WFISD students wins scholarships
WICHITA FALLS (KFDX/KJTL) — Many Wichita Falls Independent School District students celebrated after the WFISD Foundation handed out scholarships.
On Tuesday evening, May 13, students and teachers gathered at the Region 9 Education Center, where 68 scholarships were awarded to students.
Forty-one students went home with some extra money towards their college funds.
A total of $78,450 was awarded in scholarship funds.
WFISD Foundation officials said it's great to have this kind of support for the students.
'We're grateful to have organizations and families supporting our students and investing in their future,' Nikki Davis, Executive Director of WFISD Foundation said.
Among those students was Aniyah Bascombe from Memorial High School, who received the Shatanya Clark 'Larger Than Life' scholarship.
That scholarship was started after Shatanya Clarke passed away during her battle in 2022.

Wichita Falls city council backs grant for Circle Trail project
WICHITA FALLS (KFDX/KJTL) — The city is attempting to complete the Circle Trail by applying for a grant through the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT). On Tuesday, June 3, Wichita Falls city council signed a resolution supporting the city's efforts. It's a step that city officials needed to take to apply for the grant by Friday, June 20. Assistant Public Works Director Tyson Traw said the grant is competitive. If approved, the grant will cover 80% of the construction cost. The city will match 20%. The total cost is about $5.6 million. 'This will include the construction funds for the construction, design and environmental permitting if necessary,' Traw said. 'We intend to incorporate a lot of safety measures, bollards and things like that that we've heard from concerned citizens.' At the last city council meeting, Lake Shore Drive neighbors continued to raise concerns about the trail's location. Traw said the city should know by October whether it has received the grant. From there, it could be another two-and-a-half years before the last of the trail is complete. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. United Regional receives national award from American College of Cardiology
WICHITA FALLS (KFDX/KJTL) — United Regional Health Care System officials have some big news to share as they announce and celebrate a significant accomplishment. During a reception today, United Regional CEO Cory Edmondson announced that the hospital has earned the HEARTcare Center National Distinction of Excellence from the American College of Cardiology. Edmondson said they got this award through the outstanding excellence they provide day in and day out in several departments, including cardiology. Edmondson said staff members there must be board-certified while also providing consistent care for the patients who walk through the doors. 'This would not be possible without our dedicated doctors and staff, especially our cath lab. They're performing at a top-notch and excellent level, especially in the area of technology that we provide. We wouldn't be able to do this if we didn't have the latest and greatest technology, and do the latest and greatest procedures, but our highly trained staff can make that happen,' Edmondson said. Edmondson said that only a few healthcare systems in the nation have ever received this national recognition, and, of course, we here at KFDX want to congratulate the staff at United Regional.
