Opera Shares Jump as Forecast Is Music to Investors' Ears. But Is It Too Late to Buy the Stock?
The company also has a nice hidden asset on its balance sheet with OPay.

Shares of Opera (NASDAQ: OPRA) rose after the web browser operator saw a huge jump in revenue and issued upbeat guidance. While the stock is down year to date, its shares are up more than 20% over the past year.
For those unfamiliar with Opera, the company operates a portfolio of web and mobile browsers that are designed to optimize speed and battery life. Its browsers have been particularly popular in emerging markets, although lately it has been more focused on adding higher-valued users from developed markets. On this front, its fastest-growing browser is Opera GX, which is designed to optimize gaming performance.

Opera makes money in two main ways. The first is simply through advertising and its Opera ad platform. It also has a revenue-sharing agreement with Google, where it gets a portion of the ad revenue when people use one of its built-in search bars.
Let's take a closer look at the company's Q1 results to see if the stock's momentum can continue.
For the first quarter, Opera saw its revenue surge 40% to $142.7 million. That was well ahead of its Q1 guidance for revenue of between $130 million to $133 million. Advertising revenue soared 63% to $95.6 million, while search revenue climbed 8% to $46.6 million. The company also recorded $500,000 in technology licensing revenue.
The growth in advertising was led by e-commerce, which the company said offset typical seasonality. Revenue from the vertical more than doubled. Meanwhile, it still sees the U.S. e-commerce industry as having a lot of growth ahead.
It also noted that its advertising revenue is performance-based as opposed to brand advertising, and as such, expects it will be more resilient during any period of economic weakness. With search revenue, meanwhile, the company said it was successfully leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) to more effectively identify user intent, which was allowing it to "optimize the click stream."
Demonstrating the company's focus on higher-valued users, its annualized average revenue per user (ARPU) soared 45% year over year to $1.94. Its number of monthly active users (MAU) fell 4% year over year from 304 million to 293 million. However, Opera GX, its highest monetizing browser, saw its user base grow 14% in the quarter to 34 million MAUs.
The company also noted that its new Opera Air browser, targeting Western users, was downloaded 500,000 times in its first two months. The browser was designed to integrate science-backed mindfulness to reduce digital stress and promote focus.
Also on the innovation front, Opera has turned to agentic AI with its Browser Operator. The company said that while users are still in control, the browser could help with things such as making travel bookings and even ordering flowers to a particular hotel room. The company said in a live demo it was able to book a trip to Lisbon, Portugal; find a Portuguese florist; and fill a shopping cart with the specified flowers, along with all relevant delivery and payment information, all with English prompts. The user then just had to click the final checkout.
On the profitability front, Opera's adjusted EPS rose 35% to $0.27 and adjusted EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization) climbed 29% to $32.3 million. Looking ahead, the company forecast Q2 revenue to rise by around 24% to between $134 million to $138 million. It projected adjusted EBITDA to increase by 23% to a range of $30 million to $32 million.
It also boosted its full year guidance. The company now expects revenue to range from $567 million to $582 million, representing a 20% annual growth at the midpoint. That's up from a prior revenue outlook of between $555 million to $570 million. It's now looking for adjusted EBITDA of between $135 million to $145 million, up from a prior range of $132 million to $138 million.
Opera was optimistic it would be able to navigate the current uncertain macro environment and political tensions. It also thinks any open competition that results from big tech antitrust cases could be a long-term opportunity.
Trading a forward price-to-earnings ratio (P/E) of 14.6 times this year's analyst estimates with 20% projected revenue growth, Opera stock is not expensive.
The company also has $103.5 million in net cash and an investment in OPay valued at $258.3 million on its balance sheet. OPay is a fast-growing fintech company that provides digital financial services in Africa, primarily in Nigeria.
Previously, Opera had to increase the carrying value of its Opay investment due to the rapid expansion of its customer base. Opera expects OPay to grow its revenue at a 35% annual rate between 2023 and 2030. Opera owns more than a 9% stake in OPay, which is a nice asset some investors may not know about.
Given its strong advertising growth, inexpensive valuation, and investment in OPay, Opera looks like a solid stock to own at current levels.

