Under the agreement, Dassault Reliance Aerospace Limited (DRAL)—a joint venture between Dassault and Reliance Aerospace—will set up a cutting-edge final assembly line for the Falcon 2000 aircraft in Nagpur, Maharashtra. What are the main issues facing new Renault CEO Provost?
Incoming Renault CEO Francois Provost will take the helm of the French automaker at a time when it is beginning to show cracks in its recent success, revising down its full year profit forecast earlier this month due to weaker sales volumes. Below are some of the challenges ahead for Provost when he takes over on Thursday: Tougher competition While Renault has been largely protected from U.S. tariffs because it does not sell in the United States, it has been indirectly hit by increased commercial pressure as European competitors looking for new markets outside the U.S. step up efforts to sell in the French firm's home region. The company reported zero growth in second quarter sales volumes, and warned of weak sales performance in June. It is also facing rising competition from Chinese entrants, both in electric vehicles and hybrids. Analysts at Barclays say Renault may have seen slower price-mix momentum in the first half of the year. The company is scheduled to report full results for the first half on Thursday. Dependency on Europe and cars With sluggish growth in Europe where Renault sells more than 70% of its cars, it needs to expand in emerging markets. It has already outlined plans to invest 3 billion euros ($3.4 billion) to launch eight new models under the Renault brand for non-European markets by 2027. It will also target developing less cyclical businesses beyond autos, such as EV charging and financial services, as part of a mid-term strategy which former CEO Luca de Meo had aimed to unveil later this year. Too small, less independent Conscious that its small size does not allow it to fund the development of electrified and autonomous vehicles, Renault has set up numerous partnerships, including with China's Geely in Korea and in combustion and hybrid engines around the world, and with Volvo Group in electric vans. However, this strategy has raised concerns among unions that the company could lose its in-house know-how and its independence. Renault, ranking only 15th in volumes globally, is frequently the subject of rumours of a tie-up with larger peer Stellantis. Partnerships with Geely also have some worried about potential leverage by China, though Renault's main shareholder, the French state, says the tie-ups do not compromise the company's ability to remain independent. A high place of launches Under de Meo, Renault launched one of the biggest product renewals in its history, with a record 10 launches and two facelifts last year. It is planning another seven launches and two facelifts in 2025, including of the Renault 4 and the Dacia Bigster, and eight more in 2026, according to sources familiar with the matter. Key to increasing market share, new launches also require significant investment in marketing and industrial fine-tuning to deliver cars on time, at the right quality. Van hoes A leader in Europe's high profit commercial vehicles market, Renault's van sales plunged by 29% in the first half due to a softer economy, and an overhaul of its models and product offering. Getting back to investment grade One of Renault's top priorities is to get its credit rating back to investment grade to attract new investors, while also boosting its market cap, currently only at 10 billion euros versus Stellantis' 23 billion euros. Renault's debt is rated Ba1 by Moody's and BB+ by S&P Global, one notch below investment grade. Nissan Since starting to rebalance its partnership with Nissan in early 2023, Renault has done three share sales, and reduced its stake in its Japanese partner to 35.7% (17.05% held directly and 18.66% via a trust). It will need to find the right time to sell more, made more challenging by Nissan's financial and operational difficulties. It will also play a role in Nissan's overhaul, particularly if the Japanese company decides to sign a strategic partnership with another manufacturer. Renault opposed recent plans for a tie-up with Honda because it considered the financial terms were not generous enough.

Capital Protection Force, Amardeep Kumar, and others were accused in the 792 crore scam. ED found some of the scam money was splurged in casinos. ED had initiated a PMLA investigation against Capital Protection Force, a city-based company responsible for running a bogus invoice discounting scheme, Amardeep Kumar, and others based on three FIRs registered by the Cyberabad police's Economic Offence Wing. The accused fraudulently cheated gullible investors on the pretext of high returns on their investments. ED investigation had revealed that Capital Protection Force, in the name of the 'Falcon invoice discounting scheme', lured investors on the pretext of providing funds for invoice discounting in exchange for promising returns based on the invoices discounted, but failed to repay their invested amounts. The probe revealed that Amardeep was the mastermind behind the scam, and he developed Falcon invoice app to receive deposits from the investors. The app was widely advertised on platforms such as Google, YouTube, and other social media to attract investors. The ED investigation revealed that, in reality, no business of invoice discounting was carried out. The probe also revealed that the proceeds of crime, generated by the accused through the scam, were used as investments in equity shares of several companies, loans to companies, the purchase of an aircraft, conspicuous consumption in casinos, and the purchase of immovable properties in the name of Amardeep Kumar and his family members. The attached properties are in the name of Amardeep Kumar, his family members, Rhett Healthcare Pvt Ltd, and Rhett Herbal Pvt Ltd. ED had earlier conducted search operations on March 7, 2025, and seized a private jet, 'Hawker 800A', which was purchased by Amardeep Kumar, from the proceeds of crime. Punjab's GST collection in July logs 32% jump
Finance, planning, excise and taxation minister Harpal Singh Cheema on Friday claimed that the state had once again broken records in tax revenue growth, with the Goods and Services Tax (GST) collection registering a net growth of 32.08% in July 2025 compared to the same period last year. Punjab finance minister Harpal Singh (HT) He said for the last three years, the state had been setting record-breaking growth in tax revenue year-on-year and month-on-month. In a press statement, the finance minister highlighted that the net GST revenue collected in July 2025 was ₹2,357.78 crore, a substantial increase of ₹572.71 crore compared to the ₹1,785.07 crore collected in July 2024. He further shared that up to July of the current financial year, net GST revenue had reached ₹9,188.18 crore, marking an increase of ₹2,025.36 crore over the ₹7,162.82 crore collected during the same period in the 2024-25 fiscal year. Cheema attributed this growth to the policies implemented by the Aam Aadmi Party-led Punjab government, which he claimed had fostered a conducive business environment and encouraged tax compliance. He said the department's enforcement actions had also curbed tax evasion, with a focus on providing assistance to honest taxpayers. Cheema revealed that the State Investigation and Preventive Unit (SIPU) recovered ₹156.40 crore in penalties during the first quarter of FY 2025-26. This includes ₹57.43 crore from road checks and ₹98.97 crore from inspections and verifications. Further, SIPU uncovered two significant GST fraud cases, involving ₹2,620.80 crore in fake transactions and estimated tax evasion of ₹296.32 crore, leading to two FIRs in June 2025. The finance minister said the Punjab government's proactive measures had positioned the state among the top performers in tax mobilisation, despite many challenges. He said the state's GST collection growth rate had consistently surpassed the national average, reflecting the effectiveness of the government's policies and initiatives.
