Man is gunned down in 'drive-by shooting' at petrol station: Police hunting killer in 'stolen car'
The victim was shot near a petrol station on Doncaster Road, Wakefield at around 9.45pm on Tuesday.
Police believe the vehicle used was on 'false plates and was stolen in a burglary in Castleford on August 3'.
The victim was rushed to hospital where he died from his injuries.
He is understood to be a 50-year-old man who was living in the local area.
The man's immediate family are aware and are being offered support by specially trained officers.
Officers said the vehicle involved is believed to be a blue/grey-coloured Toyota RAV4 with a grey trim, displaying cloned plates FV53FXT.
The vehicle is described as being 'distinctive due to having bull lights on the roof above the windshield'.
Detective Chief Inspector James Entwistle, of West Yorkshire Police's homicide and major inquiry team, said: 'A man has lost his life, and it is an absolute priority for us to understand the circumstances of what has taken place and identify anyone who has had any involvement in this incident.
'We understand that the vehicle used in this offence was on false plates and was stolen in a burglary in Castleford on 3 August.
'The vehicle is particularly distinctive because of the bull lights fitted to the vehicle.
'We are interested in speaking to anyone who believes they have seen this RAV4 following this burglary, around the time of this offence and since.
'The vehicle may now be displaying different plates.
'Motorists who were in the Doncaster Road area last night who have dashcams fitted are also asked to check whether they have captured any footage of this vehicle.
'The driver was driving in the direction of Wakefield before they have turned around near the BP petrol station immediately prior to the shooting and then driven off in the direction they came from.
'We understand the shock and concern that an incident of this nature will cause, particularly given that a firearm has been involved.
'We are dedicating significant resources to this investigation and our neighbourhood policing colleagues are supporting this with an increased presence in the area to provide reassurance to the community.'

A trial date has been set for three teenagers who are charged with the murder of a man at a seaside resort. The 16-year-old girl and 14-year-old boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, have been remanded into youth detention accommodation. A plea and trial preparation date has been set for November 6.

Militant attacks on Pakistani police kill 5 as government hunt for insurgents displaces thousands
A series of attacks against Pakistani police by militants left five officers dead and eight wounded in a region where a government operation against insurgents has displaced 100,000 people, officials said. There were four attacks with three resulting in officer casualties Thursday, police said. Most died or were injured in a single attack in the Upper Dir district when armed men ambushed a police van early Thursday. Three officers died and seven were injured during the routine patrol, police official Ismail Khan said. In the Peshawar suburb of Hassan Khel, armed men opened fire on a police station with automatic weapons. One officer died and another was wounded in an exchange of fire, Peshawar Capital City Police Officer Qasim Ali Khan said. Two other overnight attacks came at police checkpoints in the Lajbok area of the Lower Dir district, where a police constable was killed, and in the Bannu district, where there were no casualties reported. There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the assaults and it was not immediately known if they were connected. Authorities have stepped up security across the country on the country's Independence Day, which was celebrated Thursday. Man with hammer arrested after shop door smashed in Nottingham
