Yahoo11-05-2025

Aaron Eckhart has signed on to star in The Old Man in the Dunes, an 'inspirational thriller' from Angel Studios, the faith-based distributor behind Sound of Freedom and The King of Kings.
The feature, based on an award-winning short, traces the story of an enigmatic old man living in the dunes who is unjustly accused of killing a local. His only hope is a steadfast public defender determined to unearth the truth. According to a summary of the plot, the story 'delves deep into the human soul, underscoring the consequences of concealing the truth and the redemption that can be found in repentance.'

Christian Guiton wrote The Old Man in the Dunes and will direct the film as his feature debut. Noli Molla and Mark Holder are producing for Wonder Street, alongside Jacques Abrahamian. The film is set to begin shooting in the third quarter of this year for a planned 2026 release.
'The Old Man in the Dunes has been part of my family's story for nearly a century, and it's a dream come true to finally bring it to life,' said Guiton in a statement. 'With Aaron Eckhart leading the cast, a raw and emotional approach to the storytelling, and the incredible support of Angel, we're excited to create something both gritty and hopeful. I'm beyond grateful for the team that's making this dream a reality.'
Angel Studios will bow the film stateside. Pia Patatian's Cloud9 Studios are handling international sales and will be pitching the project to buyers at the Cannes film market next week.
Cloud9′ Cannes slate also includes Barry Levinson's thriller Assassination starring Jessica Chastain, Brendan Fraser, Al Pacino, and Bryan Cranston, which will begin shooting this summer, and the romantic comedy Under the Stars starring Toni Collette and Andy Garcia. Wonder Street is currently in production on the Mark Wahlberg film By Any Means, and in pre-production on Naomi Watts' The Housewife.
Angel Studios is riding high on the success of The King of Kings, an animated feature from South Korean company Mofac Animation about the life of Jesus Christ, with a voice cast that includes Oscar Isaac, Ben Kingsley, Mark Hamill, and Forest Whitaker, and which has grossed close to $60 million at the domestic box office to date. Angel's breakout film was Alejandro Monteverde's The Sound of Freedom, which earned more than $184 million domestically and over $250 million worldwide but became associated in the public discussion with the QAnon conspiracy movement.
Eckhart is represented by CAA and Hirsch Wallerstein Hayum Matlof and Fishman.

Pierce Brosnan Gives Update on Possible 'Remington Steele' Reboot

Folks who were around in the 1980s likely remember Remington Steele, the detective series featuring Pierce Brosnan as a private detective. The series, which ran from 1982 to 1987, likely helped set the stage for Brosnan's later emergence as James Bond. It certainly was a highlight of his early career. In Remington Steele, Brosnan played a suave former con man turned detective. And now Brosnan has revealed that a Remington Steele reboot has been kicked around. However, don't hold your breath as it seems far from certain. In a lengthy interview with The Hollywood Reporter on June 2, Brosnan was asked about the possibility of a Remington Steele reboot. The author asked Brosnan, "As studios and networks are now keen on revivals, have you ever given thought to or been approached by execs for a Remington Steele revival?" "They have brought it up in discussions, yes. Nothing's been done about it. So I've left it's (sic) just sitting there," he said to THR. According to Britannica, in 1986, with Remington Steele a success, Brosnan was chosen to take over the iconic Bond role from Roger Moore. However, his NBC contract "prevented him from accepting," so the role went to Timothy Dalton instead. The next year, though, Remington Steele ended. Brosnan would later get to play Bond. A return of Remington Steele would certainly be nostalgic for some fans. Brosnan starred in the show with actress Stephanie Zimbalist. She sometimes posts about the series on her Instagram page. According to Irish America, Remington Steele first made Brosnan, now starring in Mobland, a "household name."Pierce Brosnan Gives Update on Possible 'Remington Steele' Reboot first appeared on Men's Journal on Jun 10, 2025

