Air ambulance transports injured citizens after Haima rollover accident

Muscat Daily3 days ago
Muscat –Environment Authority has taken action against a tourism company for damaging vegetation in Wadi Darbat, a key natural site in Dhofar visited by thousands during the annual khareef season.
According to the authority, a seizure report was filed after specialists observed that the company had driven four-wheel-drive vehicles and a large truck across vegetated areas, causing environmental damage. The violation was recorded under Article 21 of the Environmental Protection Law, which prohibits acts that harm natural ecosystems.
The incident comes amid wider efforts to safeguard natural sites during the monsoon-driven khareef season, which draws large crowds to Salalah and its surroundings.
ROP issues safety reminder
In a parallel campaign, the Royal Oman Police (ROP) has stepped up awareness and enforcement following a rise in unsafe behaviour observed during this year's tourist influx.
In a public advisory accompanied by awareness visuals, the ROP warned against reckless acts such as passengers exiting moving vehicles through sunroofs or windows — an offence that carries legal penalties. 'Such actions are not just dangerous, they are punishable by law,' the ROP stated.
The police also raised concerns about vehicles being parked on sloped or fog-prone shoulders, which pose a hazard to motorists and pedestrians alike. A photo shared by the ROP showed a vehicle parked at the edge of a drop-off, accompanied by the caption: 'Be responsible — avoid hazardous locations.'
Child safety near water bodies is also emphasised. Families are urged not to leave children unattended around ponds, lakes or streams commonly visited during khareef. 'A moment of distraction can cost dearly,' the advisory warned.
Authorities further reminded tourists that driving with obscured or dirty number plates constitutes a traffic offence. 'A clean vehicle reflects your awareness and responsibility,' the statement said.
The campaigns by the Environment Authority and the ROP are part of a broader effort to prevent accidents and environmental degradation during the peak tourism period in southern Oman. Both agencies have called on visitors to respect local laws and cooperate with authorities to ensure a safe and sustainable experience.

CDAA takes foolproof measures to boost safety of Dhofar tourists

Muscat: As part of its ongoing commitment to enhancing safety, the Civil Defence and Ambulance Authority (CDAA) is leaving no stone unturned for the security of tourists visiting the Dhofar Governorate during the 2025 Khareef season. Dhofar governorate is witnessing a growing influx of visitors from within and outside the Sultanate of Oman, given its unique natural attractions. The CDAA has strengthened its field presence by deploying specialised teams at a number of tourist and natural sites, such as wadis, beaches, mountainous areas, and waterfalls. This aims to ensure a rapid response to any emergency, and provide rescue and ambulance services, ensuring everyone's safety and enhancing the sense of security and reassurance among visitors and residents. Additionally, the Authority also continues its awareness-raising efforts through its advisory and awareness programmes targeting visitors and the local community. These campaigns aim to educate them about the potential risks at natural sites, emphasise the importance of adhering to public safety guidelines, and avoid dangerous behaviours that could put lives at risk. These efforts are part of the Authority's commitment to instilling a culture of prevention and enhancing the readiness of its specialised teams. These teams work together to perform their duties in accordance with the highest safety and rapid response standards. These teams include civil protection members, which inspect and ensure that tourist facilities and establishments comply with safety and risk prevention requirements. The ambulance teams provide emergency medical care at accident sites and ensure the rapid transfer of injured persons to healthcare facilities while water rescue personnel secure beaches and marine sites and respond immediately to drowning incidents; and mountain rescue teams conduct search and rescue operations in mountainous areas and difficult terrain to ensure rapid access to trapped and injured persons. The entire group operates according to well-prepared plans for protecting lives and property, in line with the Authority's goals to provide its services with utmost professionalism. The Authority expects visitors to follow safety procedures, and avoid approaching dangerous areas, such as valleys during weather fluctuations, and refrain from crossing wadis or camping in unsafe areas, to ensure their own safety and that of their families. It also emphasises the need to cooperate with field teams and follow instructions issued by the relevant authorities, ensuring everyone has a safe and stable time during the Dhofar Khareef season 2025.

Over 89,000 visitors to Al Jabal Al Akhdar in 1st half of 2025

Al Jabal Al Akhdar: The number of visitors to the Wilayat of Al Jabal Al Akhdar in A'Dakhiliyah Governorate from January to the end of June 2025 reached 89,780, compared to 84,869 visitors during the same period in 2024, marking an increase of 5.8%, according to statistics released by the National Centre for Statistics and Information. This rise in visitors during the first half of 2025 is attributed to the organisation of several events in the Wilaya, such as the "Spring of the Mountain" event, which coincided with the rose harvest season. This is one of the most prominent annual events that contributed to attracting visitors and tourists from within and outside the Sultanate of Oman. The events, organized in collaboration between the A'Dakhiliyah Governorate Office, the Department of Heritage and Tourism, and the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Department in the governorate, helped boost tourism and introduce visitors to the value of Omani roses, their associated agricultural practices and traditional industries, as well as highlighting the cultural and natural heritage of Al Jabal Al Akhdar. Other notable events, such as the "Rumana" event, also played a role. Statistics revealed that the number of Omani visitors to Al Jabal Al Akhdar in the first half of 2025 reached 26,605, while visitors from GCC countries exceeded 6,000. The data issued by the National Centre for Statistics and Information also showed that the number of visitors from other Arab nationalities reached 4,998, while foreign nationals accounted for the largest share of visitors at 51,710. It is worth noting that Al Jabal Al Akhdar is one of the most prominent tourist destinations in the Sultanate of Oman, known for its moderate summer climate. The availability of numerous hotel facilities, rest houses, and tourist lodges, along with the hosting of various events, has contributed to attracting tourists. Al Jabal Al Akhdar is also considered one of the most important destinations for ecotourism and adventure tourism. Visitors can enjoy various activities such as hiking through valleys, exploring caves, and mountain climbing, which also provide opportunities to experience the local culture in the Wilaya villages, further enhancing its appeal as a comprehensive tourist destination.
