After a week of unsettled weather, families ready to celebrate Fourth of July at Jersey Shore
"It's so much fun, always sitting on the beach, looking out over at the fireworks, just chillin', so much fun," said Samuel Magliari, who came down the shore with his family.
From playing volleyball in the water to a game of spike ball on the sand, or even a trip to the top of the iconic Lucy the Elephant, for many people, celebrating July Fourth down the shore is a tradition.
"It's so fun and it makes me happy and I love it," Lily Kaplan said.
"We'll probably just come to the beach all day and watch the fireworks at night," Mackenzie Vesotsky said.
"As I got older, I feel like I really enjoy the peacefulness of it, and the people, and this is my beach of choice because it's close enough," said Ron Choice, who drove through the heavier-than-normal traffic on the Atlantic City Expressway Thursday.
Choice has a loaded itinerary and plans to make multiple stops to ring in the Fourth of July.
"Going to meet with my girlfriend in AC, we're staying at the Golden Nugget and we're going to do that and have dinner, then we are going to head out tomorrow to Wildwood and we are going to come back to Margate spend the rest of the weekend here," he said.
Mother Nature is cooperating, which is good news for restaurants and other small businesses. Wednesday may have been gray and rainy down the shore, but there was hardly a cloud in the sky Thursday and the nice weather is expected to continue.
"If you don't think all the businesses down here were counting the seven out of the first 11 warm weekends were rainy, I assure that they were. So this is a huge impact on what they do on a day-to-day basis," Ed Berger, the president of the Margate Business Association, said.
One of the main draws in Margate on July Fourth is of course the fireworks show. They are set to go off around 9 p.m. at Huntington Avenue.

Hot, and possibly stormy, holiday weekend ahead for the Fourth of July, NASCAR Chicago Street Race
With the Fourth of July and the annual NASCAR Chicago Street Race making for a jam-packed few days ahead, Chicagoans can expect a hot — and potentially stormy — holiday weekend. Should weather predictions hold, forecasts called for temperatures hovering in the mid-90s Friday and Saturday, with a 50% chance of thunderstorms by Sunday afternoon, said Kevin Birk, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service. Advertisement 'The main thing that's going to be consistent through the weekend is just that overall hot summer weather here,' Birk said. Sunday is looking to be slightly cooler, with temperatures possibly dipping into the 80s, but Birk said to expect 'still very humid highs.' Before noon Friday, there was a 30-40% chance of showers and thunderstorms, but conditions were expected to dry out later in the day, Birk said. 'So fireworks time (Friday) evening looks dry,' he said. Forecasts also indicated that Saturday would be mostly dry, Birk said. As for Sunday, Birk said there's a 50% chance of scattered storms anytime from noon to 7 p.m., adding 'that could go up as we get closer here.' Advertisement Should thunderstorms hit the city this weekend, it would mark the third rainy NASCAR race weekend in a row. Last year, the race weekend's main event — the Grant Park 165 — faced lengthy delays sparked by intermittent downpours. The year before, racers faced lightning and flash flood warnings. Still, this year's event is expected to draw tens of thousands of attendees. The city is set to host the street race on a 12-turn, 2.2-mile course through Grant Park, down DuSable Lake Shore Drive and up Michigan Avenue. The Xfinity Series' Loop 110, which features mostly younger, up-and-coming NASCAR drivers, will be broadcast on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. on the CW Network and local affiliate WGN-TV. The Grant Park 165 Cup Series race will air Sunday at 1 p.m. on the cable network TNT. The race comes as NASCAR is reportedly in negotiations to hold a street race in San Diego next year, which may be in addition to Chicago, or perhaps will replace the Chicago one. Heat advisory in place for Twin Cities on Fourth of July
The Twin Cities and other parts of Minnesota will be under a heat advisory for the July Fourth holiday as heat index values approach 100. The advisory will go into effect at noon and last through 8 p.m., affecting the metro, western Minnesota and western Wisconsin. Communities up north will be under an extreme heat warning starting at 11 a.m. Potentially strong storms will develop to the north and west late Friday night — after fireworks for most communities — with gusty winds and heavy rain possible. Storms will continue into Saturday, then gradually exit by early evening. It won't be a washout, but keep plans flexible. Sunday will be drier and much cooler, with highs in the upper 70s. The cooler trend holds into early next week, with highs in the upper 70s to low 80s and only small rain chances.
