavor preview webpage. That last ingredient is a nod to Uecker's prominent role in commercials for the beer over the years.
Scott Borkin, longtime manager at the Kopp's Port Washington Road location, said the custard shop always tries to create a niche flavor for the first day of Brewers season.
"All of the managers talked about it and said that we should do something because (Uecker) was a fan of ours," Borkin said. "He stopped into our store years ago, and I'm sure he's stopped into the other stores. So, we wanted to come up with a flavor to honor him."
Uecker, the voice of the Brewers for over 50 years, died in mid-January at age 90. His legacy will be honored in numerous ways at the home opener. A gold and navy plaid print patch featuring Ueck's signature will adorn the Brewers' uniform sleeves all season. The home opener will feature his signature on the outfield grass, a moment of silence and other special moments throughout the game.
Kopp's has three locations: Greenfield at 7631 W. Layton Ave., Brookfield at 18880 W. Bluemound Road and Glendale at 5373 N. Port Washington Road. "Mr. Baseball" will be available Monday while supplies last at all three locations.

Red Sox call up top prospect Roman Anthony to major leagues
Anthony, a 2022 second-round selection, put himself on the fast track with an uncommonly mature approach both on and off the field. Across his three years in the Red Sox system, he's shown excellent plate discipline and swing decisions along with an uncanny ability to hit the ball as hard or harder than anyone at his level, and the ability to excel against older competition. Get Starting Point A guide through the most important stories of the morning, delivered Monday through Friday. Enter Email Sign Up Through Saturday, Anthony – one of the youngest position players in Triple-A this year – was hitting .290/.421/.595 with 10 homers, 21 extra-base hits, a 19 percent walk rate, and a 21 percent strikeout rate in 57 games for the WooSox while demonstrating one of the most discerning eyes at the level (he ranked in the 93rd percentile among Triple A players who'd seen at least 100 out-of-zone pitches). When making contact, he's hammered the ball, resulting in a Triple-A-high 32 barrels entering Saturday – including Advertisement That overall package has established Anthony as an elite offensive prospect. This year, his xwOBA — a statistic that defines the expected offensive value of a player's contributions based on his walk rate, strikeout rate, and quality of contact — is .441, best in Triple-A, remarkable given his youth. Advertisement 'Roman Anthony is going to be a star,' former GM and longtime baseball executive J.P. Ricciardi — now a NESN analyst for WooSox games — said earlier this year on NESN's '310 to Left' podcast. 'I think you've got a multiple-[time] All-Star, and I think you've got a player that's going to go down as one of the best Red Sox ever. I know it's high praise, but you know what? When you see them, you see them.' Now, the Red Sox will have the opportunity to start seeing whether Anthony will indeed become one of 'them.' That said, while Anthony arrives in the big leagues as a dazzling prospect, that's no guarantee of production, particularly in the short term. Anthony's close friend, Jackson Holliday, was the No. 1 prospect in the game when he cracked the Orioles' Opening Day lineup in 2024. He went 2 for 34 in the first 10 games of the season and was sent back to the minors. 'Whenever he makes his debut, he's gonna have to go through certain stuff that I had to. Obviously, it's a thing that you can carry around with pride, being the No. 1 prospect in all the minor leagues,' Holliday (who has delivered above-average production as an everyday second baseman for the Orioles in 2025) said last year. '[But] it doesn't really matter at the end of the end of the day. It's just something cool that I guess you get to have under your name.' Advertisement Moreover, there are still ongoing areas of refinement needed in Anthony's game. He's been working to hit fewer groundballs, as his 52 percent groundball rate (in the 79th percentile in Triple A) has limited his power production. He's still acclimating to left field, a position he'd played infrequently before 2025. But those are finishing details for an elite prospect who has excelled when challenged by moving to a higher level. The callup offers Anthony the opportunity to start defining his career not with future big league potential but instead with present production. It's an opportunity for which he believes he's prepared. 'I feel completely ready,' Anthony said on Opening Day in Worcester, after he'd been sent to Triple A. 'Unfortunately, everyone can't be up there at the same time. Our time will come and we'll be ready for it.' Alex Speier can be reached at
