SOHO, Manhattan (PIX11) – One of the suspects accused of kidnapping and torturing an Italian tourist for his Bitcoin account is expected in court on Wednesday.
John Woeltz, 37, was arrested by police officers on Friday. He, along with 33-year-old William Duplessie, allegedly lured the 28-year-old victim to an eight-bedroom SoHo townhouse back on May 6 to steal his cryptocurrency fortune, according to authorities.

The men are accused of using a gun to beat the victim, shocking him with electric wires, cutting his leg with a saw, urinating on him, forcing him to smoke crack cocaine and putting an AirTag on him to watch his every move, prosecutors said.
The tourist told his attackers he needed his computer to get his crypto account passwords, which is when he managed to escape, according to authorities. Police said the man was found beaten and bloodied and told officers he had been held hostage for more than three weeks.

Visibility in some spots is reduced to less than half a mile. Fog is expected to lift by 9 AM, revealing a mostly sunny sky. Today will be nice, so soak in every minute this Friday. Skies will feature a mix of sun and clouds this afternoon, along with periods of mostly sunny conditions. Temperatures will warm to the mid-70s with a light northwest breeze. The weekend looks just as nice with a trend toward warmer temperatures. Humidity levels remain low, and rain chances are scarce. A slight chance for rain exists west of Highway 65 Saturday night. We get back to quiet and mostly sunny skies on Sunday with temperatures in the 80s. Something else this weekend is the potential for wildfire smoke from Canada to create a hazy sky. Manchester City see €60 million opening bid rejected for primary summer transfer target

Officials at Manchester City have seen their opening bid made to AC Milan for Tijjani Reijnders rejected, it has been widely reported. The 26-year-old central midfielder is widely believed to be Manchester City's primary target for the 'No.8' position in the middle of the park, as part of a wide-ranging refresh of their playing squad before the new season. Advertisement With work also expected to be done in defence and further forward in the central roles, there is an ambition within the club to complete large elements of their business before this summer's FIFA Club World Cup. Speaking during a new interview with the club's official website, chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak said of summer recruitment plans, 'We've clearly identified who exactly are the targets, in what positions, and we have our clear number one, our clear number two option. 'We'll go about our business, it will be very clear, very swift. Our objective is to be ready with the new squad for the Club World Cup,' he added. Advertisement And it appears as though that direction is continuing with an opening proposal made for one of their primary targets in the last 24 hours, as plans step up to get Manchester City back competing at the very highest level of the European game. That is according to the information of market insider Fabrizio Romano, who reveals that Manchester City's opening bid for midfielder Tijjani Reijnders was received by AC Milan in recent hours with the proposal worth around €60 million including add-ons. It is stressed that the Italian giants certainly want more to let the midfielder leave for the Etihad Stadium this summer, and despite the opening proposal being rejected, negotiations are said to be advancing. Additional reporting from Calciomercato's Daniele Longo revealed that City's opening bid was made up of a €55 million transfer fee, plus a further €5 million in potential add-ons. This is a developing story. More to follow.

NYPD detectives, including one on Adams' security detail, allegedly linked to crypto bros torture case, placed on modified duty

Two NYPD detectives — including one who serves on Mayor Eric Adams' security detail — have been placed on modified duty as authorities probe apparent links to the crypto torture case, The Post has learned. Among them is an off-duty detective who is believed to have driven Italian Bitcoin millionaire, Michael Valentino Teofrasto Carturan, from the airport to a ritzy SoHo townhouse on May 6 where he was allegedly held captive and tortured for weeks by a pair of hard-partying crypto bros, sources said. That detective was assigned to protect Hizzoner but had been doing private security on the side, according to the sources. 'We are disturbed by these allegations, and as soon as it came to our attention, the officers were placed on modified duty. The investigation is ongoing.'
