Luke Kornet's Boston Celtics exit is now official
Kornet's contract with San Antonio marks a significant pay rise for the 2024 championship-winning center. Over the past two years, he's proven to be one of the best backup bigs in the NBA. By moving to the Spurs, he will provide genuine support for Victor Wembanyama while also ensuring the Spurs front line has considerable size across the board.
Kornet played in 73 games for the Boston Celtics last season. He averaged six points, 5.3 rebounds and 1.6 assists while shooting 66.8% from the field. However, most of his impact came outside of the boxscore, with his screening, short-roll creation and rim-protection all creating a positive contribution.
With Al Horford yet to make a decision regarding his free agency, Kornet's departure, and Kristaps Porzingis' trade to the Atlanta Hawks, the Celtics frontcourt is looking rather thin. Brad Stevens still has enough time to make some further moves, if he deems necessary, though.

Mavericks' Cooper Flagg drops 31 points, falls to Dylan Harper, Spurs in second game
No. 1 overall pick Cooper Flagg bounced back from an inconsistent debut in the NBA Summer League to lead the Dallas Mavericks in scoring in a loss to the San Antonio Spurs. Flagg produced a game-high 31 points, four rebounds, one assist and one blocked shot in the 76-69 loss on Saturday at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. He went 10 of 20 from the field and 8 of 13 from the free-throw line in 31 minutes of work. The 6-foot-8 forward is one of three players to score at least 30 points in a game in Las Vegas over the first two-plus days of action. He opened the contest with only one field goal in the first quarter, before settling in and going 9 of 16 the rest of the way. No. 2 pick Dylan Harper, who missed the Spurs' stint in the California Classic and their first game in Las Vegas with a groin injury, scored 16 points and six rebounds in 17 minutes for the Spurs. David Jones Garcia led the group with 21 points off the bench. Flagg debuted with the Mavericks on Thursday, recording 10 points, six rebounds, four assists, three steals and one block in 31 minutes. He struggled from the field, going 5 of 21, but showed flashes of brilliance on the court, which excited the packed crowd. The former Duke All-American played as the primary ballhandler and back-to-the-basket for stretches in that contest. On Saturday, Flagg faced up more on offense and managed to get downhill and to the line nearly more than the Spurs as a team, who had 15 attempts. The Mavericks have allowed Flagg to log substantial minutes and appear comfortable with him playing in longer stretches through their first two games. He looked increasingly comfortable on the court on Saturday after playing in a different role than in his debut. After falling to the Spurs on Saturday, Flagg and the Mavericks return to action on Monday against the Charlotte Hornets (6:30 p.m. EDT, NBA TV). It will be his first game against former Blue Devils teammates Kon Knueppel and Sion James.

Cooper Flagg in Summer League: Mavericks rookie drops 31 points after rough debut, but can't lead Dallas past San Antonio
Cooper Flagg's second Summer League outing was far better than his first. Though he more than lived up to expectations this time out, it still wasn't enough to get past reigning No. 2 overall pick Dylan Harper and the San Antonio Spurs. Advertisement The Spurs jumped ahead to grab a 76-69 win over the Dallas Mavericks in the Las Vegas Summer League on Saturday afternoon in Nevada. That dropped the Mavericks, who edged out the Los Angeles Lakers in their debut on Thursday, to 1-1 on the outing. Flagg finished with 31 points and four rebounds, and shot 10 of 20 from the field and 3 of 8 from behind the arc. After a slow first quarter, the reigning No. 1 overall draft pick finally came alive. He dropped 12 of his 15 first-half points in the second quarter while leading the Mavericks out of a double-digit hole. He shot 4 of 10 from the field and 1 of 3 from behind the arc. Though it was only halfway through the game, his numbers were already significantly better than his debut earlier this week. Flagg dropped just 10 points, went 5 of 21 from the field and didn't make a single 3-pointer in the Mavericks' win over the Los Angeles Lakers on Thursday. Though the Spurs jumped out to a 6-0 run to start the second half, Flagg and the Mavericks responded immediately. Flagg even threw down a perfect alley-oop on a pass from Ryan Nembhard that he was calling for just about the entire way up the floor. But even with that, the Spurs pushed their lead back to 12 points at its peak before taking a 10-point advantage into the final quarter. But Flagg easily threw down a one-handed dunk in the final seconds of the period. That, though, wasn't enough to spark another comeback. The Spurs opened the final quarter on a 12-6 burst and pushed their lead to 16 points briefly before cruising to the seven-point win. Flagg, however, didn't slow down at all. He drilled a contested 3-pointer and came so close to throwing down what would've been the poster of the first three days of Summer League over Osayi Osifo. David Jones-Garcia led the Spurs with 21 points off the bench. Harper added 16 points and six rebounds, though he went 0 of 4 from behind the arc. He was on a restriction and played only 17 minutes while dealing with a groin strain. Osifo was the only other Spurs player to hit double figures with his 12 points. Advertisement Flagg was the majority of the Mavericks' offense. Miles Kelly was the only other player to hit double figures for Dallas. He finished with 11 points and two rebounds. Matthew Cleveland added eight points off the bench. Flagg and the Mavericks will be back in action Monday against the Charlotte Hornets. A blow-by-blow recap of Mavericks-Spurs, with Cooper Flagg and Dylan Harper facing off, is below.

Mavericks' Klay Thompson's father's 2 word reaction to Megan Thee Stallion dating rumors
The post Mavericks' Klay Thompson's father's 2 word reaction to Megan Thee Stallion dating rumors appeared first on ClutchPoints. Rumors about Klay Thompson and Megan Thee Stallion set the internet ablaze this week after fans spotted what appeared to be the Dallas Mavericks sharpshooter in the background of the rapper's latest Instagram post, per Yahoo. But the buzz didn't quite reach one of the most important people in Klay's life: his dad. During a recent episode of Mason & Ireland, John Ireland brought up the alleged romance to Mychal Thompson, the former Lakers center and longtime NBA commentator. Ireland teased, 'You might be able to meet Megan Thee Stallion.' Mychal's now-viral response? 'Who's that?' Ireland, shocked, repeated her name. Still, no recognition. 'I've never heard of her,' Mychal admitted flatly, triggering laughter in the studio. Co-host Steve Mason then asked how he felt about Klay's dating habits, particularly when it comes to celebrities. Mychal shrugged it off with fatherly realism: 'Man, it's his life, what can I do.' Later in the segment, the hosts showed him a photo of Megan Thee Stallion. After glancing at it, Mychal offered a diplomatic take: 'She seems nice.' That was all he needed to say. The former NBA champ even pulled out his phone mid-show to look up her net worth and asked if she's on Beyoncé's level. He learned Megan is reportedly worth $30 million and seemed surprised, joking that the whole thing might just be internet hype. 'This could all just be overblown. You know the internet,' he said around the 12-minute mark. For now, there's no confirmation that Klay Thompson is actually dating Megan. The speculation began after the Grammy winner posted poolside bikini photos, where a man in the background resembled the Mavericks star. Neither party has commented publicly. Whether or not there's any fire to this smoke, Mychal's reaction was pure dad-mode — uninterested in the headlines, focused only on what makes his son happy.
