CEL playing a leading role in data centers and green energy: CM Yogi
Ghaziabad, Jun 26(UNI) Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Thursday described Central Electronics Limited (CEL)'s journey as a symbol of India's industrial revival and self-reliance.
He said that CEL is a key part of Prime Minister Modi's vision for a developed India by 2047, and that through organizations like these, new India is moving forward with strength, technology, and confidence.
CM Yogi and Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science & Technology, Dr. Jitendra Singh, laid the foundation stone for the CEL-ESDS Green Data Centre in Sahibabad, Ghaziabad on Thursday. During the event, the CM expressed happiness about the new greenfield data centre being developed by CEL. He said, ' It is a strong step toward achieving PM Modi's goal of net-zero emissions by 2070.'
He also mentioned that Uttar Pradesh will generate 20,000 megawatts of renewable energy by 2027, with CEL playing a key role in this mission.
At the Golden Jubilee celebration of Central Electronics Limited (CEL) in Ghaziabad and the foundation stone-laying ceremony of its new data center, CM Yogi took part in the Puja and also visited the exhibition, where he was given information about the data center and its operations. He also planted a sapling as part of the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' campaign.
During the event, CEL also handed over a cheque worth Rs 21 crore to the Government of India, and an MoU was exchanged between CEL and Multi Infra for a 200 MW solar module project.
Speaking at the event, the CM described CEL's 50-year journey as an inspiring success story, saying that the company has now entered the "Amrit Kaal" and is playing a key role in fulfilling PM Modi's vision of a developed India. He recalled that there was a time when CEL faced uncertain days and was even put on the list for disinvestment.
'However, today CEL has become a profit-making 'Mini Ratna' company and is handing over dividends to the government. This change is an inspiration for Atmanirbhar (Self-Reliant) India,' he added.
The CM praised CEL for its innovations in sectors like railways, defence, renewable energy, and education. He said that CEL's technology and creativity are making the nation stronger. Highlighting its contributions, the Chief Minister noted that CEL plays a key role in areas such as smart classrooms, signaling systems, renewable energy modules, and defence equipment.
He also mentioned that CEL made India's first solar photovoltaic module in 1974 and is now setting up the country's first greenfield data center. Talking about the Defence Manufacturing Corridor, he said that equipment for BrahMos missiles is also being produced with the help of organizations like CEL.
Referring to Operation Sindoor, CM Yogi said that BrahMos and Akash missiles were recently used against Pakistan. 'We can say that the capacity of both these missiles have been 'tested' in Pakistan and 'trusted' worldwide,' he remarked.
The Chief Minister also linked CEL's progress to the changing image of Uttar Pradesh. He said that in the past eight years, the state's economy has grown 2.5 times, lifting 6 crore people out of poverty. Investors are now eager to invest in Uttar Pradesh, which was earlier known as a backward state.
'Today, Uttar Pradesh is becoming the growth engine of the country,' he added. Out of Rs 50 lakh crore worth of investment proposals, Rs 15 lakh crore of investments have already started production after the groundbreaking ceremonies.
Speaking about CEL's journey, CM Yogi said, 'Your childhood was good, then you faced some challenges in your youth, but now you have entered your Amrit Kaal.' This is a period of the next 25 years dedicated to making India self-reliant and developed.
He added that Prime Minister Modi has often stressed the need to connect educational institutions with industry, and Uttar Pradesh has excellent institutes like IITs, IIMs, universities, and central laboratories to help achieve this goal.
Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science and Technology, Dr. Jitendra Singh, said that CEL has its own legacy. The company invented the first solar cell back in 1970, and now, 50 years later, it is about to set up a green data center.
He praised Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, saying, 'Your name is already part of history for the construction of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, and I'm happy that two institutions under my ministry also contributed to it.' He also announced that the country's first quantum unit will soon be established at IIT Noida. In addition, a biotechnology park will be set up near Lucknow, and a two- or three-day startup conclave is planned for August.

