
Mercedes-Benz opens first showroom in Patna
has inaugurated its first showroom in Patna, operated by Landmark Cars. The new outlet marks the company's expansion into Bihar and supports its ongoing strategy to establish a presence in emerging markets.
The facility, spread across 16,500 sq. ft., is the first 3S (sales, service, and spares) Mercedes-Benz dealership in the city. Landmark Cars, one of the brand's long-standing partners, will manage operations at the site.
Santosh Iyer, MD and CEO, Mercedes-Benz India, said, 'We are delighted to inaugurate Patna's first-ever luxury car showroom, marking a significant milestone in Mercedes-Benz's India journey. Patna represents the evolving aspirations of new-age customers, with a growing appetite for luxury products, services and experiences.'
EV charging and full product line-up
The new showroom includes a 60 kW DC fast charger, which is accessible to all EV owners in Patna. The facility is capable of displaying the complete Mercedes-Benz model range, including top-end luxury vehicles like the S-Class, Mercedes-Maybach, and AMG performance models.
Customers will also have access to test drives, vehicle handovers in a dedicated bay, and a full suite of aftersales services. The showroom follows Mercedes-Benz's global design and process standards, incorporating digital consultation tools and dedicated customer lounges.

Expansion plans continue
The Patna showroom is part of a broader plan by Mercedes-Benz India to strengthen its network across key growth markets. The company is planning to open additional outlets in Kanpur, Varanasi, and Udaipur, and has already launched new showrooms in Agra and Jammu.
Mercedes-Benz India currently operates in over 50 cities, with more than 125 touchpoints nationwide.

BMW, Mercedes avoid €4 billion tariffs in EU-US trade reprieve
BMW AG, Mercedes-Benz Group AG and other European automakers are getting a €4 billion ($4.7 billion) earnings lift from the trade deal the European Union struck with the US, according to Bloomberg Intelligence. The trade deal offers a measure of clarity in a key market for Mercedes, BMW, Porsche AG and Volvo Car AB. European auto stocks rose on Monday over news that the rate on car imports from the EU would be lowered to 15% from 27.5%. BMW and Mercedes are also benefiting from tariff exemptions for about 185,000 cars they export annually from their American factories, BI analyst Michael Dean said in a note. The trade deal offers a measure of clarity in a key market for Mercedes, BMW, Porsche AG and Volvo Car AB. Since Trump imposed the tariffs in April, automakers have warned of billions of dollars in added costs and supply-chain complexity, with several of them scrapping or lowering financial forecasts for the year. 'It's the best result out of what was looking like a bad situation,' auto analyst Matthias Schmidt said in comments late Sunday. 'I think German and Swedish CEOs will be sleeping more soundly tonight than they have in recent weeks.' Still, the new rate is significantly higher than the 2.5% duty in place before Trump made his trade moves, and it forces companies to weigh whether to raise prices or move more production to the US. Germany's VCI chemical-industry association — which includes manufacturers such as BASF SE that supply carmakers — warned that the new tariffs still hurt Europe's industry. 'If you're bracing for a hurricane, you're grateful for a storm,' VCI President Wolfgang Große Entrup said in a statement. 'Nevertheless, the agreed tariffs are too high. Europe's exports are losing competitiveness.'

Hedge funds ditch tech and buy essentials, Goldman Sachs says
LONDON, July 28 (Reuters) - Hedge funds fled technology stocks at the fastest pace in 12 months in the latest week, just as the S&P 500 reached all-time highs, a note to Goldman Sachs clients and seen by Reuters said. The S&P 500, which includes seven tech stocks in its top 10 largest constituents by market value, has surged roughly 28% since its 2025 low, while the Nasdaq Composite has jumped 38% in that time. As of Friday, the S&P 500's forward price to earnings ratio, which reflects the value of a company's stock relative to its projected future earnings, was 23.11, around five-month highs, according to LSEG/Datastream. "U.S. equities valuations (such as price earnings ratios) are now 30% higher than their recent decade average, while 10-year yields remain stubbornly high and volatile. The future path of equities may depend partly on a decline in long-term rates; however, we do not seem to be there yet," Lombard Odier Investment Managers head of macro Florian Ielpo said in a note on Friday. Globally, hedge funds sold tech stocks, some of the most richly valued equities, more than any other sector last week, the Goldman Sachs note said. Rather than shorting the sector, hedge funds tended to ditch long bets and exit trades, the bank said. A short bet is designed to profit from a drop in an asset price. This week's exodus was the largest the bank had seen since July 2024, Goldman Sachs said. Hedge funds fleeing tech stocks centered on trading in North America and Europe. Every kind of tech stock was sold, including semiconductor chip companies, as well as those in software and IT services, the bank said. Meanwhile, shares in consumer staples - companies that sell items that people purchase regardless of economic conditions - were among the most net bought U.S. stock sectors this week, Goldman said. Hedge funds piled into these stocks for the fourth straight week and their trades were almost entirely long positions - those that will profit if the stock prices rise. The kind of companies whose shares hedge funds bought included those that sell food and beverages and personal care products.
