Union Minister Rijiju slams Congress over Emergency; unveils projects worth Rs 78 Cr in Himachal Pradesh
Shimla (Himachal Pradesh) [India], June 26 (ANI): Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Kiren Rijiju on Thursday hit out at the Congress over the 1975 Emergency, calling it a 'murder of the Constitution.'
Addressing the media in Shimla on the second day of his three-day visit to Himachal Pradesh, Rijiju said, 'The Emergency imposed in 1975 was nothing less than a murder of the Constitution. It throttled the media and crushed individual and institutional freedoms.'
'Even after 50 years, we must not forget the dangers of authoritarianism. That is why the Union Cabinet passed a resolution to remind people about what really happened. Shimla is symbolically important; it was the summer capital during colonial rule, and many freedom fighters were jailed here. Today, we observe 'Samvidhan Hatya Divas' from this historic city,' Rijiju added.
Further sharpening his attacks on the Congress, Kiren Rijiju said that those who once killed the Constitution are today holding its book and lecturing the nation on constitutional values.
'The people of India must recognise this hypocrisy. Everyone should read the letter of Pandit Nehru that led to the resignation of Baba Saheb Ambedkar. That letter reflects the Congress party's real character. Prime Minister Modi declared November 26 as Constitution Day to remind the nation of its founding principles. We have urged Congress to observe this day as Samvidhan Hatya Divas,' the Union Minister said.
Rijiju also gave details of the projects to be started and foundation stones to be laid during his three-day visit to the region. He unveiled Rs 78 Cr sports and infrastructure schemes for the Trans-Himalayan Belt.
Rijiju also unveiled a central package to promote winter and adventure sports in Himachal Pradesh's tribal districts, especially Kinnaur and Lahaul-Spiti, as part of the Centre's border-area development strategy.
'Himachal has three zones: the plains, the hill stations, and the Trans-Himalayas. We are focusing on the Trans-Himalayan belt for transformative development,' he said.
The projects announced include Indoor Multi-Sports Stadium at Kalpa (foundation to be laid during visit), Green grass turf ground at Gyabung (Kinnaur) at a cost of Rs 4.80 crore, High-altitude skiing and winter sports training centre at Kaza (Lahaul-Spiti) with vocational training facilities, to be built at a cost of Rs 73.77 crore, Special sewage management scheme for high-altitude villages in Lahaul.
The Union Minister also highlighted the future plans for cricket development in the region.
He said, 'There will be revolutionary efforts for sports infrastructure in Lahaul-Spiti. These schemes will empower youth in the remotest parts of India.'
'Even the McMahon Line Agreement was signed in Shimla. This region has always been central to our national security and identity,' Rijju said.
Responding to criticism that the Centre has neglected Himachal, Rijiju countered and said that It is just a political statement by Congress.
'The Union Government is fully committed to the development of Himachal Pradesh and its people. In 2013, Defence Minister AK Antony told Parliament there would be no development in certain border regions. Today, we are building world-class infrastructure in the same areas. The Prime Minister has directed every minister to connect directly with people, even in the remotest villages. That is how we are functioning, not with words, but with work,' he asserted. (ANI)

CEL playing a leading role in data centers and green energy: CM Yogi
Ghaziabad, Jun 26(UNI) Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Thursday described Central Electronics Limited (CEL)'s journey as a symbol of India's industrial revival and self-reliance. He said that CEL is a key part of Prime Minister Modi's vision for a developed India by 2047, and that through organizations like these, new India is moving forward with strength, technology, and confidence. CM Yogi and Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science & Technology, Dr. Jitendra Singh, laid the foundation stone for the CEL-ESDS Green Data Centre in Sahibabad, Ghaziabad on Thursday. During the event, the CM expressed happiness about the new greenfield data centre being developed by CEL. He said, ' It is a strong step toward achieving PM Modi's goal of net-zero emissions by 2070.' He also mentioned that Uttar Pradesh will generate 20,000 megawatts of renewable energy by 2027, with CEL playing a key role in this mission. At the Golden Jubilee celebration of Central Electronics Limited (CEL) in Ghaziabad and the foundation stone-laying ceremony of its new data center, CM Yogi took part in the Puja and also visited the exhibition, where he was given information about the data center and its operations. He also planted a sapling as part of the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' campaign. During the event, CEL also handed over a cheque worth Rs 21 crore to the Government of India, and an MoU was exchanged between CEL and Multi Infra for a 200 MW solar module project. Speaking at the event, the CM described CEL's 50-year journey as an inspiring success story, saying that the company has now entered the "Amrit Kaal" and is playing a key role in fulfilling PM Modi's vision of a developed India. He recalled that there was a time when CEL faced uncertain days and was even put on the list for disinvestment. 'However, today CEL has become a profit-making 'Mini Ratna' company and is handing over dividends to the government. This change is an inspiration for Atmanirbhar (Self-Reliant) India,' he added. The CM praised CEL for its innovations in sectors like railways, defence, renewable energy, and education. He said that CEL's technology and creativity are making the nation stronger. Highlighting its contributions, the Chief Minister noted that CEL plays a key role in areas such as smart classrooms, signaling systems, renewable energy modules, and defence equipment. He also mentioned that CEL made India's first solar photovoltaic module in 1974 and is now setting up the country's first greenfield data center. Talking about the Defence Manufacturing Corridor, he said that equipment for BrahMos missiles is also being produced with the help of organizations like CEL. Referring to Operation Sindoor, CM Yogi said that BrahMos and Akash missiles were recently used against Pakistan. 