Warner Bros Discovery ‘fumbling through disruption' as cable TV struggles
Just three years ago, media chief David Zaslav pulled off the deal of his life: combining his much smaller television company Discovery with HBO-owner Warner Bros in a $US43 billion merger that he described as a 'rendezvous with destiny'.
On Monday (Tuesday AEST), Zaslav, in effect, unwound that deal by splitting Warner Bros Discovery into two companies facing very different futures.

Michelle Monaghan has been "craving" a return to her White Lotus hairstyle. The 49-year-old actress - who played TV actress Jaclyn Lemon in the third season of HBO's anthology series - loving going blonde for the show and matching her co-stars Carrie Coon (Laurie Duffy) and Leslie Bibb (Kate Bohr), although she had to go back to brunette after filming due to other commitments. However, she told PEOPLE magazine: "I'm craving that change again and that transformation. I just wanted to be lighter and brighter for this summer. "I'm really excited to shed the brunette once again and get to play around with being blonde." Michelle doesn't necessarily want to match Jacyln's look, and she's keen to find a balance between that and her usual style. She added: "I don't think we'll be as blonde as Jaclyn, but I think we'll be somewhere in between." She'll be getting some help from Goldwell colourist Kirby Lago, who thinks a "buttery, warm" vibe is best. Kirby told the outlet: "I'm creating a really soft hazel base and then really popping it with some buttery warm blonde tones. It'll be really nice on her skin tone." She explained that she's using a range of Goldwell products to help, including the "really luxurious" SilkLift range, and both the Bond Pro and Bond Pro II. She added: "That's the thing with blondes now, hair needs to look glossy and healthy. Gone are the days of really over-processed blondes that are a matte porous texture. "It's really important that the hairstylists are taking the steps to nourish and look after the hair as it's lifting. "Now all of a sudden it's, 'Wow, I can go this blonde and it can feel soft and touchable and shiny and I don't need to put [extensions] in. That's a win-win for everybody." Meanwhile, Michelle was surprise by the way the trio's blonde looks caught on with The White Lotus fans. She said: "[Show creator] Mike [White] was like, 'I really want all of you to be a big blonde blob.' "Which is why he wanted me to go blonde. We had no idea that the blonde, [Leslie's] bob, all of the things would take hold in the way that they did."

Nosferatu director Robert Eggers 'working in A Christmas Carol' with Willem Dafoe in mind
Robert Eggers is reportedly working on a retelling of A Christmas Carol. The Nosferatu filmmaker is said to be turning his attention to a new adaptation of Charles Dickens' iconic festive ghost story, which he is developing with Warner Bros. According to Deadline, Eggers will write and direct the movie, and he has longtime collaborator Willem Dafoe in mind to play Ebenezer Scrooge. Negotiations are not yet underway with cast, but the filmmaker is writing the movie with Dafoe in mind. Eggers will also serve as producer, with Chris and Elenor Columbus attached to produce via Maiden Voyage. A Christmas Carol follows old miser Scrooge on Christmas Eve, as he's visited by his late business partner Jacob Marley, and the spirits of Christmas Past, Present and Yet To Come. There have been countless adaptations of the book over the years, with Alastair Sim's 1951 turn as Scrooge regarded as one of the best. In 1970, Albert Finney played the title role in Scrooge, with Alec Guinness playing Marley, while 1992's The Muppet Christmas Carol saw Michael Caine take on the lead. Disney has had a number of adaptations, including 1983's Mickey's Christmas Carol featurette, and 2009's performance capture film from Robert Zemeckis, which starred Jim Carrey as Scrooge and the three spirits. Meanwhile, Eggers' previous works have covered New England in the 1630s and 1890s, with The Witch and The Lighthouse respectively, the Viking era with The Northman and 1830s Transylvania with Nosferatu. Earlier this year, he admitted he can't bear the idea of having to film modern inventions such as cars and mobile phones. He told Rotten Tomatoes: 'The idea of having to photograph a car makes me ill. 'And the idea of photographing a cellphone is just death. And to make a contemporary story you have to photograph a cellphone — it's just how life is — so no.' The filmmaker admitted he is unlikely to stray beyond World War II - which took place between 1939 and 1945 - for a future project. Asked if there's a specific time period "ceiling" he would travel to, he said: 'I don't know. I might go potentially to 1950 but before World War II is more inviting for my imagination.' Robert recently teased he may be working on a sequel to 1986 fantasy cult classic Labyrinth. Asked about the project rumours by he said: 'The thing is, I always have a ton of things in development because you need to survive this industry, and you don't know what is going to hit next. "But I definitely want the next film I make to be an original movie.' Deadline has since reported the director is indeed set to direct a new Labyrinth film for TriStar Pictures, which the outlet claims will be a sequel instead of a remake of Jim Henson's original movie.

More cast announced for Harry Potter TV series
HBO has added nine new names to its cast for the up-coming Harry Potter TV series, due to begin production in the UK in a matter of weeks for an on-air date sometime in 2026. The casting announcement follows news that Dominic McLaughlin, Arabella Stanton and Alastair Stout have been scouted to play the trio of young wizards, Harry, Hermione and Ron. Joining the young stars and previously announced names — which include John Lithgow (Albus Dumbledore), Janet McTeer (Minerva McGonagall), Paapa Essiedu (Severus Snape), Nick Frost (Rubeus Hagrid), Luke Thallon (Quirinus Quirrell) and Paul Whitehouse (Argus Filch) — are both new and established names. Stepping in as Molly Weasley is The IT Crowd's Katherine Parkinson, with Lovesick and Emma star Johnny Flynn playing Lucius Malfory — young newcomer Lox Pratt will play his son, Draco. Joining as Hogwarts students are Leo Earley as Seamus Finnigan, Alessia Leoni as Parvati Patil, and Sienna Moosah as Lavender Brown. Bel Powley will play Petunia Dursley, with Daniel Rigby as Vernon Dursley, and the pivotal role of Cornelius Fudge will be played by Bertie Carvel.
