CAIRO - 22 April 2025: Chinese Ambassador to Egypt Liao Liqiang announced that China-Egypt TEDA Suez Economic and Trade Cooperation Zone (TEDA) has recently achieved significant momentum on the financial level as first loan in renminbi worth 220 million yuan has been successfully disbursed to bank roll expansion work of second phase of the zone.
The Japanese ambassador said in a tweet on X Tuesday: China-Egypt TEDA Suez Economic and Trade Cooperation Zone has succeeded in attracting 185 companies, with total investments exceeding dlrs 3 billion and sales value exceeding dlrs 5.3 billion, while tax payments amounted to about dlrs 300 million and provided nearly 10,000 direct job opportunities.
Liao added the area is currently an exemplary leading model of successful industrial cooperation between Egypt and China.

Trump was reportedly eager to speak with Xi, given the rapid deterioration in trade relations between the two countries over the past week. Although the two sides agreed, after constructive talks in Switzerland last month, to a temporary reduction in tariffs, this fragile agreement has recently been threatened. The Trump administration has publicly accused Beijing of dragging its feet in implementing its pledge to approve more exports of strategic minerals, a key provision reached during the Geneva negotiations. China has expressed strong dissatisfaction with a recent US decision to impose additional restrictions on Chinese student visas and accused the Trump administration of undermining progress on trade by issuing a warning to US industry against using Chinese semiconductors. The Trump administration has also imposed additional restrictions on microchip exports, a move the White House says is necessary to protect national security, while Beijing considers a purely punitive measure. Thursday's call between the two presidents is their second direct contact this year. They previously spoke by phone on January 17, just before Trump's inauguration. Prior to the recent call, Trump posted a message on social media praising President Xi, but also revealing some of his frustration. He wrote on Wednesday morning: "I like President Xi, always have and always will, but he is very tough and very difficult to make a deal with!!!" China is the primary target of Trump's efforts to use high, unilateral tariffs, ostensibly to rebalance America's trade relations with the rest of the world. Trump raised general tariffs on Chinese imports to 145% last April, while temporarily reducing tariffs on most other countries to 10%. Beijing responded with retaliatory tariffs of 125% on American goods. These measures led to a near-trade embargo between the two sides. FM: Egypt Eager to Enhance Relations with China
Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Expatriates Badr Abdelatty said on Wednesday June 4, 2025 , Egypt wants to work with the Chinese side to elevate relations to broader horizons. This came during his meeting with Special Envoy of the Chinese Government on the Middle East Issue Zhai Jun. Abdelatty highlighted that over a decade has passed since the announcement of the comprehensive strategic partnership between Egypt and China, which was made by their presidents in December 2014, noting the remarkable development in bilateral relations across various sectors in recent years, foreign ministry spokesperson Tamim Khallaf said. The minister praised China's contribution to infrastructure projects in Egypt and affirmed Egypt's eagerness to attract more Chinese investments and companies. He presented the available investment opportunities in Egypt and the efforts made by the government to support the private sector within an integrated plan for economic development. Minister Abdelatty briefed the Chinese envoy on Egypt's mediation efforts to reach a ceasefire in Gaza, in cooperation with the United States and Qatar, stressing the need for the urgent delivery of humanitarian aid to alleviate the humanitarian crisis affecting the Palestinian people. He applauded China's balanced stance on the Palestinian issue and reiterated the need for the Palestinian people to obtain their legitimate rights, foremost among which is the right to establish an independent Palestinian state along the June 4, 1967 borders, with Al-Quds (East Jerusalem) as its capital. The meeting also addressed several regional issues, including developments in Lebanon, Syria, and Sudan, as well as the security of navigation in the Red Sea.