'We can say that the capacity of both these missiles have been 'tested' in Pakistan and 'trusted' worldwide,' he remarked. The Chief Minister also linked CEL's progress to the changing image of Uttar Pradesh. He said that in the past eight years, the state's economy has grown 2.5 times, lifting 6 crore people out of poverty. Investors are now eager to invest in Uttar Pradesh, which was earlier known as a backward state. 'Today, Uttar Pradesh is becoming the growth engine of the country,' he added. Out of Rs 50 lakh crore worth of investment proposals, Rs 15 lakh crore of investments have already started production after the groundbreaking ceremonies. Speaking about CEL's journey, CM Yogi said, 'Your childhood was good, then you faced some challenges in your youth, but now you have entered your Amrit Kaal.' This is a period of the next 25 years dedicated to making India self-reliant and developed. He added that Prime Minister Modi has often stressed the need to connect educational institutions with industry, and Uttar Pradesh has excellent institutes like IITs, IIMs, universities, and central laboratories to help achieve this goal. Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science and Technology, Dr. Jitendra Singh, said that CEL has its own legacy. The company invented the first solar cell back in 1970, and now, 50 years later, it is about to set up a green data center. He praised Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, saying, 'Your name is already part of history for the construction of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, and I'm happy that two institutions under my ministry also contributed to it.' He also announced that the country's first quantum unit will soon be established at IIT Noida. MCD key panel to take up pending plans today
New Delhi: Municipal Corporation of Delhi's standing committee will take up on Friday various business proposals pending for two and a half years. There will be around 98 agendas, such as the comprehensive contract for the replacement of LED lights in six zones and the construction of a new multilevel parking to serve the requirements of visitors at Bharat Darshan Park. The agenda also includes proposals for the collection, transportation, processing and management of construction and demolition waste in Shahdara north and south, the extension of security services at Hindu Rao Hospital, multitask workers at Rajan Babu Hospital and Maharishi Valmiki Hospital, private security services at Kasturba Hospital and the comprehensive operation and maintenance of 24 mechanical road sweepers for two years. The meeting will also discuss 51 layout plans. In Oct 2024, MCD developed a comprehensive proposal to replace approximately four lakh LED lights on streets, parks, etc., in a phased manner across four zones: central, south, west and Najafgarh. The proposal, costing Rs 1,144.3 crore, also includes the operation and maintenance of these lights for 10 years. It will need a final nod from the standing committee for finalising the rate and the agency. The election will be held on July 10, and the last date for filing nominations is July 3. The elections are held every year soon after the constitution of the statutory committee. The elections will be held for most panels, except for the ad hoc (remunerative projects) committee and ad hoc (welfare of scheduled caste and implementation of SC candidate quota) committee, the public notice stated.

RSS Leader Calls For Debate On Words "Socialist", "Secular" In Preamble
New Delhi: Dattatreya Hosabale, the general secretary of the BJP's ideological mentor Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, today said the fate of two words in the preamble of the constitution - "Socialist" and "Secular" -- should be decided through debate. "During Emergency, two words Secular and Socialist were added to the Constitution, which were not part of the original Preamble," Mr Hosabale said at an event organised on 50 years of the Emergency. "Later, these words were not removed. Should they remain or not, debate must happen on this. These two words were not in Dr Ambedkar's Constitution. During Emergency, the country had no functioning Parliament, no rights, no judiciary and yet these two words were added." On the occasion, he also took a jibe at the Congress, and without naming him, its senior leader Rahul Gandhi. "The people who did this (imposed Emergency) are roaming around with copies of the Constitution today. They have, to date, not apologised to the people of India for this," he said. "You put more than 1 lakh people in jail, kept more than 250 journalists in jail, violated fundamental rights, and forced 60 lakh Indians to undergo sterilisation... You ended the independence of judiciary. Have all the people who did this apologised to the country? If it was not you but your ancestors, then you have to apologise in their name," he added. The BJP's move to name the 50th anniversary of Emergency -- - imposed by the government of the Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in 1975 -- as the "Samvidhan Hatya Divas (Murder of Constitution Day)", has opened a new front with the Congress. The two parties have been again at loggerheads since yesterday, with leaders from JP Nadda to Union home minister Amit Shah ripping into the Congress. The Congress has responded sharply in face of the concerted BJP attack . "Those who never contributed to the freedom struggle or constitution-making are now claiming to defend it," said party chief Mallikarjun Kharge. "PM Modi is repeatedly invoking a period that the country has moved past. He is making an issue out of something that people have already forgotten," he had added. Apart from BJP-backed programmes in various states, the Union Cabinet adopted a resolution to honour the sacrifices of those who resisted Emergency. The ministers also observed two-minute silence against the excesses committed back then.
