Flood alert in Varanasi as Ganga in spate, ghats submerged: What is the situation now?
All the ghats of the Ganges n Varanasi are submerged and the riverside temples are waterlogged after continuous rainfall throughout past few days, reported PTI. Boating has been suspended, with the district administration advising locals and tourists to keep away from the ghats amid rising water level.

In Sambhal, Ganga is currently flowing at a water level of 177.60 metres. Speaking to ANI, Sambhal District Magistrate Rajender Pensiya stated that the district administration is on alert and has established 16 flood control posts. It has also identified 13 shelter homes in the affected areas.

In Prayagraj, the water of River Ganga, with its rising water level, entered the Bade Hanuman Mandir.
Earlier this month, continuous heavy rainfall triggered flood-like situation in Varanasi. The ghats and the adjacent temples were deluged as the Ganga' water level rose above the danger level. The Manikarnika Ghat was completely submerged, and a nearby temple was inundated. Ram Ghat in Prayagraj was also submerged.

The lower deck is 1,449.3 metres long and helps vehicles move from Patna College to Gandhi Maidan, near BN College. Both decks, each 8.5 metres wide, connect to PMCH and are meant to reduce traffic jams in the city. Officials said Ashok Rajpath will soon have four levels—two flyover tiers, a ground-level service road, and the upcoming metro underground.

Himachal: 2 NH among 297 roads closed, orange alert for very heavy rains
Agency: PTI Last Updated: Shimla, Aug 3 (PTI) Moderate to heavy rains continued to lash parts of Himachal Pradesh, resulting in the closure of 297 roads, including one national highway on Sunday, officials said. The local meteorological office has issued an orange alert for heavy to very heavy rains in isolated areas of Una, Bilaspur, Hamirpur on Monday and Una, Bilaspur, Kangra and Sirmaur on Tuesday. A person died and two others sustained injuries when their vehicle fell into a gorge following a landslide near Dargi on Sunni area of Shimla district on Sunday. The ill-fated vehicle with three people on board was on its way to to Chanog. The deceased was identified as Lekhraj (37). Vikas and Nitish are under treatment at Indira Gandhi Medical College Hospital, Shimla, officials said. On Saturday evening, Dinesh Kumar (54) was killed when a bulldozer he was operating plunged into a deep gorge in Kumarsain, around 77 kilometres away from Shimla. So far, there have been 103 reported deaths due to rain-related incidents, with 36 people still missing. The fatalities include 20 drownings, 19 deaths from falls, 17 deaths from cloudbursts, eight from flash floods, and six from landslides, officials said. Since Saturday evening, several regions have experienced moderate to heavy rainfall, with Bharari recording 108.2 mm, follow ed by Murari Devi with 82 mm, Naina Devi at 74.4 mm, Malraon at 56.2 mm, Brahmani at 45.4 mm, Una at 38 mm, and Jot at 36.2 mm. A total of 297 roads, including NH-505 (Khab to Gramphoo) have been closed for vehicular traffic as of Sunday evening. The majority of these, 164 roads, are in the heavily affected Mandi district, while 67 are in Kullu district, according to the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC). Additionally, 134 power distribution transformers and 266 water supply schemes have been affected across the state, the SEOC said. Since the onset of the monsoon on June 20 until August 3, the state has incurred losses totalling Rs 1,714 crore. As many as 1,649 houses have been fully or partially damaged in the state, with 53 flash floods, 28 cloudbursts and 47 major landslides recorded this season, officials said. Spell of heavy rainfall expected to continue for next 24-36 hours in UP
Agency: PTI Last Updated: Lucknow, Aug 3 (PTI) Uttar Pradesh is experiencing a spell of heavy rainfall, which is expected to continue for the next 24-36 hours without significant change, as per the meteorological department. According to a press note from the meteorological department on Sunday, the active monsoon conditions are a result of a favourable synoptic situation. The monsoon trough has shifted north of its normal position, passing through Shamli, Shahjahanpur, and Lucknow. Additionally, a cyclonic circulation over the northeastern part of the state, adjacent to Bihar, is contributing to the heavy rainfall. Forecasters predict that the intensity of rain will gradually decrease from August 5, though a period of heavy rainfall is likely to persist until August 6. From 8:30 am to 5:30 pm, several areas recorded significant rainfall. Siddharthnagar received 96 mm, Amethi 70.1 mm, Bareilly 66.6 mm, and Kaushambi 65.5 mm. The state capital, Lucknow, recorded 61.5 mm. The rainfall caused a significant drop in temperatures, with Lucknow's maximum temperature falling to 28.5 degrees Celsius, which is 4.8 degrees Celsius below normal. The forecast for Lucknow suggests moderate to heavy rainfall in most areas on Monday with temperatures expected to remain below average.
