The Seahawks' best developmental guard is the most surprising option
The Seattle Seahawks need to develop various guards on the roster if their offensive line is to take the desired step forward in 2025. The left guard spot will be filled by 2025 NFL draft first-round pick Grey Zabel. That's a foregone conclusion, with Zabel expected to establish himself as an above-average starter right away.
The right guard position is more difficult to forecast. The Seahawks appear headed for a battle there between Anthony Bradford and Christian Haynes. It was a lackluster competition last offseason, with neither blocker meeting expectations in 2024. New offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak is introducing his scheme, and that offers both Bradford and Haynes a much-needed fresh start.
It would be surprising if Bradford emerged as the starter after stringing together two disappointing campaigns in 2023 and 2024. There's hope for Haynes, who's entering his sophomore season. Haynes was a poor fit under previous OC Ryan Grubb. The arrival of Kubiak could help lead to second-year growth.
If Haynes and Bradford fail to seize their fresh start, sixth-round rookie Bryce Cabeldue could be the developmental guard to capitalize. Kubiak inherited both Haynes and Bradford. He potentially played a role in the drafting of Cabeldue.
Cabeldue was a four-year starter at right tackle at Kansas. The athletic blocker is making the transition to guard at the NFL level. Cabeldue could potentially throw a wrench into the situation at right guard.
The Seahawks possess a ton of ascending interior offensive linemen. Jalen Sundell, Olu Oluwatimi, and Sataoa Laumea will also play a role inside. Cabeldue is a high-upside athlete who posted unimaginable testing numbers at the Big 12 pro day. Cabeldue may eventually prove to be the Seahawks' best developmental guard.

So, end of third [quarter], going into the fourth over there, they're like, 'Tae, we need you.' I'm like, 'Nah.' To me, I'm thinking, 'I don't think it's a good idea for me,' because I was thinking about, like, my legs. I don't want to go out there and put bad stuff on film. "And it's not like I didn't want to go in the game. But you've got to think, like, leading up to this point, I'd been through so much. ... I'd checked out mentally. I was like, 'Whatever happens, happens.' I was just rolling with the punches at that time. So, I told them I wasn't going in. I was like, 'I understand what you're saying, but I'm not going to go in.' So, I just sat on the bench, and that's when they suspended me." Johnson played four games with the Ravens, recording one reception on five targets for six yards and no touchdowns. Johnson was waived and then signed with the Texans. He played one game for them, catching two passes for 12 yards and no touchdowns. He's now set to start a new era with the Browns, but the memory of that December game is still fresh. Detroit Lions new-look OL still ranked in top 5 by longtime NFL scout Scott DiBenedetto
The Detroit Lions have fielded one of the NFL's best offensive lines for the last few seasons. Yet there are some questions about the unit going forward after losing Pro Bowl center Frank Ragnow to retirement and standout veteran right guard Kevin Zeitler to free agency. The changes keep the Lions from being ranked atop preseason offensive line projections entering 2025, a departure from being either No. 1 or No. 2 on most lists entering the last couple of seasons. However, one recent ranking still sees the Lions line as very worthy of respect and a top-five ranking. Fantasy Points analyst Scott DiBenedetto, who was an NFL scout for 10 years, slots Detroit's line at No. 5 even after the losses. After noting Detroit was No. 1 last year, DiBenedetto breaks it down thusly, A disappointing finish to the season took away some of the glory this unit deserved. With some significant changes in the interior, things will likely be different for Detroit's offensive line this season, but this is still one of the league's strongest units. The tackle combination of Penei Sewell and Taylor Decker is second in his rankings, behind the Eagles. Detroit's coaching, led by OL coach and run game coordinator Hank Fraley, and the combination of vets and promising youngsters--notably projected starting left guard Christian Mahogany--keep the Lions very high in the rankings even with the roster attrition.
