After a theatrical run that generated mixed responses,
Nithiin
and
Sreeleela
's heist action comedy Robinhood is now set for its digital premiere.
Streaming date out!
Directed by Venky Kudumula, the Telugu-language film will start streaming on OTT from May 10 at 6 PM.
Released in theatres on March 28, 2025, 'Robinhood' attempted to bring a blend of action, comedy, and social messaging to the big screen. Despite average box office performance, the film garnered attention for its unique storyline and the surprising addition of Australian cricketer David Warner in a key role, aimed at boosting its appeal.
An interesting plot
The film follows the story of Ram (played by Nithiin), an orphan who grows up witnessing poverty and hunger among fellow orphans. Moved by their struggles, Ram turns into a modern-day Robinhood, stealing from the rich with his clever strategies and helping the needy. As his missions unfold, he crosses paths with Neera Vasudev (Sreeleela), the daughter of a powerful pharma tycoon.
Their journey takes them to Rudrakonda, a village that becomes the focal point of a global drug trade, thanks to its cultivation of a rare marijuana strain. The movie had all the elements to entertain the audience, but somehow the execution failed. Also the movie had failed to create a hype before it's release, apart from the selling point factor that it was David Warner's acting debut.
Now heading to
ZEE5
, 'Robinhood' promises a fast-paced narrative packed with humor, action, and timely themes.
Overall verdict
'Robinhood' received mostly mixed reviews from the audiences. One Twitter user wrote, 'Just completed #Robinhood Congratulations @actor_nithiin You are back to track & also congratulations to @VenkyKudumula garu it's your 3 rd consecutive super hit, I enjoyed the film every bit & it's one of best comedy film in recent times, give it a watch with your friends.' Manoj K Jayan gets emotional at daughter Tejalakshmi's debut film launch, Recalls Urvashi's role : She's a versatile actress

'This Is the happiest moment of my life' As reported by On Manorama, addressing the media, Manoj couldn't hold back tears while speaking about how far his daughter has come. He reflected on their move from Chennai when Tejalakshmi was just seven years old. 'I wanted her to study well, get a good job, and get married,' he said, adding that he had taken a step back in his own acting career to raise his daughter with care. 'Even if she had to travel to Chennai, I told her she should inform her mother first and get her blessings,' he said. 'Urvashi is among the most versatile actresses in South India.' ' I insisted that Urvashi should be the first to hear the script' Manoj also credited his close friends Sethu and Alex for finding the perfect story for Tejalakshmi's launch.'Sethu believed this script was ideal for my daughter. Once they gave their approval, I listened to the story myself — and I truly loved it,' he concluded.

Rana Daggubati on abusing ‘mama' Venkatesh in Rana Naidu: ‘I didn't understand Hindi curses, it was when I dubbed it in Telugu that I realised…'

