Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappe skipped Saturday's collective training session and is set to miss the 15-time European champions' Group H game against Pachuca at the Club World Cup, the club said.
Mbappe, who was admitted to a Miami area hospital earlier this week with acute gastroenteritis, had stayed at the team hotel and would not be travelling to Charlotte, North Carolina, for Sunday's match, a Real spokesperson said.
The 26-year-old missed Madrid's opening match of the tournament — a 1-1 draw against Saudi Arabian side Al Hilal in Miami.
Manager Xabi Alonso said the France international was in 'rough shape' and had been unable to train for days.
'Mbappe will continue with specific medical treatment and will gradually return to the team's activity,' the club said in a statement regarding his hospital discharge.
Real Madrid also said that ahead of its second Club World Cup fixture, Mbappe and Carvajal trained at the facilities at the team's hotel.
He was Madrid's top scorer last season, netting 43 goals in 56 appearances in his debut year after joining from Paris Saint-Germain.

FIFA Club World Cup 2025: Inter Milan rallies past Urawa on stoppage-time goal

Valentin Carboni scored in the second minute of second-half stoppage time to complete Inter Milan's rally to a 2-1 victory over Urawa Red Diamonds in Saturday's Group E encounter at the Club World Cup in Seattle. Carboni's strike rescued all three points for Inter (1-0-1, 4 points) 14 minutes after Lautaro Martinez's brilliant, volleyed 78th-minute equaliser from a corner kick. The result sent the Italians above Argentina's River Plate (1-0-0, 3 points), which faces Mexico's CF Monterrey (0-1-0, 1 point) later Saturday in Pasadena. Shusaku Nishikawa scored early for the second goal of the tournament and the first from open play for the Red Diamonds (0-2-0, 0 points), which was overwhelmingly on the back foot from there on. Inter led its Japanese foes 26-5 in total shots and 4-3 in efforts on target, though its first shot on frame didn't come until Martinez levelled the affair with his 24th goal in all competitions this season. Against the run of play, Watanabe put Red Diamonds in front in the 11th minute. READ: FIFA Club World Cup: Dortmund holds off Sundowns to close in on knockouts Takuro Kaneko created the opportunity with a wonderful slaloming run from the right into the penalty area that split two Inter defenders, before dragging a cross back toward the penalty spot. Watanabe met it with a first-time, side-footed shot that deflected off another defender, wrongfooting goalkeeper Yann Sommer on its way into the bottom right corner. Inter finally began to show more menace in the final stages, beginning with Martinez's leveler. Nicolo Barella sent in the outswinging service. With his back to goal, Martinez shielded a defender from the ball, then met it waist high with a volley sent over his back past goalkeeper Shusaku Nishikawa. It was Martinez's second goal of the tournament after he pulled Inter level with CF Monterrey on a set piece goal late in the first half of a 1-1 draw on Tuesday. Then in stoppage time, Carboni was first to the rebound of Petar Sucic's blocked shot from the edge of the penalty area, driving a low and hard finish from 10 yards into the bottom left corner.

Culling Of Man City Needs To Be Done For Club's Own Good, Says Pep Guardiola

Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola announced on Saturday that the club will have to sell players this summer for the benefit of the stars themselves. The Premier League team acquired several new players ahead of the Club World Cup, resulting in a large squad for Guardiola to manage. Midfielder Ilkay Gundogan has recently been linked with a transfer to Turkish side Galatasaray. Guardiola stated he was unaware of this rumour but confirmed that several players would need to be sold following the additions of Tijjani Reijnders, Rayan Cherki, and Rayan Ait-Nouri. 'I would love to keep all the players we have now for the entire season," Guardiola told reporters in Atlanta. 'The problem is they will be unhappy during the season, they will be sad, they will be disappointed. 'I don't want that. I am doing this for them, not for myself. We have to see what happens; it's a long time until the transfer window closes. We need to take it step by step." Guardiola has previously mentioned that he prefers a squad of around 20 senior players, whereas City currently have more than 30. Before reducing the squad size, City aim to win the Club World Cup in the United States, with the new arrivals bringing fresh energy. They defeated Wydad AC in their first match and will face Al Ain on Sunday at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium, where they can secure qualification to the last 16. Guardiola mentioned that Spanish defensive midfielder Rodri would not start the game as he continues his recovery from injury. 'He's improving. He can play 20 minutes, 30 minutes at a time. He wants to help, but we need to protect his knee," said the coach. Guardiola also said he was keen to take City far in the Club World Cup and it was a 'privilege to be here". The coach dismissed some of the complaints about the competition and pointed towards the attitude of the South American clubs as an example to follow. 'I love when I see Botafogo, all the Brazilian teams, Argentinian teams, how they celebrate, how they are together, I love them," said Guardiola. 'I like how all the games are tight, except one or two, and people are surprised, European teams lose. Welcome to the real world, my friends." (with inputs from agencies)

FIFA Club World Cup: Dortmund holds off Sundowns to close in on knockouts

Borussia Dortmund held off a spirited comeback from South African champion Mamelodi Sundowns to secure a 4-3 victory on Saturday and move closer to the Club World Cup knockout stages. Dortmund was behind after 11 minutes at the TQL Stadium but rallied to win its second game in Group F and move top of the standings with four points, one more than Sundowns. Felix Nmecha, Serhou Guirassy, and Jobe Bellingham scored for the Bundesliga club, which also profited from an own goal. Lucas Ribeiro had given Sundowns the lead, while Iqraam Rayners and Lebo Mothiba scored in the second half as the side looked to rally from 4-1 down in a competitive game played in blazing hot conditions with a mid-day kickoff. Ribeiro burst through a static Dortmund defence, picking up the ball on the halfway line and gliding past two opponents to score a shock opener. But the lead lasted only five minutes before a calamitous error from Sundowns goalkeeper Ronwen Williams, who played a short pass to Nmecha, who had an easy tap-in for the equaliser. Dortmund went ahead after a slick set of one-two passes between Julian Brandt and Guirassy, who powered home with his head. Bellingham, in his second appearance for Dortmund, made it 3-1 on the stroke of halftime as Williams parried Brandt's cross straight at him, and he delayed shooting for a split second before wrong-footing the goalkeeper. Rayners struck the woodwork for Sundowns 10 minutes into the second half, but on the hour mark, Daniel Svensson's cross from the left took a wicked deflection off Sundowns' fullback Khuliso Mudau as Dortmund extended its lead. Two minutes later, the South African side pulled one back as Teboho Mokoena's free kick was floated to Rayners, who struck the foot of the post but did not waste the second opportunity off the rebound. Mothiba struck in the 90th minute as Sundowns stole away possession, and the substitute scored from close range, but the side could not find an equaliser.