That means a company would need to be worth $7.3 trillion by 2030 to be worth more than the combined value of these two companies right now. There are only a handful of potential companies that could do that, with the chief suspect being Nvidia (NASDAQ: NVDA), currently the world's largest company. I think that a $7.3 trillion market cap is achievable for Nvidia by 2030. Here's how it will achieve it. The AI hyperscalers are increasing their guidance for 2026 expenses Nvidia is thriving in the world of artificial intelligence (AI). Its graphics processing units (GPUs) have become the computing hardware of choice for many AI hyperscalers due to their strong ecosystem and fantastic computing power. GPUs can process multiple calculations in parallel, making them suited for any workload that needs a lot of processing power. Historically, GPUs were used for gaming graphics, engineering simulations, and cryptocurrency mining, but their biggest use case by far is AI. As a bullish sign for Nvidia, the AI hyperscalers aren't slowing down their spending. During its Q2 conference call, Alphabet told investors it is raising its 2025 capital expenditure projection from $75 billion to $85 billion, and also commented that 2026 will see a further increase in capital expenditures. Meta Platforms commented that it will see "significant capital expenditures dollar growth in 2026" for building out its computing capacity to meet demand. Nvidia will be a huge beneficiary from these hyperscalers' increasing demand, but Nvidia doesn't expect it to stop in 2026. A third-party projection cited by Nvidia during its 2025 GTC event stated that global data center capital expenditures in 2024 were around $400 billion. That number is expected to increase to $1 trillion by 2028. That's huge growth, but will it be enough to propel Nvidia past the $7.3 trillion mark by 2030? Nvidia will rapidly grow over the next few years If global data center capital expenditures increase at that rate, it would have a compounded annual growth rate (CAGR) of about 26%. Because Nvidia's business is heavily tied to the data center industry, we'll use that as its base growth rate figure. Over the past 12 months, Nvidia has generated $149 billion in revenue, with a mid-50% profit margin (it dipped a bit during its last quarter due to an inventory write-down it had to take on H20 chips that were meant for China but could no longer be sold at that time due to export restrictions). Should Nvidia achieve that CAGR over the next three and a half years, Nvidia's revenue and profits would be $335 billion and $184 billion, respectively. If we give it a forward price-to-earnings (P/E) multiple of 40 (it's currently 42), that would give Nvidia a market cap of $7.36 trillion by 2028. The original projection was for Nvidia to reach a market cap of $7.3 trillion by 2030, and this projection exceeded that level by 2028. That leaves plenty of room for Nvidia to underperform this guidance and still achieve this lofty goal. Nvidia is expected to remain dominant for some time, and with all the massive data center capital expenditures ongoing, Nvidia's stock will be a must-own for investors. Google Search gets an AI trick plucked straight out of a sci-fi film
For a while now, the tech industry has been shifting into the 'agentic AI' era. Simply put, it's where an AI performs a multi-step task for you, like acting on a request such as 'reserve a table for six at the nearest ramen shop with at least a 4-start rating on Wednesday.' Well, that's essentially what Gemini is going to do within the AI Mode, and a lot more, the next time you head to Google Search. You can even tell that you're on a tight schedule and need a place that can accept a reservation within the next two hours. Sounds like one of those uber-smart virtual assistants in sci-flicks, right? Well, it's rolling out starting today in the US, UK, and India, with plans of global expansion already underway. What's new in Google Search? Earlier this year, Google rolled out a new feature in Search, called AI mode. In a nutshell, it presents the answers to your questions just the same way as an AI chatbot like Gemini or ChatGPT does, instead of showing you a list of blue links on the Search page for visiting websites. Recommended Videos Now, Google's AI Mode will not only give you answers, but it will also take multi-step actions, saving you a visit to different websites, and lots of clicks and taps. Let's say you want to book a table at a restaurant. Just type your requirements, AI mode will jump into action, and take you directly to the reservation page after filling in all the details. 'Searching across multiple reservation platforms and websites, it will find real-time availability for restaurants that meet your specific needs — and then present you with a curated list of restaurants with available reservation slots to choose from,' says Google. How does it work? Remember Project Mariner, which was showcased at the Google I/O conference earlier this year? Well, in case you aren't familiar, it's a hyper advanced version of Gemini that can handle web tasks for you through natural voice conversations. Now, Google is porting over that DNA to AI Mode in Search. It hears your queries, and then taps into the vast data pulled from Search, Maps, and Knowledge Graph to take talk action on your behalf. Think of it as ChatGPT Agent, but with Google Search and Gemini. For now, Google is sticking with restaurant reservations and has partnered with names like 'OpenTable, Resy, Tock, Ticketmaster, StubHub, SeatGeek, Booksy and many more.' Down the road, the company will expand the agentic feature in AI Mode to finding event tickets and making local service appointments. CNBC Daily Open: Jackson Hole takes on new significance amid Trump's pressure on the Fed
Jerome Powell, chair of the U.S. Federal Reserve, will be giving his keynote address at the annual Jackson Hole, Wyoming, gathering of central bankers and economists on Friday stateside. It'll be one of the most important speeches by a central bank official — even more so than Powell's press conferences after the Fed's rate-setting meetings — because Jackson Hole gives Powell an opportunity to lay out the bank's longer-term economic frameworks, such as its inflation targets and how it evaluates employment. For Powell, it's doubly significant, since the keynote address will probably be his last before his term as Fed chair ends in May 2026. Even though U.S. President Donald Trump has threatened to evict him from his seat prior to that date, the Supreme Court earlier this year indicated that Fed officials have special protection against presidential firings. (It seems that being a central banker in the U.S. might be the only way to protect yourself from layoffs and displacement by artificial intelligence today.) That said, the Trump administration doesn't seem to be relenting its pressure on Fed officials. The Department of Justice will investigate Fed Governor Lisa Cook based on a criminal referral by a White House official, according to a letter obtained by CNBC's Sara Eisen on Thursday. In a typical year, Jackson Hole sparks excitement mostly among market watchers and finance nerds (i.e. yours truly). This time, the symposium feels more pivotal, almost like a gathering of people quietly struggling for central bank independence. The U.S. and EU announce tariff details. Automotive exports to the U.S. will face a 15% tariff — after the EU introduces legislation to reduce their industrial duties. Pharmaceuticals will see levies capped at a maximum of 15%. Fed Chair Jerome Powell is set to give a big speech on Friday. At Jackson Hole, a gathering of central bankers to talk economic policy, Powell is expected to discuss the Fed's long-term policy goals — in what will almost certainly be his last keynote there. Google scores a $10-billion cloud deal with Meta. Under the agreement, Google will provide Meta cloud services mainly related to AI over six years, according to two people familiar with the matter. Major U.S. indexes had a red Thursday. The S&P 500 fell 0.4% for its fifth losing session in a row. Europe's regional Stoxx 600 was flat, snapping a three-day winning streak, as investors shrugged off details of the EU-U.S. trade agreement. [PRO] No relief rally for European pharmaceuticals.