Rana Daggubati was one of the first Telugu stars from his generation to venture into Hindi cinema with Rohan Sippy's Dum Maaro Dum (2011), Ram Gopal Varma's Department (2012), and Neeraj Panday's Baby (2015). And this is before his period action fantasy franchise Baahubali gave rise to the pan-India phenomenon. Rana also turned out to be a first mover in the world of streaming through Karan Anshuman's 2023 action thriller show Rana Naidu on Netflix India, which he agrees is the 'first pan-India show.' In an exclusive interview with SCREEN, he talks about returning as the titular character in season 2, working with his uncle Venkatesh Daggubati, and more. Now that you've done it enough, have you grown used to cursing your uncle on screen? (Laughs) Since it was Hindi, I didn't understand much of what I said in part 1. So I thought it was okay. It was worse when I was dubbing it in Telugu. It was like, 'Shit! What did I say!' There's a very definite attire and thought gone into how they look and think. Till they're in those clothes, we're all fine. We're licensed to do anything. How is Venkatesh as a scene partner? From the time I made it as an actor, I always thought I'd work with him at some point of time. I was really looking forward to what that project would be. Rana Naidu is something unique that came our way. It's not something he or I have done before. These characters can just go on because they started from such opposite ends that you can travel with them across multiple seasons. As a co-actor, he's pretty phenomenal and charges us to be better each time. Since Rana Naidu is all about family, how did the extended Daggubati family react to it? All of them watched it independently. The kids watched it together. The moms and the grandmoms watched it separately. I think that's also the joy of streaming. At the time of season 1, we were feeling a bit edgy about how it'd turn out. But whether it's someone in the family or not, the show in itself was so new. Hindi had seen a lot of shows, but for the Telugu audience, this was pretty much the first big show that came out. Abhishek (Banerjee, co-star) kept pointing out, 'This is the only 'pan-Indian' show.' I said yeah, that's probably true. There was a lot of shock value in season 1. And then there was a family in which you hated everyone, but strangely, wanted them to be together as well. That intrigued many people. Do you see any similarity between Rana Daggubati and Rana Naidu, the character? Rana Naidu is the darkest version of Rana Daggubati that you can find, with all the issues at their peak. What was weird for me was that at the beginning, since my character is called Raina, every time Venky was saying, 'Rana! Rana!' I didn't know if it was my uncle shouting at me or the character. That was pretty messed up. Also Read — Rana Daggubati says Rana Naidu is 'a dark reality of my real life': 'This show is actually a biopic' But was there nothing common with the character to hold on to, that you resonated with, took along, and flew with? As a human being, who I am is a sum of all these parts I've played in the last 15-16 years. When you live so long with a character, you do some things on your own, but subconsciously, there are a lot more happening. An assistant told me every time you play different roles, your handwriting changes. Now, I didn't notice that. It's crazy! At one point, I was playing an organized politician. The handwriting from the notebooks at that time have the perfect handwriting! So there is a lot that happens you can't speak about. It's others who notice that. So, I'm sure I must've picked up a lot of pieces. And now that I've done two seasons, I'm sure there'll be a lot of Rana (Naidu) in me. Rana Naidu season 2 will drop on Netflix India this Friday on June 13.

Reports: Mammootty's ‘Bazooka' and ‘Dominic and the Ladies' Purse' finally set for OTT release: READ MORE

(Picture Courtesy: Facebook) After months of anticipation and speculation, Mammootty starrers — 'Bazooka' and 'Dominic and the Ladies' Purse' — are reportedly gearing up for their much-delayed OTT releases. According to a report by Sakshi Post, both films are likely to stream soon on OTT. This holds significance as both the films had not made it's OTT release after getting lukewarm response in theatres. Bazooka's OTT release The action thriller 'Bazooka', helmed by debutant Deeno Dennis, is said to have finally landed an OTT deal with ZEE5. Although an official streaming date hasn't been announced yet, the platform is reportedly in the final stages of closing the agreement for digital rights. The film follows Aryan Achary (played by Mammootty), a wealthy businessman who allies with a police officer to capture a potential psychopath through a series of strategic mind games. But the narrative soon shifts into a gripping psychological thriller as doubts arise about Aryan's true identity. Bazooka - Official Teaser The movie boasts a compelling supporting cast that includes Gautham Vasudev Menon, Shine Tom Chacko, Divya Pillai, Sidharth Bharathan, and Iswarya Menon. Despite strong performances and a unique premise, the film's OTT release had been hanging in the balance for several months. Dominic and the Ladies' Purse' OTT release Initially expected to release on Amazon Prime Video, 'Dominic and the Ladies' Purse' — a mystery comedy thriller directed by Gautham Vasudev Menon — is also believed to have found a new digital home on ZEE5. The film received a mixed reception during its theatrical run and had no concrete OTT update until now. ETimes gave the film a rating of 3 stars out of 5 and our official review read, 'The exciting climax makes up for any lethargy one may feel at any point in the film. That said, there are also plot points like the identity of an individual -who do they identify as ? There is no judgement which is fair and hopefully, it is looked at through the same lens by the larger public rather than being used as a tool to discriminate. Darbuka Siva's music is fresh and interesting. Vijay Yesudas sang a very peppy track in it with ThirumaLi joining him with Sathyaprakash and Pavithra Chari.'
