Jeremy Renner Turned Down ‘Hawkeye' Season 2 Because He Was Offered ‘Half' His Season 1 Salary: ‘Did You Think I'm Only Half the Jeremy Because I Got Ran Over?'
Jeremy Renner is speaking out about why there's no second season of 'Hawkeye' yet.
In a new interview with High Performance, Renner, who plays Clint Barton, says he was offered 'half' of his salary from the first season of the Disney+ series. 'They asked me to do Season 2, and they offered me half the money. I'm like, 'Well, it's going to take me twice the amount of work for half the amount of money, and eight months of my time, essentially, to do it for half the amount,'' he said.

Renner went on to suggest that the proposed lower salary was a result of his near-fatal 2023 snowmobile accident. 'I'm like, 'I'm sorry? Why? Did you think I'm only half the Jeremy because I got ran over? Maybe that's why you want to pay me half of what I made on the first season.''
Renner was hospitalized for blunt chest trauma and orthopedic injuries on Jan. 1, 2023, after his Sno-Cat, a large snow plow that weighs at least 14,330 pounds, ran him over. The actor was trying to help his nephew out of the snow near his home in Lake Tahoe when the Sno-Cat crushed him. His injuries included eight ribs broken in 14 places, a broken right knee and ankle, a broken left leg tibia and ankle, a broken right clavicle and shoulder and more.
'This is not Marvel, mind you. This is like, just Disney, not even really Disney. It's just the penny pinchers, the accountants. I told them to go fly a kite. I mean, just at the at the insult offer. So we didn't see eye to eye on it,' Renner continued, adding that he's not ruling out a return to 'Hawkeye' in the future. 'Sadly, I still love the character. I'd still love to do it, but I I had to defend myself. I didn't ask for any more money, mind you. Just pay me what I made made the first season. So it's all disheartening that that didn't happen, but that's fine. I'm happy to let that go, because my body's probably thanking me, time and time again, that I'm not doing it right now. But we'll see.'
The first season of 'Hawkeye,' which also starred Hailee Steinfeld and Florence Pugh, debuted on Disney+ in late 2021.
Marvel did not immediately respond to Variety's request for comment.

'Doom Patrol,' featuring gay hero Negative Man, remains a surrealist masterpiece. Finally, there's 'Peacemaker,' which showrunner James Gunn and star John Cena reimagined as a bisexual antihero. Watch it: All available on Max. Marvel Cinematic Universe The MCU has definitely been getting queerer in recent years. The underrated movie 'Eternals' showed an immortal hero living a quiet life with his husband and son. Cunning antihero Loki is canonically bisexual and genderfluid as well as the best time-travelling hero this side of 'Doctor Who' in the titular series. Then there's 'Agatha All Along,' which gave us the iconic line 'if you want a straight answer, ask a straight lady.' 'Miraculous' (2015) The French animated series 'Miraculous,' about Parisian teens who use magical jewels to fight crime as costumed heroes, is both a cult hit and a fantastic example of queer representation. From the rainbow-powered character Wishmaker to the unrequited crush of Vesperia on main character Ladybug, the show manages to competently contain a full gamut of real-world queer experiences in an affirming way. Watch it: Streaming on Disney+. 'Code Name: Dynastud' (2018) Not everything needs to be family-friendly and inspirational. In this raunchy comedy directed by Richard Griffin, a radical right-wing government has outlawed homosexuality. Luckily, a farm boy with some unprintable superpowers is off to save the day with jokes and an intolerance for intolerance. This film is pure schlock, but as a combination of revenge fantasy and satire of toxic machismo, it's definitely a fun time. Watch it: Steaming on Tubi. 'Surge of Power: The Stuff of Heroes' (2004) The entire ' Surge of Power ' franchise is a gift to the genre of camp. Real-life corporate attorney Vincent J. Roth plays fictional corporate attorney Gavin Lucas, the alter-ego of openly gay superhero Surge, who battles both crime and homophobia. This was a groundbreaking indie film in 2004, made after the rebirth of the genre but long before the media juggernaut of the MCU. It would be 13 years before 'Power Rangers' would put the first queer hero on the big screen, but Roth kept making 'Surge of Power' sequels and pop culture crossovers with other franchises.

Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver have shared their initial reactions to watching their son Patrick Schwarzenegger strip down on-camera for ' The White Lotus,' revealing starkly different perspectives. 'I couldn't believe (it). I said to myself, 'I'm watching your show, and I'm watching your butt sticking out there.' And all of a sudden, I see the weenie,' the former California governor candidly recalled during a joint appearance with his son on Variety's video series 'Actors on Actors,' released Tuesday, June 3. 'What is going on here? This is crazy.' Patrick's full-frontal nude scene was part of his role as Saxon Ratliff on the HBO show's third season. While his father emphasized his initial shock at the scene, which he watched during an advance screening ahead of its premiere, his mother shared during separate interviews that she was unfazed. "People are like, 'Oh my God, you saw!' (and) I'm like, 'I gave birth to him,'" Shriver said during a Tuesday appearance on 'The Jamie Kern Lima Show.' "I've seen him naked since he was a baby." The former journalist, who was married to Arnold for 25 years, previously told People Magazine that she didn't even notice the nudity when she first watched the episode. The father-son duo, who were featured in Variety's"Actors on Actors" issue, talked about acting and more, including Patrick Schwarzenegger's most recent role in season 3 of "The White Lotus." "Everyone is coming up to me in the gym and saying, 'Your son is fantastic,'" Arnold Schwarzenegger said. "Someone else comes up to me and says, 'I hated your son in the series.'" Before "The White Lotus," Patrick Schwarzenegger told his dad about what it meant to him to carry the famous Schwarzenegger name. He previously opened up to a magazine about how the name could be an "obstacle." " Arnold Schwarzenegger replied and said, "I'm glad you kept the name, because now I can take credit. My son -- the apple doesn't fall far from the tree."
