KPC announces convention against PECA law tweak
The decision was made during a consultative meeting convened by the Karachi Press Club (KPC), co-chaired by KPC President Fazil Jamili and Secretary Muhammad Sohail Afzal Khan. The meeting brought together representatives from various sectors, including prominent lawyer Barrister Salahuddin Ahmed, Karachi Bar Association General Secretary Abdul Rahman Korai, All Pakistan Newspaper Society's Shahab Zuberi, Anwar Sajdi of the Council of Pakistan Newspapers Editors, Pakistan Union of Journalists (Dastoor) Secretary General Alauddin Hamdam Khanzada, and Karachi Union of Journalists (Dastoor) President Hamid Rehman, among others.
In his opening remarks, KPC Secretary Sohail Afzal emphasized the diminishing space for democratic debate.

Working on key points regarding PSM: Russian CG
KARACHI: Russian Consul General Andrey Viktorovich Fedorov said that discussions between Pakistan and Russia on Pakistan Steel Mills are under way and both sides are working on key points. He said that Pakistan and Russia are working rapidly to strengthen bilateral relations. He added that Israel is killing innocent children in Gaza and one day Israel will have to answer for this brutality. He expressed these views while speaking to the media during his visit to the Karachi Press Club (KPC) on Monday. On this occasion, Karachi Press Club President Fazil Jamili, Secretary Sohail Afzal Khan, and others welcomed the Russian Consul General. An exhibition was also held featuring photographs of Russian journalists who lost their lives while performing their professional duties. Consul General Fedorov said he was very pleased to visit the Karachi Press Club. 'Journalists play a very important role in the welfare of society. Journalism is a very significant field. Many Russian journalists sacrificed their lives in the pursuit of truth, and Russia can never forget them. Today we pay tribute to journalists who lost their lives while performing their duties.' The Consul General stated that since then, more than 60 people working for Russian news agencies have been killed by the 'Kiev Neo-Nazi junta'. He further said that Russia and Pakistan are working rapidly to strengthen bilateral ties. Russia is cooperating with Pakistan's elected representatives. 'At present, we are providing a large number of Pakistani students with free scholarships in Russia. We are also working in Pakistan to promote the Russian language,' he noted. The Consul General said that Pakistan is an excellent country for filmmaking. In October, a delegation from Russia will visit Pakistan to shoot a documentary that will highlight Pakistan's positive image. Responding to a question, he said that the Taliban in Afghanistan are a reality. He again condemned Israel's atrocities in Gaza, saying Israel is killing innocent children and will one day have to answer for these crimes. Regarding Pakistan Steel Mills, he clarified that no final decision has yet been made. 'This is not an easy matter, so be patient. We are working on important points related to Pakistan Steel Mills. When the final decision is reached, we will inform you. Both countries are continuing efforts in this regard.' Earlier, the Russian Consul General met with President Fazil Jamili, Secretary Sohail Afzal Khan, Treasurer Imran Ayub, other members of the Governing Body, and senior journalists. Journalist Khawar Hussain shot dead in Sanghar
Khawar Hussain, a Karachi-based journalist and reporter for Dawn News channel, was shot dead on Sunday in Sanghar, police said. Hussain had been sitting in his car for hours outside a private hotel on Hyderabad Road in Sanghar city, according to police. His body was later shifted to Civil Hospital. Sanghar police said investigations are under way from all angles and facts will be brought to light soon. Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah took notice of the incident, sought a report from the Inspector General of Police, and directed that a competent officer investigate the case. The Chief Minister expressed deep grief over Hussain's death, prayed for the bereaved family, and directed the administration to extend full cooperation. The Karachi Press Club, where Hussain was an active member, demanded an impartial investigation and said his tragic demise has left the entire journalistic community in mourning. Condemnations from leaders PPP Chairperson Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said Hussain was a dutiful and responsible professional whose sudden death was a shock to the media fraternity. Sindh's senior minister, Sharjeel Inam Memon, called his death an irreparable loss, while Home Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar sought a report from the Sanghar SSP and said Hussain's contributions to journalism were unforgettable. Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori, provincial minister Nasir Shah, Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab, and Shazia Marri also expressed deep sorrow over his death.

Minority Rights March set for 10th
In remembrance of National Minorities Day, a Minority Rights March will be held on Sunday, August 10, from 2pm to 6pm at the YACA Ground. The event was announced on Thursday by minority leaders Pastor Ghazala Shafiq, Advocate Lovok Victor, and Sheema Kermani of Tehrik-e-Niswan, during a press conference at the Karachi Press Club,. The leaders noted that the Government of Pakistan has officially observed August 11 as National Minorities Day since 2009, and clarified that the march is a non-partisan initiative involving minority community members, social leaders, and civil society representatives, with the aim to raise awareness among citizens about their basic rights, and to unite people of different religions. They demanded that equal and quality education for all minorities be ensured in both public and private educational institutions, which they demand should have a minimum 10 per cent quota for religious minorities. Furthermore, the leaders demanded the removal of controversial content from curricula and textbooks in both public and private institutions, stressing the need to end forced conversions. Emphasising that minorities should be provided with access to healthcare, employment, and other essential facilities, the leaders noted that various programs will be held during the march to help minority communities present their rights and demands.
