'Epstein was Pinocchio, Ghislaine Geppetto': New evidence being presented; victim calls sex offender's ex-girlfriend 'evil'

Time of Indiaa day ago
Ghislaine Maxwell
is preparing to hand over what she claims is 'material new evidence' to US prosecutors this week, in a move that could shake up the long-running saga surrounding convicted sex offender
Jeffrey Epstein
.
Maxwell, now 63 and serving a 20-year sentence for her role in recruiting girls and young women for Epstein to abuse, never testified during her own 2021 trial. But according to her brother Ian Maxwell, she is now ready to present crucial new information to federal officials, information she says could have changed the outcome of her conviction.
'She will be putting before that court material new evidence that was not available to the defense at her 2021 trial, which would have had a significant impact on its outcome,' Ian told the New York Post in an email.
Maxwell remains one of the last key figures alive with insider knowledge of Epstein's operations, from his high-profile social network to his private holdings, including his infamous island in the US Virgin Islands. Court records suggest she played a central role in managing Epstein's estate and coordinating his globe-trotting schedule, including allegedly sourcing girls for him and his powerful associates.

Victims and legal experts alike remain wary of her intentions. Teresa Helm, a survivor turned advocate who says she was recruited by Maxwell in 2002 and later assaulted by Epstein, said, 'She was crafty, successful and very articulate, and I think she's just going to make a deal to get released.'
Helm, who now works at the National Center on Sexual Exploitation in Washington DC, added, 'I can't imagine that we are going to have to deal with another sweetheart deal that results in Ghislaine Maxwell getting released from prison."
"That would be tragic for all the women who survived,' she further added.
Maxwell's critics accuse her of manipulating legal proceedings to reduce her sentence. During a 2016 civil case deposition, she was ridiculed for evasive answers, including asking lawyers to 'define a sex toy' when questioned on her knowledge of Epstein's behaviour.
One of the most prominent voices to accuse Maxwell was Virginia Giuffre, who died by suicide in April.
Giuffre had long alleged that Maxwell and Epstein trafficked her to a host of influential men, including Britain's Prince Andrew, an accusation he has repeatedly denied.
'[Ghislaine] was vicious. She was evil. Put it this way, Epstein was Pinocchio and she was Geppetto. She was the guy controlling the strings,' Giuffre once said.
Maxwell's legal team continues to argue that she was unfairly targeted following Epstein's 2019 jailhouse death and should have been shielded under the controversial 2007 plea deal Epstein struck with US authorities. That deal, widely condemned at the time, allowed Epstein to serve just 13 months, much of it on day release, despite evidence of dozens of underage victims.

2 Tripura profs suspended for ‘inappropriate conduct'

Agartala: The state govt has suspended two assistant professors from separate degree colleges following allegations of misconduct. The action was taken on Friday against Dr Shantanu Mujumdar, a chemistry professor at Kamalpur Government Degree College, and Dr Abhijit Nath, a physics professor at Ram Thakur College in Agartala. Dr Mujumdar's suspension comes after a video surfaced on social media, allegedly showing him in a compromising situation with a female student inside the college laboratory. Special secretary for education Ravel Hemendra Kumar said Dr Mujumdar admitted to the inappropriate conduct, which violated the institution's sanctity and the teaching profession's dignity. He has been directed to report to the principal of Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar College in South Tripura and is prohibited from leaving the station without prior approval. In a separate incident, Dr Nath faces suspension over allegations of tampering with the college's admission process. An inquiry revealed that he forged the admission of students not listed on the merit list by using fee cards with falsified principal signatures. Dr Nath confessed to taking 50 fee cards from the office without authorization, returning only 28, and failing to account for the rest. The college principal reported that Dr Nath facilitated 69 unauthorized admissions using 120 fee cards. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like American Investor Warren Buffett Recommends: 5 Books For Turning Your Life Around Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo Both professors have been suspended with immediate effect and are required to remain at their respective headquarters unless granted permission to leave. 3 held for swindling cash firm of 11 lakh

1 2 Koraput: Three persons were arrested on Thursday night in connection with the misappropriation of over Rs 11 lakh from a private cash management company by staging a robbery, police said. The arrests were made following a complaint filed by an official of the company. Police said the incident came to light after Asish Jena, branch head of the company's Bhubaneswar office, lodged a complaint with Koraput Town police station on July 23. Jena alleged that an employee, Siba Prasad Nag, 31, deputed at the firm's Koraput branch, had misappropriated Rs 11, 04,370. The case took a turn when Siba reportedly called a subordinate, claiming that he had been robbed by unidentified miscreants near the LIC office in Koraput while on his way to deposit the cash at a private bank. However, suspicion arose when Siba failed to file a police report and his mobile phone became unreachable. This prompted Jena to lodge the complaint. "Based on CCTV footage and other technical evidence, we apprehended Nag of Jeypore. He confessed to orchestrating the robbery," said Satyananda Patra, IIC of Koraput Town police station. Police arrested two other accused — Badal Nag (27) of Jeypore and Khirasindhu Bindhani (40) of Silakguda in Nabarangpur district — based on Siba's statement. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Access all TV channels anywhere, anytime Techno Mag Learn More Undo "The trio had conspired to stage a robbery, choosing a location in the town not covered by CCTV surveillance. HC upholds AMC's decision to sack four fire officers

Ahmedabad: The Gujarat high court on Friday upheld the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation's (AMC) decision to terminate the services of four fire officers who had secured their jobs using forged documents. The officers had allegedly submitted fake sponsorship letters to gain admission into a mandatory training course at the National Fire Service College (NFSC), Nagpur. The AMC assured the court that similar action would be taken against other fire officials who gained employment through the same fraudulent means. The controversy surfaced following a vigilance probe, which revealed that the sponsorship letters submitted by several appointees for NFSC admission were forged. Based on this, the AMC terminated their services last year. The dismissed officials challenged the decision in the high court, and a single judge had quashed the termination orders. A division bench of Justices A S Supehia and R T Vachhani ruled that the appointments were "void ab initio". by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like American Investor Warren Buffett Recommends: 5 Books For Turning Your Life Around Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo Citing the legal doctrine sublato fundamento cadit opus (if the foundation is removed, the structure falls), the court stated that appointments based on fraud cannot be legitimized. The dismissed officers claimed discrimination, arguing that others who used similar means had not been penalized. However, the court rejected this argument, observing: "The concept of 'equality', as envisaged under Article 14 of the Constitution, is a positive concept which cannot be enforced in a negative manner. Hence, the punishment cannot be set aside on the ground of discrimination." The court also recorded AMC's assurance, through its counsel advocate Virk, that action would be taken against all employees who had submitted fake sponsorship letters.
