Yahoo14-07-2025
A young woman is fighting for life following a hit-and-run in western Sydney.
The woman, aged in her 20s, was crossing the road at the intersection of Woodville Rd and Kirrang Ave in Villawood just before 7.30am on Monday when she was struck by a car, police said.
'Police have been informed that the woman was on a pedestrian crossing when she was hit by a blue Hyundai hatch back,' the police said.
'The driver failed to stop and the vehicle was last seen driving south along Woodville Road.'
Paramedics treated the woman at the scene before rushing her to Liverpool Hospital in a critical condition.
Specialist police from the Crash Investigation Unit are examining the scene.
Woodville Rd had been closed between Christiana St and the Hume Highway, but has since been reopened. Buses have also returned to normal routes.
Motorists are being advised to allow extra travel time while traffic conditions return to normal.
Police are urging anyone with information about the crash, or anyone who was in the area at the time with any available dashcam or mobile phone footage to contact the Fairfield Police Station or CrimeStoppers.

Boy, 11, accused of pulling knife on Calgary bus driver, too young to be charged

CALGARY — Police say three youths were arrested, including an 11-year-old, after a Calgary bus driver and a liquor store were robbed. They allege the 11-year-old boy approached the bus driver late Tuesday, pulled a knife and demanded the driver's phone. They say the driver de-escalated the situation and the youth left with an unknown amount of money then joined a group standing outside the bus. Police say it's believed the youths also robbed a liquor store less than an hour before, stealing multiple bottles worth more than $200. The 11-year-old was released into the custody of a parent, as children younger than 12 can't be charged under the Criminal Code. Police say a 14-year-old girl is charged with shoplifting and failing to comply with a release order, and charges are expected against a 16-year-old girl for the liquor store theft. 'Thanks to the swift response of our officers in the downtown area, the teen suspects were located and taken into custody, preventing further harm to the community," said Insp. Jason Bobrowich in a news release Wednesday. "We've also ensured that their families are connected with the full range of available supports to move forward and make positive choices in the future." Slain Ohio police officer honored with Purple Heart and Medal of Honor during memorial service

Rows of uniformed law enforcement and a crowd of other mourners honored a slain Ohio police officer during a public memorial at a Cleveland arena on Wednesday, a week after authorities say a shooter lying in wait ambushed him and another officer as they parked to eat lunch in a remote area. Before the service, a funeral procession for Lorain Police Officer Phillip C. Wagner, 35, rolled from a funeral home in North Ridgeville into downtown Cleveland and to Rocket Arena, where the NBA's Cavaliers play. Members of the community and Ohio law enforcement agencies lined streets along the procession route to pay their respects, waving American flags as a S.W.A.T. vehicle transporting Wagner's body passed. The shooting wounded the officer who was with Wagner and another officer who responded to their call for help. The 28-year-old shooter was killed, and police have not shared details on any motive. During the memorial, fellow officers spoke about Wagner's courage and dedication to a packed arena. 'Your presence says everything about the man we're here to remember, a hero, a husband, a father, a friend,' said Lorain police Officer Matt Hartman. Wagner was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart and Medal of Honor by Lorain Police Chief Michael Failing at the service. Mayor Jack Bradley declared July 24 as Officer Phillip Wagner Day in the city of Lorain. To close the service, a final radio call was read over the loudspeaker: 'Thank you for your service. Godspeed, sir. We have the watch from here. ... 4178 is out of service.'