According to reports, a Durga Mandir in Dhaka was demolished by the administration today, days after a large mob of Islamists threatened to bring it down. The Khilkhet Sarbajanin Durga Mandir was demolished based on an order issued by the Bangladesh Railway's Dhaka Division Deputy Commissioner and Divisional Estate Officer. The idols in the temple, puja materials and other items in the temple were destroyed in the operation. To another question on trade issues with Bangladesh, the spokesperson said: 'The trade-related amendments announced by India in respect of Bangladesh were based on Bangladesh's own quest for fairness, equal treatment, and reciprocity. We await resolution of the underlying issues pending with the Bangladeshi side for a long time. These issues have been raised by India at several structured meetings earlier, including at the Commerce Secretary level talks.' To a question whether the two countries are renegotiating the Ganga waters treaty, the spokesperson said that India and Bangladesh share 54 rivers, which also includes the Ganga. Abandoned hospitals, cost overruns—Delhi ACB's case against AAP's Saurabh Bhardwaj, Satyendar Jain
The development comes days after the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) paved the way for ACB's case against Bhardwaj and Jain on the recommendation of Delhi L-G Vinai Kumar Saxena on 6 May. The announcement was made in a press statement issued by Joint Commissioner of Police Madhur Verma, who is chief of the Delhi ACB. New Delhi: The Delhi Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) Thursday booked senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders and former Delhi health ministers Saurabh Bhardwaj and Satyendar Jain for alleged irregularities, unexplained delays, and misappropriation of funds in connection with the proposed establishment of 24 hospital projects costing Rs 5,590 crore. Jain, along with former Delhi deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia, was booked in a case of alleged misappropriation of funds exceeding Rs 2,000 crore sanctioned for the construction of classrooms during the term of the previous Arvind Kejriwal-led AAP government. Responding to the allegations, Jain said in a statement issued later in the day, 'There is, as yet, no evidence to suggest that these project sanctions were marred by corruption. Moreover, all these sanctions predate Saurabh Bharadwaj's tenure. How can a Minister be held liable for actions taken two to five years before assuming office? Is this some kind of joke?' 'The FIR would make it abundantly clear that, without any reasonable cause, only two former Ministers have been named—while all Health and PWD officers, who were actually responsible for executing the hospital projects, have been spared,' said Bhardwaj. The latest case stems from a complaint by then leader of the opposition, Vijender Gupta, who alleged rampant corruption in the health department under Bhardwaj last August. He alleged that 24 hospital projects were sanctioned in 2018-19 at an overall cost of Rs 5,590 crore, which were delayed and suffered 'astronomical cost overruns'. Of the 24 hospitals, 11 were greenfield and the remaining 13 brownfield projects. However, the ACB chief said verification of these projects revealed unauthorised and additional construction at two hospitals, in Jwalapuri and Madipur. 'Notably, Madipur hospital project was to be completed by November 2022, but remains abandoned and far from completion,' JCP Verma said. Gupta had further alleged that seven intensive care units (ICUs), with an overall capacity of 6,800 beds were sanctioned for Rs 1,125 crore, which were to be built within six months from September 2021. 'However, even after a lapse of more than three years, they are at a stage of mere 50 percent completion with a cost of Rs 800 crore,' he alleged. In this case, the ACB says it found that the contract for these seven ICUs was awarded to a firm named SAM India Buildwell Pvt Ltd, and that the project experienced a cost escalation of more than 100 percent despite incomplete construction, even years after the February 2022 deadline. Other projects sanctioned but allegedly incomplete include a new block at state-run LNJP Hospital, sanctioned for Rs 465.52 crore. Gupta had alleged that the cost of construction tripled to Rs 1,125 crore over four years. 'Verification also found that the New Block at LNJP Hospital, awarded to M/s Swadeshi Civil Infrastructure Pvt Ltd, saw project costs escalate from Rs 488 crores to Rs 1,135 crores over four years, with the structure still incomplete beyond its January 2023 deadline,' JCP Verma said Thursday. Additionally, Gupta alleged that the Kejriwal-led government planned to establish 94 polyclinics in the national capital at the sanctioned cost of Rs 168.52 crore but only 52 could be built at a cost of Rs 220 crore. 'Many of these polyclinics remain nonfunctional,' JCP Verma said, adding that based on these findings, the Delhi ACB approached the Delhi government's vigilance department to seek prior approval before filing a case against Bhardwaj and Jain. After noting the observations of relevant departments, including health & family welfare and the Public Works Department (PWD), which recommended the probe, the Directorate of Vigilance submitted the file to the L-G for referral to the MHA for sanction. Govt signs agreements for Rs 18k-cr investments in maritime trade infra
Bhubaneswar: Odisha govt on Thursday signed two major concession agreements, promising a combined investment of over Rs 18,000 crore in maritime trade infrastructure which is expected to create 8,450 jobs. Gopalpur Ports Limited committed to a Rs 16,554 crore investment to expand and develop the Adani Group-controlled Gopalpur Port. This will increase the port's cargo handling capacity to 50 million metric tonnes (MMT) — from the current 20MMT — and generate approximately 5,000 jobs, further solidifying Odisha's position as a key player in maritime trade, a govt statement said. JSW Utkal Steel Limited, a subsidiary of Sajjan Jindal-led JSW Group, is likely to invest Rs 2,100 crore for the construction of a 52 million tonne cargo handling jetty at Jatadhara river mouth near Paradip in Jagatsinghpur district. This project is expected to generate 3,450 direct and indirect jobs, significantly enhancing the region's economic landscape, the statement added. The CM expressed confidence that these projects, led by globally renowned companies, will usher in a new era of port-led development in Odisha. Commerce and transport minister Bibhuti Bhushan Jena reiterated the importance of developing ports and jetty in the state's overall growth strategy, aiming to leverage Odisha's extensive coastline for further infrastructural development. The government's vision for 2036 and 2047 includes ensuring adequate port capacity to support coastal shipping operations. Plans are underway to increase Paradip Port's capacity from its current 289 MMTPA to 300 MMTPA, while also expanding non-major port capacity in the state to 200 MMTPA by 2036. To enhance coastal connectivity, the govt intends to develop eight new non-major ports in addition to the existing Dhamra and Gopalpur ports. Furthermore, there are strategic plans to transform Gopalpur and Paradip into green energy hubs, with a focus on developing green hydrogen, ammonia, and integrated port-based industrial ecosystems.
