Trader fined RM500 for leaving injured friend to die
Magistrate Amalina Basirah Md Top meted out the fine on Oon Tien Yue, 37, who then paid the fine.
Oon was charged with acting negligently by endangering a human life in not seeking treatment for his friend, e-hailing driver, Law Mun How, 37, who was critically injured.
The offence was committed at a house in Pandan Perdana, Ampang, near here, between 10.33am on June 20 and 7.50pm on June 22.
The charge, under Section 336 of the Penal Code, carries a maximum jail sentence of three months or a fine of up to RM500, or both upon conviction.
Based on the facts of the case, Law, who was severely injured in an assault, had been sleeping in the car in front of Oon's house for a week since June 14.
On June 20, Oon brought Law into the house but left him in the living room without sending him for treatment.
The investigation found that Oon was negligent in leaving Law to die. – Bernama

He said initial investigations found that the lorry driver, a local man, did not possess a valid driving licence and a Goods Vehicle Licence (GDL), while the lorry's road tax had expired. Kedah authorities bust diesel smuggling attempt by Thai woman in modified pickup
ALOR SETAR, Aug 18 — The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) arrested a Thai woman for trying to smuggle diesel using a vehicle with a Malaysian registration number plate at a petrol station in Kuala Nerang on Saturday. Kedah KPDN director Muhammad Nizam Jamaludin said the woman, in her 40s, was arrested based on a public tip-off and intelligence gathered by Alor Setar KPDN enforcement personnel. 'During initial observations, a pickup truck was seen filling up diesel before heading to the back of the petrol station where the vehicle owner was changing out local registration plates for foreign registration plates. 'Further inspection revealed diesel kept in a modified tank,' he said in a statement last night, adding that an inspection at the petrol station found that the station had sold 273 litres of diesel in a single transaction to the suspect's vehicle, violating the Supply Controller's instructions on the limit of sales to locally-registered vehicles in a single day. Diesel worth almost RM800, a pickup truck, purchase receipts and documents totalling over RM30,790 were seized, he said, adding that the case is being investigated under the Control of Supplies Act 1961. — Bernama

Langkawi cops arrest seven over counterfeit cash scam
ALOR SETAR: Police have arrested seven individuals, including two women, in connection with a counterfeit money scam involving fake RM100 notes used at several retail premises around Langkawi. Langkawi OCPD Asst Comm Shariman Ashari confirmed that authorities have received four reports of counterfeit RM100 notes being used in transactions at businesses in Chenang, Padang Matsirat, and Kuah. "Following the reports and tips from the public, police apprehended five men and two local women, aged between 24 and 36 years old, in two separate locations starting from 8.30pm yesterday," he said in a statement Sunday (Aug 17) night. Urine tests on the suspects revealed all tested positive for drugs, and some have prior criminal records linked to drugs and other offences. The suspects have been remanded for three days until Tuesday (Aug 19). The case is being investigated under Section 489B of the Penal Code. - Bernama