Sydney Sweeney Gained 30 Pounds for 'Crazy' Christy Martin Biopic Transformation

Sydney Sweeney is revealing the details of her 'crazy' body transformation to play professional boxer Christy Martin. During a Monday profile with W Magazine, the Euphoria actress opened up about the rigorous training schedule she endured to portray the boxer. Sweeney went through three and a half months of training, which resulted in her gaining over 30 pounds for the role. 'I started eating. I weight-trained in the morning for an hour, kickboxed midday for about two hours, and then weight-trained again at night for an hour.' Sweeney admitted that 'my body was completely different' because of all the training, which led to her not being able to 'fit in any of my clothes.' 'I'm usually a size 23 in jeans, and I was wearing a size 27,' Sweeney recounted. 'My boobs got bigger. And my butt got huge. It was crazy! I was like, 'Oh my God.'' Still, the Emmy nominee didn't mind the shift in physical appearance. 'It was amazing: I was so strong, like crazy strong,' she added. Sweeney confirmed she was starring in the forthcoming Martin biopic in October of last year 'thanks to some paps in bushes,' she wrote on Instagram at the time. When announcing the news, she shared a photo of herself as Martin, sporting brown curly hair and toned arms. Martin is regarded as one of the most prolific female boxers of all time, beginning her career in 1989 before she retired in 2012. She won the WBC female super welterweight world champion title in 2009 and is the only female boxer to cover Sports Illustrated. Martin nearly died in 2010 when her husband, Jim Martin, stabbed her and shot her in the chest. After surviving the murder attempt, Jim was sentenced to 25 years in prison. 'Over the past few months, I've been immersed in training to bring to life the story of an incredible woman — a true champion who fought battles both inside and outside the ring,' Sweeney wrote. 'Her journey is a testament to resilience, strength, and hope, and I'm honored to step into her shoes to share her powerful story with you all. More to come soon.' Emmy experts predict Drama Series race: ‘Severance' out front, but watch out for ‘The Pitt'

As Emmy voting begins, can Severance hold onto its momentum as the Best Drama Series frontrunner, or might another show steal its thunder? Four top Emmy experts — Variety's Clayton Davis, The Hollywood Reporter's Scott Feinberg, Indiewire's Marcus Jones, Deadline's Pete Hammond — predict the race with moderator and Gold Derby editor-in-chief Debra Birnbaum in our latest slugfest (watch above). "We have to talk about Severance — that's Apple's main play," says Jones. The sci-fi series has been the category's de facto leader all season long. HBO and Max have an incredible amount of product this year, he says, including The Pitt, The White Lotus, The Last of Us, Industry, and House of the Dragon. He also declares Hulu's apocalyptic series Paradise to be "one of the big newcomers" of the year, with "an amazing performance from Sterling K. Brown." Looking beyond the frontrunners, he's "impressed" by how many voters are telling him they're watching Your Friends & Neighbors on Apple TV+. But what about Landman? "That's a real wild card to me because, out in the real world, everybody's watching it, but it's TBD who's watching it in the TV Academy." Hulu "There are a lot of good possibilities in the drama series category," says Hammond. The Handmaid's Tale ended its final season amid "everything going on in the world, and seemingly this show has turned into a documentary, ... Handmaid's Tale is now true life!" As for The Pitt, he thinks it's "so hard to watch" because of all the realistic medical stories, and wishes there were commercials. "I need a break [from all the blood]." Davis is already looking ahead to the Emmy ceremony, claiming, "Win-wise, I think this is Severance vs. The Pitt for the rest of the year. I think The Pitt is so Homeland Season 1 coded. I want to know how many nominations it gets before I can really cross over and say it can do it." He also creates a stir when he mentions how Pedro Pascal should drop down to supporting for The Last of Us because it's "more appropriate" after what happens to his character in Season 2. As for shows that people are actually watching "in the real world," Birnbaum singles out Matlock, with its star Kathy Bates on the cusp of being the oldest winner ever for Best Drama Actress. "It's just such a strong narrative," she says. "You have to imagine voters are going to get swept up with that." Which Emmy expert do you agree with the most?
